See, where you see something a cynical and sarcastic, I am in reality asking for the sake of being challenging. Previously, I asked, “Are these some of the ‘problem’ areas of the Bible for you - where Jesus condemns certain views and behaviors?” This is not a question of entrapment. I am genuinely trying to find from what perspective you are coming from, and challenging you to think this through. I’m sorry that you consider this annoying.
I am a lunatic 15 year old, I cannot understand the Catholic church, and find myself defending from attacks from all sides, I am also drugged up to my eye balls on St Johns Wart - just so you know - everything is an attack unless it is wrapped with a pretty ribbon. 😛

estesbob - keep in mind, many do not really know what being christian entails; most have a truncated view of what it is to be Christ-like. They have a distorted view assuming that it is ONLY about love and forgiveness, apparently forgetting the part about justice, uprightness, holiness, etc.

In Christ,
Irenaeus

There is a group like that my Church. We call them the “care bears”. . To this group the only sin is pointing out sin.

drugged up to your eyeballs… that explains it. 😛 Now don’t get mad. Just in case you didn’t get the mood and spirit in which I sent this - I was only joking.

In Christ, yes really,

I’m SO glad I’ve forgotten that part. Makes me easier to get along with at parties and social gatherings.

And this is what I don’t get. How can one admonish the sinner if nobody is ever allowed to point out sin? Now of course, for the sake of clarification of others who may be reading this, it needs to be said what we mean by ‘sinner.’ Of course we are all sinners, for if we say that we are without sin, then we make Him a liar and the truth is not in us. But scripture also makes a distinction between those who live a life of righteousness, not as if they are not sinners too, but that they live with an attitude of repentance - they have a contrite heart. This is to be distinguished from ‘sinners’ who live a life of deliberate and willful and unrepentant sin. And this is what the Church means by admonish the sinner. Our bishop once preached that the problem he sees is that we have lost the sense of sin; people rationalize and refuse to see the sinfulness of sin; (actually, I think he was paraphrasing something from Pope John Paul II, but I think that’s acceptable). He’s exactly right, and this is what is challenging because when you admonish someone, they don’t even claim to know that they are doing anything wrong. At least when the prophet Nathan confronted King David for his sin, David acknowledged his sin and repented.

Irenaeus

I am not saying to beat people over the head, which is what I think you are implying. But even Jesus when he was at a certain Simon’s house for supper reprimanded Simon for what he was saying about the woman with the alabaster jar. Not only the that, it would seem a little embarrasing since Simon was the host of this social gathering, and yet Jesus said that the woman treated him better than Simon did.

Jesus didn’t always do things because it made it easier for others to get along with Him.

You see, they don’t believe in sin. To them, morality is relative (“different strokes for different folks”) and consequently sin ceases to exist. Because of this, the entire Catholic faith (as well as Jewish and Muslim) is undermined. How can the Jews repent if there’s nothing to repent of? How can the Muslims attain righteousness (they’re basically Pelagians - work your way to Heaven) if you don’t know the difference between right and wrong? Most importantly, what did Jesus die for if sin is subject to opinion or historical period or culture? This is why they resort to preaching the social (Communist) gospel.

It’s nice to see an orthodox Catholic over there. With all the rest of these guys, I was starting to worry. 😦
No need to worry, the Catholic Church is small but perfectly formed over here 🙂 Don’t confuse a difference in emphasis with a difference in belief.
