Is the new forum info available for everyone? I’m interested in joining. I’ll miss CAF.
No it is only open for some, so you need to ask.

even Protestants go after other Protestants because they’re the wrong kind of Protestants!
It is too bad that Christians are split like that and cannot get along
People on CAF are also split but the goal is the same, it is just a matter of how we get there that we argue over.

Cardinal Burke did a homily on it and said it we could only unite on a path, we could change the world.

I am checking into CARM
CARM is a no go zone for Catholic and Orthodox Christians. You will be banned on sight the moment you try to defend either form of apostolic Christianity.
What is CARM? It looks to be a Protestant site and I thought it was controversial on CAF. I can’t imagine what it is like there.

Many of us have spent so many years on this forum and yet there are so many posters we have never even interacted with. I spent so much time on World News. With all the people posting on here, there had to be thousands of regular posters I would think.

Sometimes I take a time off to rethink and I wonder how many do the same and will come back only to find that the Forums are gone. I never got an email it was closing.

I have no idea where America is going but all who are here are not going anywhere so it will be interesting to see what direction we take.

I will miss CAF and clicking on the link to see what is going on. I guess it was time but I wish they would have thought about revamping it.

I heard there were only around 70 regular posters. Don’t remember where on the website someone looked to find that number, though.

Really, that number seems way too small. There are so many names on this thread alone I have never even heard of or interacted with and I have been on these forums for years so how can there be only 70 regular posters - maybe they mean daily posters or something.

70(-ish) regular posters. I assume the number the person mentioned was people who post on the site regularly, versus the number of people who have ever created an account to make 1-2 posts in the history of the site, etc.

Yes, I think the fact that you don’t recognize the names makes the point. It seems like maybe many people who didn’t post regularly on the site are nonetheless interested in chiming in to say goodbye? But the actual regular userbase was small, which (it seems like) was one of the reasons this site is shutting down. Regular users being more likely to contribute as patrons, and there being barely any of those.

I won’t mention names, but several posters are consistently thoughtful and provide information (books, links, articles, etc.) You know who you are.

Others (most of those who I have interacted with…) not so much! Their comments were along the lines of “I’m right, you’re wrong,” “I believe two incompatible things simultaneously! Watch me twist my arguments into pretzels!” or (my favorite) “Everything is black or white. There are no shades of gray.”
And of course if I had a dollar for every time I’ve been accused of being an atheist, or an instrument of Satan, or whatever, I would be very well off. I have to say, I will miss all that. It provided a treasure trove of quotations to send to my friends for their amusement.

As I’ve said several times on various threads, my main reason for taking part is to spur me to research topics I would not have investigated on my own. Another reason is that this forum is overwhelmingly right wing, and it’s very rare these days to be able to share any sort of space with those with an opposing viewpoint. So from that perspective, it has been valuable! To some extent I think I have learned what the the right wing thinks, and why.

Ma’a salaama.

Deacon Jeff just posted on a link. It was so nice to see his name again. . I have not seen Ridgerunner since November so hopefully, he knows that the forums will close. The last few times, he posted he was having trouble with his computer. There are many posters I have not seen for a while…like _Abyssiania and edwest2. .

I am glad they all came back to say goodbye and hope others will do the same. I do not recognize many names but it does show we had a lot of posters, some for days, some for years even if they were not able to be the regulars.

I’ve known about the forum closing for a couple of weeks now but I don’t feel ready for it really. I’ve learned a lot about our faith here and enjoyed reading many of the debates which I think have balanced my opinions and understanding on a number of topics. Thank you very much to those who have contributed… I can hardly mention you all by name though there are definitely some that I’ve felt real warmth towards for your knowledge, patience and gentleness, among other things.

I’m going to miss this, even though I wasn’t always around.

I missed seeing _Abyssinia and edwest2. They brought a lot to the old forums.
May God bless and keep them (and Tawny and ll the names which are momentarily escaping my memory at present).
Amen.

Time for my farewell message.

Thanks especially to everyone who prayed for me regarding my "“Prayer Intentions.” Although I was not a designated “Prayer Warrior” I prayed regularly for the prayer intentions of CAF posters.

Thanks to those who engaged me in discussion and who were tolerant of my peculiar brand of politics.

I hope to stay connected with some of you on another board, but, even if not, I hope we’ll be connected in some way as part of the broader Catholic community.

Wishing you all the best.

I can’t believe the forums are being shut down!! I never really talked on the forums much unfortunately, but I visited them so much throughout my life, especially in high school. I learned a lot from everyone here, about our Faith, peoples’ many varying opinions - right and wrong - and it definitely helped me to become more attentive to my faith. The CAF was my go-to spot on the internet to find what other Catholics thought on so many things, as it was for countless others. To this day I come here to see what you all think, and I’m gonna miss this site that was such a big part of me growing up and becoming who I am as a Catholic today. I had to leave my respects and will pray for you all! God bless all of you and farewell CAF!

Be excellent to each other and party on, dudes!

This will probably just get buried by the other goodbyes, but here goes.

This forum and this community have seen me through many parts of my faith journey. I’ve probably been reading these posts for over ten years now, as I was reading before I joined. Good times. Bad times. I’ve tried to help others. I’ve been helped by others. It seemed immortal at times. Almost like a catholic search engine, as much a part of the internet as google. I can’t believe it’s time to move on but all things come to an end.

I’ll be moving to a new forum home, which I’ve yet to fully decide upon. Maybe I’ll run into some of you there.

Thank you all and best wishes!

Oh nooooo…I just found out today this forum is closing. Where’s everyone heading to? I try to sign up for St. Isidore’s Lounge but it’s asking for a INVITE CODE. Please take me with you wherever you may be heading. Deo Gratias!

You will have to try to contact @Tis_Bearself in the hours that remain. Hopefully she will see this and contact you.

I think this kinda corny-but-cute offering sums it up …
Good Gravy! That’s ABBA in their pre-“Waterloo” pre-Eurovision incarnation!
Nope, it was on the ‘Waterloo’ album a year or two after Eurovision. Not one of their major hits, looks like it is just a TV clip or something.

They were HUUUGE here in Oz, and my older sisters were the right age bracket for me, by osmosis, to get to know every song from.every album.

I often wonder what other more useful knowledge could be in my noggin if it weren’t for all that ABBA! 🤣🤣🤣
