I think the strangest thing about this is how does a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and a supporter of it’s anti-Western and anti-modernity view got a job reporting for the Washington Post? The guy was basically “The Handmaiden’s Tale” in a keffiyeh.
Is there a campaign to vilify Kashoggi? I do think so. I’ve seen some of these articles.

Under Reagan, the USA did support the Mujahadin fighting the Soviet Union. I guess, bin Laden fought for the Mujahadin.

There probably is. Kahoggi certainly was part of a campaign to vilify MBS, but what seems to get left out is that his campaign was from what would be considered the Bin Laden wing of Islam, not the progressive liberal wing. This makes the Washington Post’s decision to give him a byline strange, at least.

That does not seem substantiated.

Also, al Qaeda as with bin Laden do not like the Muslim Brotherhood. It’s hard to be both at once.

Again, I think some articles have tried to create some correlations. That benefits the Saudi Royals.

Let’s see some substantiation of such assertions.

Spectator and even Rush Limabugh have talked about this:

Some Saudi Royals were flown out of the country immediately after 911. If one wants to look for connections or even connections, there are always plenty around.

Kashoggi seemed to be given residency in the US if not citizenship. If he was dangerous, one would think he would not have been given such.

I’m curious as to what’s made this particular case so visible in the media

It happened in a Consul office, diplomats often have their diplomatic immunity, it’s a little deeper than he is just a journalist in my humble opinion.

Tons and tons of info have been written up on this story for simple answers.

Some of it is that he is a journalist but why aren’t journalists here, writing more about journalists killed in Mexico then? That’s right South of the US.

We are also curious as to connections that might exist with bin Salman and so on, so-called friends of the US.

But despite these assurances, allegations against the Saudis are mounting, with a lurid account published Wednesday by pro-government Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak of Khashoggi’s alleged slaying just the latest such example. The newspaper said it has heard an audio recording of Khashoggi’s murder in which Saudi Consul General Mohammed al-Otaibi could be heard on the tape telling those allegedly torturing Khashoggi: “Do this outside; you’re going to get me in trouble.” It said one of the torturers replied: “Shut up if you want to live when you return to (Saudi) Arabia.”

Yeni Safak claimed Khashoggi was tortured then dismembered while still alive. The Saudi who cut Khashoggi’s body up was advised to put on earphones and listen to music, according to the newspaper, which cited government security sources.

The alleged execution reportedly lasted seven minutes.

The Muslim Brotherhood/Al Queda relationship is more akin to the Sein Fein/IRA relationship than anything else. The MB is the more moderate face of AQ.

The Muslim Brotherhood has been around since 1929… how many people even heard of them 10 years ago?

Rand is right, Saudi Arabia has spent one hundred billion exporting radical wahhabism. That’s the big problem.

MB is radical in their own right but nothing like ISIS or al Qaeda.

White ISIS (Saudi Arabia), Black ISIS, ISIS Daesh.

This is really the best thread to continue talking about this topic, Rest In Peace Jamal Khashoggi, the Saudis now are saying he did die at the Consul. They claim they got in a fist-fight. So, take that for what it’s worth.

This has been a good story to follow via the various foreign-types of news services, al Jazeera, Daily Sabah, al Arabiya, etc. etc, and including good old American news outlets and the BBC. I’ve found this very intriguing and very sad. But we are probably at the end of the beginning of this story with plenty more to come out.

They claim they got in a fist-fight.
The Saudis have just admitted he was killed in the consulate:
I guess they changed their story about his leaving the consulate alive through a rear door.
from news sources:
Prince Mohammed said Khashoggi had left the consulate after a few minutes or one hour. … We have nothing to hide, he added.

The prince’s brother, Prince Khalid bin Salman, who is the Saudi ambassador to the United States, told Axios reporter Jonathan Swan, via a text message, that reports of Khashoggi’s disappearance “are completely false and baseless.”

Saudi officials have insisted that he left the consulate, safe and free, the same day he entered it Trump Jumps to the Defense of Saudi Arabia in Khashoggi Case - The New York Times

The Saudi government says it had nothing to do with his disappearance and maintains that he left through a back entrance

Sort of the way Middle East Eye is reporting it. @AlNg

I see Senator Lindsay Graham has come out and has said the explanation is not credible.

And consider this, we have that weapons deal with the Saudis, how many people have jobs involved in this deal?

More than once, Pres Trump said he would “prefer” if US retribution against Saudi Arabia does not mean cancelling its $110-billion order for America-made weapon systems. He says that could cost 600,000 jobs. But won’t announce a US response till he speaks to the Crown Prince.

So, a very troublesome situation. They could have avoided all of this. Doing things in some other manner though, I don’t approve of that certainly. But it seems to happen in the world of espionage.

At this point, we can always change our mind, I probably go with what Graham is saying.

What kind of fist fight involves 18 people?!! Egads!! If we ever really find out the truth it will very much surprise me.

The thing to keep in mind here is that the patsies are for public consumption. A break with the Saudis was not going to happen. By the same token, I imagine the actual conversations between the White House, the Secretary of State and the senior Saudis, in particular the King and the Crown Prince were probably much more frank, and I imagine the regime has been put on warning that something like this cannot happen again. As it is, a good deal of damage has been done, and many countries will likely being putting Saudi consulate staff and even many ordinary Saudis under much greater scrutiny. After all, there’s not likely to be a sensible person anywhere who is going to buy the story.

Except maybe Pat Robertson.
