Pope Francis is going to Lesbos the day after his meeting with Bernie Sanders:

“Pope Francis will make a lightning trip to the Greek island of Lesbos on April 16, the Vatican said on Thursday, a visit aimed at supporting refugees and drawing attention to the front line of Europe’s migrant crisis.”

I studied in Rome and worked in Vatican City for a while, and I traveled to the Greek Islands and to Cyprus, which is very close to Syria. It’s easy to get there and back in one day.
Yes, and some news sources call it an informal day trip.

And of course we know the conscience must be formed via the teaching of the Church .
and then some:
Pope Francis says conscience, not dogma, must guide Catholics in family life

VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis said Friday that Catholics should look to their own consciences more than Vatican rules to negotiate the complexities of sex, marriage and family life, demanding the church shift its emphasis from doctrine to mercy in confronting some of the thorniest issues facing the faithful.

Conscience trumps dogma? Sounds like we don’t need to be catholic to be saved. Sounds like the gate to heaven isn’t narrow after all.

Somehow my and Estesbob’s comments are becoming switched.
I saw that. I deleted one of my posts that looked like you said something you did not post. The quote, unquote formatting is messed up in those posts.

The Church has always taught we should be guided by our conscience but that it must be formed by the teachings of the Church. Francis said nothing new-no doctrines were changed-a call for mercy is not a license to sin.

The Church has taught for a long time that we don’t have to be Catholic to be saved.
But if we are catholic and then abandon the faith, it’d be a different situation than those who have never understood the truth of the faith. Not knowing the faith is different from knowing it but rejecting it.

If we are to no longer adhere to rules, what’s the point of being a good catholic and try to do the right thing? I;m confused.

I’m sure he didn’t mean abandon rules altogether. More I can’t say. I can’t speak for him. He just said not to allow ourselves to be constrained too much by rules.

I believe the text of Amoris Laetitia is online now.
