Refusing to back down in the face of criticism, March for Marriage, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco has rejected calls for him to withdraw from the March of Marriage in …

God Bless him!

And I hope it serves as an example to all the Bishops.

God bless San Francisco Archbishop!! We need more clergy to teach the truth!👍

Exactly! I just can not believe that Pelosi.
Anyone know if Pelosi has publicly commented? I wonder what she’s going to say about the Archbishop’s reply?

:hmmm:

Anyway, as I said before GOD BLESS THE ARCHBISHOP! :extrahappy:

Wisdom and courage…two of the most important gifts for a bishop to have…and AB Cordileone exemplifies them both. May he be protected and blessed by the prayers of faithful Catholics.

Amid all the clapping and high-fiving, we should also remember why folks have publicly asked Archbishop Cordileone not to attend the NOM rally:
NOM has a long and well-documented history of publishing material that connects homosexuality with pedophilia and incest and falsely suggests that gays and lesbians are trying to “inculcate children.” Likewise, the Family Research Council, which is co-sponsoring the event, has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center because of their vitriolic rhetoric; recently, a spokesperson for FRC blamed the growing acceptance of marriage for same sex couples for the Isla Vista mass shootings.

There may be many things wrong with the arguments given by those asking the archbishop not to speak – but the above universally should be seen as ignorant and in the realm of paranoia. When an organization ultimately supports the Church’s position but champions it through assertions like these, it may be wise to step away from it.

Sorry - I don’t buy your words of caution. That’s an old tactic of the gay lobby and the left to stifle debate: label opposition as a “hate group.” How does one prove they don’t “hate”? It’s an unfair smear of an organization that is trying to defend traditional marriage. As others have pointed out, there are numerous other organizations who are co-sponsors - it’s unfair to defame the entire event because of the dubious belief that one of the sponsors is “paranoid.” Wouldn’t gay parents seek to inculcate their children in the values of the gay agenda? Just like traditional parents might inculcate their children into believing in traditional values? I don’t see the controversey there. In any case, this story is about the resolute steadfastness of an archbishop in the face of pressure from pelosi and the gay left agenda. Sorry to see any catholic be sympathetic to the gay lobby and it’s smears.

I would suggest that the real reason they don’t want the Archbishop to attend is that they oppose the idea of traditional marriage only and to get the Archbishop to boycott the rally would be tantamount to getting the Church to agree with their position. I personally think that all the fuss about the FRC is just a smoke screen.

The Archbishop’s letter was very well done and should have ended the whole “FRC is a hate group” discussion, at least with regards to this rally. But it clearly hasn’t and won’t, because the FRC isn’t the real issue anyway, in my opinion.

Peace

Tim

Agreed. I wouldn’t attend the rally.

The comments from event supporters in the letter in the link are not the sort of thing that will change hearts and minds toward the Catholic position (comparison to drug use and incest; gays want to put us in jail; gays “recruit” young people; comparison to dog marriage). In fact they could make the situation worse. The minute a “traditional marriage” supporter brings up the dog marriage argument they get labeled as an idiot.

If you want to support the Catholic position, how about instead an event with a Catholic theme? Maybe an event to celebrate Catholic couples, Catholic parents, Catholic families? A “pro-marriage” rally like this is not going to do a lot for public opinion.

I eagerly look forward to reading what he says at the rally. If he feels some people in attendance are misguided and chooses to address the issues, what better way than as a formal speaker? I think the Church needs to get her representatives at more faith-based rallies to get her own message out. We need to drown out those messages that are more negative (if that is the case). The politicians are politicizing his attendance, which is wrong. Don’t let the politicians narrow your focus to what they want to concentrate on (his attendance or not). Wait and see how he handles it. Trust that he will represent the Church and her views.

So legalized same-sex marriage and God’s wrath against it are responsible for a mass shooting?

What’s wrong with marrying a dog? I’m being serious. My wife told me that she knew a woman who had sex with her dog.

A dog can not give consent, either to marriage or to sex. That is why bestiality is a criminal offense. It is considered animal abuse.

I don’t know why the “dog marriage” argument is so popular, but it isn’t because the argument is sound. Using that argument undermines our cause by making us look uninformed. It pretty much torpedoes any chance we will be taken seriously.

First off, gracepoole - you might actually get the story right. Then have the discussion. Who on the Family Research Council actually said the shooting in California were caused by God’s wrath against gay “marriage” ? Lay out the facts, and let’s discuss. Quit with the innuendo and talking points by the Southern Poverty Law Center and get the real facts.

Take it down a notch, Ishii. It’s a friendly discussion. And here – a quick web search turned up an audio clip of FRC’s Ken Blackwell:

And then there’s James Dobson, who linked gay marriage with Newtown and God’s judgement:

So where did NOW or Ken Blackwell claim that the shooting was God’s wrath against gay marriage? (that was implied in your previous post). And what does James Dobson have to do with the marriage rally which is the topic of this thread? Like I said, stick to the facts, gracepoole and lose the distortions.

Initially, I assumed that the FRC was claiming that gay marriage caused God’s wrath, which in turned caused mass shootings – I couldn’t imagine another explanation for the link being made. But for Blackwell, it turns out the claim is just another brand of ignorance: gay marriage = complete breakdown of morality throughout society = mass shootings. I really hope an explanation of the invalidity of this claim is unnecessary. I also hope it’s unnecessary to explain why this kind of claim is as baseless as the “God’s wrath” judgement.

Of course, by this time, Dobson had already made his “God’s judgement” comment. They’ve really covered their bases… Finally, Dobson founded the FRC. The point being made in conjunction with this thread is that associating with the FRC does not speak to the Catholic Church’s position on homosexuality.

There aren’t “distortions” here, Ishii. Just someone working really, really hard to justify the archbishop’s participation with a group that spreads ignorance and intentional falsehoods.

But again, if you can demonstrate that gay marriage leads to mass shootings, I’m all ears!

Taking from the bolded above. I would argue that so-called SSM is most certainly a symptom of complete breakdown of morality throughout society.

Peace, Mark
