Extremely politically active first lady, Successful Lawyer, Senator, Only woman to be a presidential primary candidate in a leading position, Secretary of State, Active management of Clinton Foundation…

I’m not a fan, but there is no point in pretending she doesn’t have accomplishments. Certainly they were made easier to achieve due to her husband, but most of the worlds accomplished CEO’s and politicians have some sort of family/financial ties that helped get them where they are.
First lady-because of bill
Lawyer-So what?
Secretary of State-absolute disaster
Clinton foundation-because of Bill and is a slush fund for the Clinton’s
Leading in the primary-not because of anything she has done but because she stuck with Bill. Seriously of not for Bill do you think a Arkansas Lawyer could have moved to New York and been elected Senator within a year of the move???

She has no accomplishments

A Vatican spokesman did say it wasn’t an endorsement, but it sure looks like it. I think many people are going to interpret it as such.
It is what it is. Trump has been criticized by the Pope, and Bernie embraced. Very easy to see.

Bernie likes Pope Francis, and Pope Francis likes Bernie and his values and wants him to speak on building a “moral economy.” He’s a good choice.
I doubt Pope Francis even knows Sanders is speaking at the event but feel free to correct me if there is some information out there that says Pope Francis personally invited him.

He met with Kim Davis also-does that count as an endorsement of her campaign for being re-elected as County Clerk
Didn’t the vatican spokesman have to come out and walk back the meeting with Kim Davis? I don’t remember the details but the vatican did come back and tried to tone down the meeting.

I don’t know, but it doesn’t surprise me at all if the Pope were to publicly support the democratic side in the election.

He did. He said the meet-and-greet was not to be construed as support for Davis:

"After days of controversy over news that Pope Francis met with Kentucky county clerk and same-sex marriage opponent Kim Davis during the pontiff’s U.S. visit, the Vatican has announced that the meeting ‘should not be considered a form of support of her position.’

“Pope Francis met with several dozen persons who had been invited by the [Vatican embassy] to greet him as he prepared to leave Washington for New York City,” read the statement, as provided to ThinkProgress by the Vatican’s English language media attaché. “Such brief greetings occur on all papal visits and are due to the Pope’s characteristic kindness and availability. The only real audience granted by the Pope at the [Vatican embassy] was with one of his former students and his family.”

I don’t think the Holy Father invited him. There will be a conference, he’s a speaker. Maybe Trump can request to go as well?

From CNN
It does not signify any support of the campaign," Sorondo explained. “We want to establish a dialogue between North America and South America so we thought to invite a (U.S.) politician. The President of Bolivia will also be there. Perhaps the others (candidates) would have been interested but they did not request to come.”
Asked if Sanders had requested an invitation, he said, “He has expressed an interest many times in the Pope’s encyclical and it’s clear that he has an interest in studying it. It might have that effect, (of looking like they approve of campaign) but we are not looking to support the campaign.”
Sorondo added that he did not know if Sanders would receive an audience with the pope.

Do you think the Vatican is lying? I don’t think they would do that.

I hope not. It might be time to get out of Dodge before too long, and I’m semi-joking. There’s a part of me that feels that’s the coward’s route, though.

There are suggestions that Pope Francis was blindsided by the meeting with Mrs. Davis.

Those suggestions are correct, Crossbones.

He fired the nuncio who invited her; the Vatican called her invitation an “ambush” of Pope Francis. From the article:

“It is clear now that the Pope hated being ambushed into meeting with the American face of evangelical bigotry, Kim Davis.”

It sure seems like Pope Francis invited him:

"The Vermont senator was invited out of the blue Friday by Pope Francis to speak at an April 15 church conference on social, economic and environmental issues.

"Sanders described himself as a “big, big fan of the pope,” and has invoked Pope Francis during his increasingly contentious campaign against front-runner Hillary Clinton. Pope Francis in return described Sanders as a “world leader.”

Since when does Pope Francis personally invite people to speak at Vatican conferences? If he did then he did. I’m not convinced that is reported correctly. Bernie Sanders himself says he was invited by the Vatican, he didn’t say Pope Francis personally invited him.

The pope probably didn’t phone him personally, though he may have. Pope Francis has a habit of doing things for himself instead of delegating. But clearly he knows Sanders was invited and clearly he likes him. He did call him a “world leader.”

I’m not sure you realize, that the source you posted refers to itself as “real liberal politics” They are just assuming that the Davis invite caused the firing of the nuncio.

Vigano has reached retirement age.

Why would it matter? The idea that the Pope meeting with someone constitutes endorsement of them is ridiculous

True, but it turns out Pope Francis might not even be in Rome when Bernie Sanders is there to speak:

"The meeting will take place on April 15. No mention is made of Sanders meeting Pope Francis, though the pontiff may be out of town; he is scheduled to pay a visit to refugees on the Greek island of Lesbos at that time. Also worth noting: Sanders’ wife is Catholic. - See more at: aleteia.org/blogs/deacon-greg-kandra/bernie-sanders-to-visit-vatican-next-week/#sthash.JyS13ED6.dpuf "

He recently met Leonardo DiCaprio too.

And Mark Wahlberg. Would that mean he likes the movie “Ted”?

It’s a conference where many different speakers will speak. 🤷
