I personally don’t think that Jesus was anti-rich people. I can’t remember him ever turning rich people away.
Rich people such as Joseph of Arimathea were among his disciples.

I personally don’t see Jesus as a socialist advocating for socialist class warfare politics.

Well, it is not as if Sanders practices what he preaches in that regard anyway. The man that denigrates loopholes for the rich as fraud, has shown himself very adept at the tax loophole “fraud” game.

I also don’t think Jesus was “anti-rich people.” But he did have some fairly clear directives for them. And they didn’t involve rich people hoarding their wealth.

And it begs the question of the morality of voting for trump as well. Would voting for trump, who supports torture and summary execution of the families of “suspected” terrorists not be material cooperation with evil?
I just hope and pray that Cruz or Kasich can win the GOP nomination. I’m horrified by the thought of a “ClinTrump” November.
I don’t know. But, by Bishop Vasas’ statement, you would clearly be a supporter of torture and summary execution of families.
I don’t think I ever heard of Bishop Vasas before I read this thread, but I don’t believe a vote for a candidate who supports X should be called “a vote for X”.

I don’t believe most of those who are very rich hoard their wealth. One can find online some of the many donations by those who have wealth. Other donations are not posted, so I think it unfair to make a blanket accusation.

Capitalism is not about hoarding wealth either. It is about investing wealth.

I don’t think there is much we can say about whether Jesus would approve or not approve of democrat or republican economic policies. He was relatively silent on the topic.

I think one can invest and still be a hoarder. I can take all my wealth and put it all in spiders and that by itself is not a bad thing, since it provides money to the capital markets. On the other hand, if I use the income from the spiders for nothing but selfish purposes, there is nothing noble or morally desirable about that.

Or killing their children
What does that have to do with His statements about wealth?

Understand that I’m pro-life, Bob, but every discussion needn’t come back to abortion. Christ really did speak about other topics.

Precisely. And let’s be clear: the church doesn’t support unfettered capitalism for a reason.

Trickle-down economics has done little but add to the growing bulge of the lower class. Sadly, many with wealth don’t invest in endeavors that benefit those at the bottom – they permit poverty to escalate while hoarding.

It wouldn’t be me who would make an accusation – one need only read the gospels. If those who are wealthy are genuinely giving their wealth to the poor, no problem. I think you’ll find plenty, however, who have multiple homes, cars, and other luxuries that are totally needless.

Did he say if you did this it was OK to kill your children?
Assuming you’re referring to abortion as the Catholic Church views it, here’s what the Pope says.

“We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods. This is not possible. I have not spoken much about these things, and I was reprimanded for that. But when we speak about these issues, we have to talk about them in a context. The teaching of the church, for that matter, is clear and I am a son of the church, but it is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time."

“We have to find a new balance; otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel.”

Pope Francis

Yet I find it interesting that after a full 3 yrs into his papacy, abortion seemingly still remains the single “go to” issue to which all roads lead to on CAF.

When people imply Jesus would support Sanders because he attacks the rich the Truth must be pointed out We

I don’t think what the poster said was a blanket accusation, just a comment that Jesus clearly did condemn the rich man who hoarded his wealth and he also condemned the rich man who ignored the plight of Lazarus. I think it is pretty clear that Jesus condemned rich people who were only concerned about themselves.

Whether rich people as a group are concerned about the poor is an interesting question. Clearly some of them are generous. One can question how much of that comes from a spirit of Christian giving and how much of it is a trade of money for your name on a building. When I talk to development people they tell me there is a lot of playing to the rich person’s ego. Also, some of the giving of the rich don’t really help the poor, but more likely other high income people. I once taught at a university with an endowment of over a billion dollars. It was generous for people to give those billions for sure, but those billions mainly help other upper class people, not the poor. They also allowed the university to pay faculty generously, which I appreciated, but wasn’t really helping the poor either.

👍

You, and Pope Francis, are right, Sy. There are many issues. I would say the parents of the Sandy Hook children consider gun control more important than abortion.

Agree 100%.

Why would anyone believe anything Trump says at this point? He’s the very definition of capriciousness. He isn’t going to stop abortion. I’d even wager that he won’t do anything to hinder it.

I will take that bet gladly!

I agree completely. I think, at heart, Trump is probably pro-choice, but finds it more expedient to be partially pro-life as a “new” Republican.

I still don’t think he will be the nominee. I think he will lose Indiana to Cruz in a close race, and come up slightly short on the delegate count. He sure won’t win on the second vote. Just my opinion, though. I left my crystal ball at the hairdresser’s! 😛 Darn!

I would love to see Ted Cruz destroy Bernie’s socialist views in a debate.

One would hope so. There is no need for God to be all that concerned with money matters.
