A Leftist, and to a smaller extent their sister, the liberal, think government has the responsibility to shape and mold (control) the human being into utopian happiness
Is that what I think?
Thus Lenin, Mao, and Castro, all heros of the godless Far Left, increasingly THE VOTING BASE OF YOUR PARTY unfortunately.
Haven’t met too many Maoists or Leninists at the local Democratic Party meetings hereabouts, but maybe they’re at the meetings in your neck of the woods. A lot of Republican farmers here in the Arkansas Delta are anxious to sell more rice to Castro, you know. If we can trade with China and Vietnam, there shouldn’t be any trouble doing business with Cuba, they think.

What’s surprising is anyone on the secular Left mentioning Satan at all.
Not really. The secular left uses God, religion and spirtuality when it suits them.

So true. And right-wingers also use God, religion, and spirituality when it suits them. LOL!

Haven’t been on a college campus in a while, eh??

That government officals know better than the average citizen as to what is good for him?? In that either/or proposition, I venture you would lean toward saying “yes, they do.”

And when doesn’t God, religion and spirituality suit them?

If Satan can quote Scripture to his purposes, so surely can the right-wingers and the left-wingers, too - when it suits them.

So you have no examples to back up your assertion, correct?

An example of Satan, the left-wing, and the right-wing using God, religion, and spirituality to their own purposes? Not that I can quote off hand, but it is a logical assumption that all three can and do so.

Or are you saying that Satan does not do so (though Scripture say that he does), that the left-wing does not do so (though it is an accusation made against them on this thread), or that the right-wing does not do so (vide Pat Robertson and others of the “Christian” Right)?

LOL!!! I didn’t think so. Btw, I only asked about your assertion regarding the right-wing.

LOL!!! Don’t go trying to put words into my mouth. You made an assertion and I asked for an example to back it up. You admit you cannot do so. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Could not do so off-hand, but here’s an example of Satan quoting Scripture to his own purpose: Matthew 4:6.

I’ll have to watch the 700 Club or such to get an example of the Christian Right quoting Scripture to their own purpose.

You’ve got me about the left-wing. I don’t recall where they’ve ever quoted Scripture to their own purposes, but I’m sure that someone somewhere at some time or other has done so.

So the 700 Club represents the Chrisitian Right? Interesting. As someone who’s in the process of converting to Catholicism and who’s voted for numerous conservative candidates these last few election cycles, I don’t know that the 700 Club spoke for them…or me, for that matter. I am aware of the long-used stereotype regarding them.

Tis’ funny you keep bringing up Satan when I never asked you a single question regarding him.

I believe that observation of them is fairly accurate, though they may have changed recently. I don’t watch the program now so perhaps they aren’t what they were some years ago.

Just being thorough by covering all bases related to using Scripture at all to one’s own purposes.

But the distinction is that it always suits them so they always use it. To the left it only sometimes suits them. That’s a big difference.

In your opinion, perhaps, but my point is that both find that it suits them when they want.

Except you can’t back your point up with any examples of the right-wing doing so. Too funny, indeed.

So, absent my specific example of their doing so, are you asserting that the right-wing never invokes God, religion, or spirituality when it suits them?

Even other posters on this thread agree with my contention that the right-wing does so.

Nope. I’m saying clearly you made an assertion you can’t validate with an example.
Even other posters on this thread agree with my contention that the right-wing does so.
And the relevance of that in regard to my asking you to validate your assertion with some factual reality is???

Hey, these must be those “false prophets” that will arise and “decieve many”, as Jesus said.

it’s there that I began to debate fundies via E-mail.

The popular perception of Nazi and Fascist is that of right-wingism.
Unfortunately, you are right. this misperception is usually perpetuated by leftists who resort to insults instead of intellectual arguments ( I don’t put you in this category).

It was at one time the popular perception that blacks were inferior and should be slaves–a completely false perception, no matter how popular. Fact is, there is almost nothing in the fascist or nazi beliefs that a right winger would support. Most of it, aside from government programs, would not be supported by american left wingers either.

Whether applied to conservatives or liberals, the terms are inaccurate. I only point out that leftists agree more frequently with platforms of both than do conservatives simply because leftists tend to misuse the terms more.

Blessings.

In your opinion, perhaps, but my point is that the right always wants God and the left only want him when it’s convenient.
