Clinton’s polling lead in California has shrunk from 63 points which it was at the outset in Feb 2015 to 6 points in the latest poll. And California is one of those states where nonpartisan voters can vote in the Democratic primary (and they’ve skewed toward Sanders in most other states). Bernie may just win California! And at the very least California might be more than our typical rubber stamp for the already de-facto nominee.

I don’t know why this would surprise anyone. Why wouldn’t he be a fan? Sanders is a big fan of Pope Francis too. And he has made the many moral issues Pope Francis speaks about (beyond of course just the one or two most spoken about here on CAF) main staples of his campaign. Connecting the dots of morality to issues such as economic injustice, income inequality, social justice causes, caring for the sick, the prisoner. You know those same things Jesus spoke so eloquently about. The Pope merely echos Jesus on these issues. Along with other issues the Pope has spoken about such as climate change and the death penalty. All those many issues facing the world beyond abortion and marriage. Which to his credit, the many other issues it seems to me this Pope has at least tried to get the faithful to discuss more. I’m not sure how successful or not he has been on that front. But a Jewish fellow is discussing them. 👍

Maybe the Pope understands, as Bernie has said himself many times, that people in good faith and in goodwill, can disagree on abortion and marriage but that there are other grave issues out there in the world with moral consequences that need to be addressed.

Of course, the Pope didn’t invite him and they won’t be meeting anyway, but facts are tricky things.
 
I wonder if that conference will recommend taxing people as high as 90% to pay for those who want free stuff?:rolleyes:

Yeah, I’ve read articles saying two different things about this visit. Oh well, maybe another time for Bernie and the Pope!
 
I’m relieved to hear that it isn’t as it first sounded. It’s far more in keeping with Pope Francis’ remark about Trump when he suggested he didn’t want to send a political message, but speak to principles. I grow more disgusted with the media every day.
