I am not so sure about this subject. I have a family history of heart disease and hypertension and have had a stroke myself.

So I would rather not take chances. I actually prefer olive oil (EVOO) over butter and hate eggs yuck!

Lent is becoming my favorite time of year often eat baked fish. And in this country fish is not fried in lard or suet. And I eat it at times. But no chips fried in lard or suet.

I have found that over the years greasy food kind of makes me nauseous. But it is actually trans-fats that make you sick, not sat fats.

This week it is good for you. The study coming out next week will say its bad for you again!
You just made me think of THIS short scene from the 1973 movie “Sleeper”.

youtube.com/watch?v=1yCeFmn_e2c

Set-up: Two doctors from the future discuss their newly “awakened” patient – a cryogenically frozen former health food store owner (Woody Allen, seen in the distance as the doctors discuss him).

imdb.com/title/tt0070707/quotes
Dr. Melik: This morning for breakfast he requested something called “wheat germ, organic honey and tiger’s milk.”
Dr. Aragon: [chuckling] Oh, yes. Those are the charmed substances that some years ago were thought to contain life-preserving properties.
Dr. Melik: You mean there was no deep fat? No steak or cream pies or… hot fudge?
Dr. Aragon: Those were thought to be unhealthy… precisely the opposite of what we now know to be true.
Dr. Melik: Incredible.

another gem:
Miles Monroe: Where am I anyhow, I mean, what happened to everybody, where are all my friends?
Dr. Aragon: You must understand that everyone you knew in the past has been dead nearly two hundred years.
Miles Monroe: But they all ate organic rice!

So then what was the point of your rant on obesity and carbs in this thread where the subject is heart disease?
I wasn’t ranting. It was tangential info and some people agreed with it. Others learned. I guess one or two got mad. There is no rule that all of our posts must conform 100% to the subject of the thread.

Diets are so complicated!

What bothers me is the genetically modified stuff. They say it’s safe, but the studies have not been done to back up those claims. Besides that, there are moral questions about that.

It’s so difficult to avoid GMO food, though because it’s not labeled in the US. High fructose corn syrup comes from corn that has been genetically modified, so I limit my intake of GMO food by never buying anything with high fructose corn syrup.
GMO foods are also be linked with the decrease in variety among plants, like rice, corn and wheat. I think labels should be required. One of the best things I feel people can do, even with a mere 4 sq feet of land, is plant ANTIQUE seed varieties of fruits and veggies. Even a single apple, cherry, plumb or peach tree that is from antique varieties would be helpful toward better food choices and toward alleviating a famine. And I truly believe we will have one directly related to the over dependence on corporate farms and GMO foods.

I am just curious as to how conclusive this study is. I mean, is this the definitive answer or is it a speculative answer with more studies needed?

No its not conclusive. It says that heart disease hasn’t decreased with the advent of low fat diets. Thats because low fat diets also cause heart disease. People really don’t know how to eat in this and in other developed countries. If a food item is low fat, that means it removed the fat and added other things to it. Those other things tend to be unhealthy chemicals and other processed items which are no better for you than the actual fat. So if you have a choice between butter and margarine, go with butter every single time. Its the lesser evil. However, I would recommend that you remove butter altogether from your diet and use olive oil.

Again this all goes back to evolution. Our bodies were developed over thousands of years on this planet and it is made to receive a certain kind of fuel. There was no coke or butter or massive juice drinks hundreds of thousands of years ago. If you want to eat healthy eat what your body was made to eat. It was made to drink water. It was made to eat organic living things like plants, vegetables, nuts, and yes sometimes meat. Fruits also but keep in mind, when a caveman wanted orange juice he had an orange. He didn’t drink 16 ounces of orange juice. When he was fortunate maybe he was able to eat meat every now and then because it was hard to get.

Butter is not natural. Do you ever wonder how they are able to keep butter in that stick shape? They have to add chemicals to it. Eat what your body was made to eat and you should be ok.

I think you may have butter confused with margarine. Organic butter is churned from cow’s milk, and has always been a solid at room temperature way before chemical stabilizers were ever invented.

You are so correct. All one has to do is take some REAL Whip Cream, pour it in a jar, add a little salt (instead of sugar), close the lid and shake vigorously. That is how to make some butter at home and have fun with the kids doing so. Shake until the cream stiffens and then refrigerate. No added chemicals required!😛

And yet again the research community is proven WRONG. When are we going to learn that earthly ‘science’ is a scam.

I never knew it was that easy. I’ll try that.

Can we really say this? Let’s say a Eurasian horse tribe, ten thousand years ago, following its herds, stored fresh milk in skins and slung those skins over their saddles. In very short order, they would have butter. It wouldn’t be in sticks, but it sure would be butter.

  • Guidelines urging people to avoid fat to stave off heart disease ‘are wrong’
  • There is no evidence of a link between saturated fat and heart disease
  • Healthy polyunsaturated fats also do not reduce heart disease risk
  • A dairy fat ‘significantly reduces’ heart disease risk
Thoughts?

I for one have never believed saturated fat is bad, I use lard for frying and baking, I use butter for baking too and for sandwiches and I love suet dumplings and puddings. Also beef fat makes great chips (French fries) 😃 Fat on steaks? chicken skin? I eat it all.
**The British Heart Foundation said the findings did not change the advice that eating too much fat is harmful for the heart. **
Prof Jeremy Pearson, the charity’s associate medical director, said: "This research is not saying that you can eat as much fat as you like.

"But, sadly, this analysis suggests there isn't enough evidence to say that a diet rich in polyunsaturated fats but low in saturated fats reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.

"Alongside taking any necessary medication, the best way to stay heart healthy is to stop smoking, stay active, and ensure our whole diet is healthy - and this means considering not only the fats in our diet but also our intake of salt, sugar and fruit and vegetables."

As someone who has owned dairy animals and milked them and made butter I can assure it does not require additional chemicals and yes it stays solid. I’m not sure where you get this idea.

“Too much fat is bad for you”

“Too much fat is bad for you” and yet, I’ve read that native Eskimos when following their native diet which is mostly fat were far healthier than their modern-day descendants who follow a Western diet with a lot less fat and consequently suffer high rates of heart disease and diabetes, the so-called “civilized” diseases which were unknown there before contact with and colonization by the West.

Lots of fat isn’t bad for you if you burn around as many calories as you take in such as via exercise or your body burning fat to stay warm.

I think even if you don’t spend all your time exercising and burning calories a high-fat diet might not be bad for you, at least partly because eating fatty foods satiates your appetite so you eat less.

I lost significant weight without exercise by ignoring fat content other than limiting it to meat fat, olive oil, coconut oil, and butter. I ate regular cuts of beef, pork, and chicken as well as bacon and sausage. There was no concentration on lean meat. In fact I find it too dry. Along with this I ate plenty of vegetables.

What I did give up for the most part was grains, milk, processed foods, and added sugar. I still enjoyed fruits. I recall as a kid that I did not like fruit as compared to pop, baked treats, etc. Now without all the added sugar in my diet, fruits taste deliciously sweet.

I had the same experience.

I’m with you Deus. I just finished reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution pub 2002. Getting rid of the sugar and refined carbs is the way to go. There are many studies which support this.

I have been eating low-fat for years and I exercise regularly, yet I keep gaining weight and my blood pressure and cholesterol are through the roof.

Pharma is BIG business in the US. There is a drug for everything. Here is a link suggesting MORE people need to go on cholesterol reducing drugs:

Clearly the low-fat guidelines are not working. And Americans are more obese than ever. The rates of diabetes and its accompanying risks of heart attack, stroke, and blindness are increasing as well.

Read this book too:
splashurl.com/oyfeb3o Top Screwups Doctors Make and How to Avoid Them
• Fatal drug reactions (more than 100,000 each year in hospitals)
• Fatal drug reactions (nearly 200,000 outside hospitals each year)
• Misdiagnoses leading to death (over 100,000 each year)
• Deaths from health care-acquired infections in hospitals (100,000 each year)
• Deaths from infectious diarrhea in nursing homes (16,500 each year)
• Deaths from unnecessary surgery (12,000 each year)
I don’t discount there are many people who are at special risk for heart disease and stroke.

I can’t wait! I just started this on 3/17. Have finally lost some weight instead of gaining.
