I didn’t know that. Is that only federal?
all judges

think of it this way… in the United States a lawyer cannot call himself an attorney unless he’s passed the bar and is licensed to practice.

to be a judge, one must be an attorney.

In regards to a law degree, it is theoretically possible to pass the bar and become an attorney without going to law school. But the chances of being selected to become a judge without is very slim. However, I guess it would be possible for a judge who is elected to become one without a law degree (assuming he/she has passed the bar).

Do all federal judges have a law degree? Have they historically?
Let me add just a little. At one time in this country, most lawyers never went to law school and, therefore, did not have law degrees. They “read the law”, usually under the tutelage of a practicing lawyer. Most of it was learning a British work called “Blackstone’s Commentaries” which, I understand, was a lengthy explanation of the various aspects of law. Since most of our law came from Britain at the time, that was deemed sufficient. Abe Lincoln, as I recall, never went to law school, but did pass a bar exam after “reading the law” with some lawyer in Illinois.

Nevertheless, some did go to law school and get degrees.

I don’t know if there is any federal law requiring that judges have “law degrees”, but I am sure they have to be admitted to the bar somewhere in order to qualify. To my knowledge, though, it’s not possible anymore to take the bar exam and be admitted after only having “read the law”.

Interesting question.

Conservative women and minorities are attacked frequently despite claims of “tolerance, diversity and women’s rights”.

Just ask Michelle Malkin, Melissa Joan-Hart, Ariana Rowlands or Stacey Dash to name a few besides Palin.

As far as her being ambassador, I’ll maybe comment once there’s more official word on that.

I’m just happy that we have Europeans on here to keep us Americans in check. 😃

Apparently this is not really the case though in reality it is a requirement, it would seem legally it is not.
Either way, it probably makes palin out of the running, though the 9th circuit would be a hilarious place to put her.
Ok next dream, Ted Cruz is the next Supreme Court nominee, after Ginsburg…
Now that actually might happen.

Sir she reduced herself as a joke. In my opinion she is very attractive but that is about all I can say. I am surprised she didn’t show up on “Duck Dynasty”
So a successful career woman who raised five children and is married to union worker is a joke? :ehh:

Isn’t that the epitome of feminism?

Huh. Trump’s victory gets more clear by the hour. 👍

Well, of course.

Some years back, Canada was playing the US in hockey at the Olympics. Someone rented out a billboard, and put up a sign that said “Loser keeps Bieber.” I thought that was pretty funny.
I thought the ambassador was drake.
He is doing a fine job eh.

I’m concerned about Trump replacing a liberal justice. I can just see a flurry of excuses about that.

Isn’t trump president?
Isn’t al Franken a senator?
Didn’t Reagan make a movie with a monkey?
Didn’t the wwe hold a governorship?

But palin is s joke?
Hmmm

I’m not sure “balance of the court” is a thought to trump. Though after Ginsburg, making the court 6/3… that’s a R V W overturn.
7/2 even makes me a little uneasy, and I’m to the right of most.

Well, I think it’s good to have 2 robust parties that debate. 👍 Unfortunately, one of them is virulently anti-Catholic, and the other is going to be drug in that direction if corruption, scandal are the norm and Catholics don’t stop the excuses and stand for the values of our Church.

So that feeling is natural. Let’s face it: we’ve had both parties with a monopoly on government in the past 10 years and they both royally screwed it up, in no small part thanks to the electoral ignorance of the average American voter.

If Hilary was in charge, and I wish she was, it would have been business as usual and we wouldn’t be here having this discussion. I don’t think for one second she is a great person but compared to the circus now. Heck I would take dorky W back seeing as he would just say stupid things that wouldn’t cause international incidents.
The left have turned this into a circus!! The left is ready to attack on anything Trump says or does. Whining, complaining, mocking - :crying::crying::crying:

Isn’t trump president?
He is. He is the President of the United States, elected in a free and fair election. You’d probably call me a “leftist,” or "liberal, or “progressive,” or whatever, but that’s what I think. He is in fact my president.
Isn’t al Franken a senator?
He is. Elected (twice) by the people of the State of Minnesota. Since we were talking about schools and degrees, above, it might be worth mentioning that he has an undergraduate degree from Harvard.
Didn’t Reagan make a movie with a monkey?
He did. He made a few good movies, too (*Dark Victory *comes to mind).
Didn’t the wwe hold a governorship?
You mean Jesse Ventura? Yes (also elected by the people of Minnesota). Not a typical conservative. Fiscally conservative, socially liberal, a supporter of gay rights.
But palin is s joke?
Unfortunately, yes. The Republican Party very quickly came to realize that they’d made a huge mistake in giving her the VP spot on the ticket with Senator McCain. I think many conservatives would agree with that. She did not have the intellectual horsepower of any of the people you mention, even though she had more of a political background than any of them when they entered politics (except for Reagan, of course, who’d been a union president before becoming Governor of California).

Let’s keep in mind that this is just a rumor, and almost certainly won’t become reality. So nobody will be attacking President Trump because of this appointment.

Every faction in politics has its embarrassing figures, and Palin was it for the Republican Party. I’m sure a significant number of Republicans would agree with me.

The “left” isn’t turning this into a circus. At least not without a lot of help from the White House.

Hillary definitely erred naming Tim Kaine to be her VP.
Sarah Palin should have been at the top of the ticket and McCain as her VP. At least she would have run to win!

I like palin. It’s a shame she has been reduced to a joke. I think she is ahead of her time. Too bad. Though if trump can be prez. I guess there may be hope…
She has been loyal and supportive of trump in a time when others were not. It’s not surprising if she were rewarded for that. That is how politics works.
I would have liked to see perhaps sec of ed. Or even health and human services. I’d take a federal appointment for a judgeship though…
Considering her family’s not-so-sterling reputation vis a vis premarital activity, I’m not quite sure HHS would be the best fit.

Quite possibly. Although, in the end, I don’t think her choice of VP candidate would have made the difference.

Well, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on that one. As I said, plenty of Republicans think putting her on the ticket was a mistake.

McCain was the biggest mistake.
