It’s pretty well known he was murdered.

God rest his soul

So Turkey had audio and video recordings from inside the Saudi consulate in Turkey?

At the moment they are working out where his fit bit or Apple Watch connected externally. It likely recorded his murder

According to the rest of the world, including Turkey, he was horrifically murdered and disembered

That is what I heard also. He was a permanent resident of the United States.
It sounds like they want to send a message to other journalists.
The video footage of private jets landing delivering the group of Saudi assasins is chilling.

You would think the Saudis would not be happy about that or would have the technology to discover hidden bugging equipment.

According to the news reports, Saudi Arabia says that nothing happened to him and that he left the consulate by a rear door.
Wasn’t that the same place where they had, like, six or seven security cameras covering the back areas that all mysteriously weren’t working that day? 😉

What is said is that Kashoggi had an “apple watch” which recorded events that fed into the cell phone he left with his fiance. See article:

Turkish officials have Apple Watch audio of writer’s alleged slaying at Saudi Consulate: report

By Jeffrey Rubin | Fox News

Turkish officials have an audio recording of the alleged killing of writer and activist Jamal Khashoggi from the Apple Watch he wore when he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul over a week ago, a Turkish newspaper reported Saturday.

The assertion by the pro-government Sabah newspaper, through which Turkish security officials have leaked information on the Khashoggi case, is reportedly ratcheting up the pressure on Saudi Arabia to explain what happened to the missing man.
So, that is their story.

I’ve commented on this story, all I can think of is if one is going to do that, did he maybe tell his tormenters, “Hey, you guys are being recorded”. Just a thought.

Hideous incident, Saudi Arabia denies it. We don’t have full confirmation yet. Lots of sources on the web to read about it more for those interested.

Saudi delegation arrives in Ankara for talks on Khashoggi

Is there a chance they might fess up??

BTW, though, Kashoggi is a citizen of Saudi Arabia, I read some talk that that is actually a Turkish name.

I actually tuned in and watched some of al Jazeera’s coverage of this story. It was rather good and informative.

Al Jazeera is out of Qatar; right now, they have had very bad relations with Saudi Arabia and more or less, the other Gulf states, so they will sock it to the Kingdom (of Saudi Arabia). Al Jazeera probably isn’t all that kind to Americans so to speak but everyone can watch and decide for themselves. It seems freer than watching the news from some other sources and countries.

I saw a report where the Saudis claim that it was Khashoggi’s fiancee together with Al Jazeera and Qatar that conspired to have Khashoggi disappear to make Saudi Arabia look bad. So at this point the Saudis don’t seem to be willing to admit to what happened. Turkey has its own problems with dissident journalists so I am not sure if Turkey will publicize the evidence they have against the Saudis.

The one issue that has been raised is that Turkey may be unwilling to admit the full extent of their ability to spy on the Saudi embassy (and by extension how they spy on other diplomats). And certainly there is the longstanding tensions between Turkey and Saudi Arabia, which the White House is clearly cognizant of.

It was Yasin Aktay — a former MP for Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development party (AKP) — whom Khashoggi told his fiancée to call if he did not emerge from the consulate. The AKP is, in effect, the Turkish branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. His most trusted friend, then, was an adviser to President Erdogan, who is fast becoming known as the most vicious persecutor of journalists on earth. Khashoggi never meaningfully criticised Erdogan.
It’s easier for the media to depict it as an extreme act of anti-journalism, rather than recognizing it as an internal Islamic problem of the same type that’s been going on for centuries. The Muslim Brotherhood is in opposition to the Wahabbis. Both believe in a goal of an Islamic theocracy, but the Muslim Brotherhood wants to gain it through democracy, and the Wahabbis believe democracy is a Western invention and have no desire for it. The Wahabbis are the ones who support the House of Saud. The House of Saud has been imprisoning/oppressing members of the Muslim Brotherhood for the last several years as a threat to the royal family and the status quo. Bin Salman straddles both worlds, in rejecting the Wahabbism that supports his dynasty, but also in perceiving the Muslim Brotherhood-- of which Kashoggi was a prominent and vocal proponent-- as a threat to his own vision.

Saudi Arabia is saying “coordinated attack” <— by powers hostile to them, say, some press, Qatar and the like.

The recording is said to be via the apple watch to a cell phone and also an i-cloud".

Other articles are coming out and disputing that this could be done.

Unfortunately, I think it looks like the Saudis did it.

Governments, some governments that is, do commit assassinations, usually, some intelligence agency. Find someone on the street or something and kill them. Obviously this is wrong. But a killing at an embassy, consul etc. is a brazen act. Gaddaffi also did something like this, some invited visitors came to see them and he had them killed. Somehow, this is some sort of red line that should not be crossed. Saudi intelligence at the least per stories has abducted persons before.

Brazen is a good word to describe this horrendous act if in fact it is true.

Purges happen in that part of the world throughout history. People who are inconvenient, or who threaten the stability of a certain individual’s political future, are eliminated ruthlessly.

It happened with the Ottomans all the time. It’s not surprising to see it happen with the House of Saud-- last November’s events were very tame in comparison to how they could have gone.

I agree with that but, I don’t want to speak ill of any countries here, we know who they are. I will say, there are States that carry out assassinations, but they do it covertly. They hunt people down in the street in the dark or poison them or bomb their car. None of this of course, is acceptable but I do think, if the Saudis did this, they should have done it clandestinely. If they did this, they should indeed, be shamed and face full consequences. They bomb Yemen with airstrikes, it’s in the news again today, they might have hit civilian targets .
