Nicely stated.Iām an usher at my Church and I see the same people a least once a week at Mass and I couldnāt tell you what kind of shoes they wear. I make sure that my dress shoes are shined and I know to wear my black New Balance walking shoes if the service will be a long oneā¦as does our Priest. IMHO the only one who pays any attention to what shoes are worn to Mass is the person wearing them.
Carlos, they are very nice sandals and you should be proud wearing them to Massā¦with or without sock, black or white. He is more interested in having you there, honoring Him then what you have on your feet. Anyone judging what shoes someone wears to Mass is attending for the wrong reason. The only feet that Iām sure of each Sunday are those of Jesus on the cross and they are bare. Iām going to go out on a limb and bet that, even though they are handsome, few will notice.
Guys are generally not at all perceptive when it comes to unimportant, foppish things like fashion. A man sees a shirt, a pair of pants, a pair of shoes. He might register the colors but rarely the brand or the cut or speculate on where they were purchased and if they were on sale somewhere.I canāt comment on womenās styles, but for men, YES! Just. get. shoes.
Except, obviously, the part about socks being okay.Nicely stated.
The only fashion sense about which the men here seem to be preoccupied is whether or not socks should be worn with sandals, and if so, what color.Guys are generally not at all perceptive when it comes to unimportant, foppish things like fashion. ROFLOL. Theyāre all under 3 years old, and itās not popcorn. Itās those nasty cheerios.Sandals are okay; itās those who bring popcorn and who donāt share that bother me no end.![]()
Now some of the young teens I work with have a great eye for name brands of all of the above. They have boxes of expensive shoes. I sometimes will mention Imelda to them. THey have no idea.Guys are generally not at all perceptive when it comes to unimportant, foppish things like fashion. A man sees a shirt, a pair of pants, a pair of shoes. Oops, I guess my name is misleading. Or people have more rigid ideas about gender and occupation than I expected. Anyway, Iām a woman, hence my obsession with the assault on my eyes when I see socks worn with sandals. The only fashion sense about which the men here seem to be preoccupied is whether or not socks should be worn with sandals, and if so, what color.![]()
Hey! I resemble that remark.Guys are generally not at all perceptive when it comes to unimportant, foppish things like fashion. A man sees a shirt, a pair of pants, a pair of shoes. He might register the colors but rarely the brand or the cut or speculate on where they were purchased and if they were on sale somewhere.

I prefer the environment we had when I worked for a particular Unisys division back in the late 1980s. When I went to an internal interview (I was transferring from a more āformalā division) the manager was wearing shorts and, if I remember correctly, flip-flops.I have heard of business wear that insist women wear heals. I hope we never go there for church
I guess we can excuse their footwear since they are religious, but as for those lazy, apathetic, sandals-wearing laypeople, thereās no excuse.Franciscans, Carmelites and Dominicans are not lazy!! Yet, they all wear sandals to church.
Exactly.I guess we can excuse their footwear since they are religious, but as for those lazy, apathetic, sandals-wearing laypeople, thereās no excuse.![]()
Any of us that donāt look like clowns at Mass have wiveās to tell us that navy blue socks donāt go with black dress shoes and you canāt wear brown shoes with a black suit. At least I think she said that onceā¦we also have selective hearing. BUT if someone walks buy wearing camo, weād be able to tell you if the pattern is Realtree or Mossy Oak.Guys are generally not at all perceptive when it comes to unimportant, foppish things like fashion. A man sees a shirt, a pair of pants, a pair of shoes. He might register the colors but rarely the brand or the cut or speculate on where they were purchased and if they were on sale somewhere.
There are colorsā¦and different brands?? Too much to digest, glad my wife keeps track of that for meGuys are generally not at all perceptive when it comes to unimportant, foppish things like fashion. ROFLOL. Double standard!!!I guess we can excuse their footwear since they are religious, but as for those lazy, apathetic, sandals-wearing laypeople, thereās no excuse.![]()
apologies ,Sandals are okay; itās those who bring popcorn and who donāt share that bother me no end.![]()
I just got a pair of āFranciscanā sandals from Italy and I was wondering if it would be appropriate to wear them at Mass? Itās not like Iād wear them just at Mass, but I kind of want to wear them everywhere and Iām at the church pretty often so Iām just wondering if itās okay.
You can see what they look like at this link to the page I bought them from If it helps to know the design:
I would not dare show up as an altar server in anything less than my button-down, collared white shirt, black dress pants with belt, and black dress shoes. Father has been known to turn away would-be servers who do not meet the dress code. Likewise, he has had some stern talks with the choir director about members wearing proper clothing. We live in an area where it gets extremely hot, and men and women alike must be reminded each summer of the importance of decorum and modesty in dress. A section in the bulletin is dedicated to this purpose during the hot months.
Interesting. At the church I am attending, ( with a wide range of incomes- mostly quite affluent) almost all of the men are in scandals, jeans or cargo shorts. A dressed up man is in a polo shirt! Women are in jeans, and slacksā¦I am totally out of place in a skirt. I guess I will have to go buy some pants for church!
2 blocks away, all of the Mormons are quite dressy⦠but Jesus isnāt over thereā¦
But maybe we can still learn something from them.2 blocks away, all of the Mormons are quite dressy⦠but Jesus isnāt over thereā¦
