This is absolutely repulsive. The USCCCB can run to the defense of John Carr all they want, but even if you buy everything 2 Bishops say, it still doesn’t explain the other numerous cases of money being shuffled by their executives to political and social progressive causes. Twice we have been assured they took steps to purge it, and twice they have been proven either wrong or inept, take your pick. But now in a public, Bishop-sponsored conference they invite (AND PAY) pro-abortion, pro-gay-marriage, pro-women-ordination key note speakers (not just “some opposing viewpoint speaker”) and pay those fees with money donated by Catholics in a collection?
There is no excuse for that, and no amount of dancing on a pin about what Mr. Carr did or didn’t do over 30 years explains that. Time after time after time this group is giving money to who it shouldn’t, promoting joining organizations that are inappropriate (then sweeping it off their website like a guilty child swallowing chewing gum), publishing articles that deny the truths of the faith in order to promote social agendas, and now failing to give an honest and open account of anything they do.
Trust is one thing, but there has to be a reason for that trust or it isn’t even reasonable. Where are the Bishops, and why won’t they address the questions? I never thought I’d say this in my life, but It’s getting to where even they can’t be trusted anymore. If they don’t want to be shepherds leading and caring for Christ’s sheep, then resign and let someone who IS willing to step up and speak truth do it.
