Saul Alynski was praised on EWTN, is that true? if so I find that extremely disturbing.
As for the USCCB if that is all true then we need many many prayers, for them and the Holy mother Church!😦
Okay, perhaps I was to short, and made it sound like EWTN was praising Alinsky.

That isn’t quite how I intended it.

Here is an excerpt:

“Two Sundays ago (17JAN09) I was listening to the radio broadcast of Fr. Benedict Groeschel’s TV program on EWTN. He had a Paulist priest as a guest. I caught the last five minutes of the show where a caller complained that the Paulist had praised Saul Alinsky. Fr. Groeschel said he didn’t know who Saul Alisnky was, and the Paulist gave a non-answer, obfuscatory reply that was a prima facie example of circumlocution.”

I have a lot of respect for Fr. Groeshel. But this other guy needs his head examined. Just more indications of the infestation in the church in America.

Yes, I caught that comment on Fr. Groeschel’s Sunday show. Father G. did not make the statement nor did he affirm this guest priests comment. However, a few nights later Fr. Pacwa did address it on his program. Father Pacwa, in his youth, admired Saul Alinsky & was a “community organizer”. Father Pacwa explained Alinsky’s methods and beliefs and came to the conclusion they were not in conformity w/ his RC faith. I have no doubt there are bureaucrats within the USCCB who are pro Alinsky and pro Obama and in turn pro abortion. Heck, there are probably bureaucrats in USCCB who are anti Catholic, for that matter. Bureaucracies are great places to hide.

The USCCB has done some pretty nutty things over the years, but the worst nuttiness is largely in the past. (Witness the stronger stand the bishops are taking on Catholic politicians and abortion.) The problems have usually come from the USCCB’s professional lay staff.

That said, I looked through the entire program and found NONE of the names mentioned in the article.

Let’s consider the beams in our own eyes before we start looking for splinters in the eyes of others.

I find the news coming out about our Bishop’s Conference troubling; it is truly a scandal that money is being funneled through the USCCB to groups supporting homosexuality and abortion.

As far as those people speaking at an event, that does not necessarily warrant instant condemnation. The Bishops may seek opposing perspectives without agreeing with them. I hesitate to assume the worst of the USCCB. Sadly, it does look bad. The appearance of things, from reading the program on the USCCB website is that these people (such as John Carr) are speaking on behalf of the USCCB. If that is the case, the Conference really needs to clean house. The silence of the Bishops in the midst of this scandal has been confusing and disappointing.
One has to distinguish the bishops from the staff. The staff is largely liberal, and my guess is that liberal theological as well. My guess is that if many of them were handed a work by Hans Kueng with his name missing, they would agree with the gst of what the old gnostic has to say. And of course, the staff sets the agenda, and unless a significant no. of bishops throw a bit–and their are very collegiate–any meeting will reflect the values of the staff.

I generally agree with you, except that I think you underestimate the number of liberals, or social justice Catholics, and modernists on board at the USCCB and in diocesean chanceleries around the country.

Alinsky should be given his due. He was a hell of a good organizer. But his views were very radical, because he thought that capitalism is inherently unjust. IMHO, given that capitalism is basically economic liberalism, this is like condemning liberty because free men abuse their liberty.

brothers let’s not forget that there is more than we know. obviously things are not going to be so clear and out there for everyone to see… evil sneaks on you without you knowing. i stick with michael voris stories. just take for example the sex abuse case. we did not know about it until the world told us.

Our shepherds are still responsible for their staff and what comes from their own organization. Especially in serious matters such as we’ve recently seen. They are also responsible for the harm being done and message that is being sent to the faithful…and the collusion (is there a better word for the millions of Catholic dollars that have gone to political groups totally opposed to Church teaching?) And please remember this is nothing new - it’s been going on for YEARS!

The good Catholic organizations that are exposing this are bringing what is bad into the light. Just as in the case of the sex scandals, tho, there are those in denial who would rather bury the truth!

LORD HAVE MERCY,
CHRIST HAVE MERCY,
LORD HAVE MERCY!
Will you give it a break. St’s. Peter and Paul did not agree on everything, but they agreed on the one big thing, Jesus Christ.
There is a difference between being open minded and letting your brain fall out of your head.

This is agenda minded, they allowing them to push an anti-catholic agenda. Would you let the Church of satan send representatives to come to the event?

I’m starting to wonder about REAL CATHOLIC TV. Can they be trusted with the truth.

Looking at the event catologe of events it looks like a comprehensive view of the Church’s social teaching and action.
The few voices that the web site objects too do not appear to represent any great number. When discussing social justice issues all sides need to be heard. It is the only way that understaning an dsome common ground can be found. Often there is just a knee jerk reaction to issues.
It is troubling that the article does not have a name on it, only a staff writter. The wolves are not the speaker at the conference, but those who find no problem in attacking our bishops.

Peace,
FAB
No one I believe is attacking the Bishops. I have in fact emailed mine (Cardinal George which is the President of the Council) asking for an explaination…I of course was very cordial and civil in my questioning, but the Catholic Laity does indeed deserve to know what’s going on. We are called by Christ to correct even the hierarchy of the Church if need be…WITH CHARITY…but we are called to defend the truth. The possibility is such that the facts might not be correct, or that the agenda is to debate certain issues that are floating around in the Church, as I stated in my email…but we need to know so as not to be scandalized. In short, the USCCB should have put out a statement to the faithful explaining the “gathering” and what the goal is to be. And since they haven’t, we need to ask them. And they need to answer.

The same could be said of National Catholic Reporter! That video (from Real Catholic)
said that the mention of John Carr was not a personal attack (in fact appears to be
very pro-life) but on his longtime association with CCC who did receive funds from the
USCCB for certain of their activities having to do with abortion, etc. I’ll list the link as
soon as I can get this information.
The article from the National Catholic Reporter (very liberal) is focusing on it being a
personal attack on John Carr, which it is not.
The USCCB is being scruitinized for where the money goes, and it is something that
they should be happy to reveal.

Exactly. Why is the USCCB so deafeningly SILENT on this issue? We need to keep asking our clergy until there is a real answer. Not to condemn our Bishops, but to have a solid explaination would go a long way in preventing the faithful being scandalized.

And yes, the National Catholic Reporter is a loose leaning Catholic publication that has also errored more than a few times…I don’t even bother to read it anymore.

About my previous post, I mentioned a link that supported what I said about the NCR and
other liberal Catholics deeming this a personal attack on John Carr, but avoiding the real
questions (as yet unanswered).

I’m happy that a few of you set me straight on the NCR.
Is the Wanderer a better paper, or too far right?
