At least one person killed in shooting

At least one person has died in today’s shooting at Saugus High School.

The female patient died at Henry Mayo Newhall hospital, according to hospital spokesperson Patrick Moody.

Moody said two male patients remain in critical condition, and one male patient remains in good condition at the hospital.

Moody said the hospital received four patients from today’s incident.

Two students from Saugus High School were also transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, California.

Students had practiced active shooter drills before

Students at Saugus High School, where a shooter opened fire today, said they had practiced active shooter drills in school.

The drill “helped us because they said if you’re not in a classroom, find a classroom,” one student said.

She went on to explain how they escaped:
“We weren’t by a classroom, but we couldn’t run over there because we thought he was over there. We ran through the fence, luckily it was open, and we got as far away from campus as we could. We just kept running because we didn’t know where he was. We learned just to run.”

Deputies recover a weapon during investigation

Deputies recovered a weapon during their response to the shooting at Saugus High School, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Boese told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.

Boese said that it’s unclear if it was the only weapon.

L.A. County Sheriff says the suspect is in custody

L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva just tweeted that the shooting suspect is in custody and being treated at a local hospital.

SOON: Sheriff’s Department to hold news conference on shooting

The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department just tweeted that they will be holding a news conference shortly. We’ll be watching and updating our story here.

praying for those involved

OUR FATHER, Who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom
come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in
Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive
those who trespass against us. And lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

HAIL MARY, full of grace, the Lord is
with thee. Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us
sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

GLORY BE to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the
beginning is now, and ever shall be, world
without end. Amen.

O MY JESUS, forgive us our sins, save us
from the fires of Hell; lead all souls to
Heaven, especially those in most need of
Thy mercy. Amen.

A 16 year old girl and a 14 year old boy have been shot dead. According to the Washington Post, more than 230,000 young people in the US have experienced gun violence at school since 1999. When are the Americans going to wake up and do something about school children being shot dead while attending school? Americans spend hundredes of billions of dollars protecting people in Afghanistan, protecting people in Syria, protecting people all over the world. Why not spend a little to help the American school child who is in danger attending school.
“One student told NBC she was doing her homework when people started running.
“I was really, really scared. I was shaking,” she said.”
Don’t American schoolchildren deserve as much protection as the US gives to so many other countries around the world?

Expect responses like this:

At one point this video discusses the ways in which architecture is being placed in the way one designs a 1st person shooter game, lots of cover, line of sight, barriers, and more. Later this video has a case study of one school in particular. At the last section, college architecture is discussed.

Unfortunately bad things can happen anywhere.
Is this what Americans want for their schoolchildren? To be traumatized and frightened out of their minds as they attend school with the fear that they and their schoolmates may be shot dead as they attend class?

I certainly don’t. As someone who still spends time in the classroom, I’d like to hear some legitimate suggested solutions that don’t involve taking rights away from those who don’t use their Firearms to hurt children

I’d like to hear some legitimate suggested solutions
Mandate grip recognition technology on guns so that the gun can be fired only by the registered owner. This would prevent a 16 year old from stealing his parent’s gun and shooting it at school. He could attempt to shoot, but the grip recognition technology would prevent that.

The technology isn’t foolproof, and the cost is prohibitive. It could be a future contribution to the problem. But more egregious is your implication that there should be a registry of all firearms. Registration is a prelude to confiscation.
What about the 300 million plus legal arms already in the hands of the law abiding?

The technology isn’t foolproof,
At the local athletic club the sign in is by fingerprint recognition. I haven’t seen any problems with it.
Perhaps more research and development is needed, but considering the recent technological advances, I don’t see where any developing technical problems with grip recognition are insurmountable.
the cost is prohibitive
What is the value you put on the life of a 14 year old student? Is his life worth the extra expense that the gun owner would have to pay?
But more egregious is your implication that there should be a registry of all firearms. Registration is a prelude to confiscation.
Cars are registered every year and I am not aware of plans to confiscate all cars and replace them with bicycles.
What about the 300 million plus legal arms already in the hands of the law abiding?
All of these must be turned in and swapped for those with the gun recognition technology.
Sir, if you don’t want control on guns and you are seriously interested in protecting the lives and the mental well being of young people, I don’t see any other way out except to increase the security at all schools. You need secure fences or walls and metal detectors combined with a frisk and search of all students and others entering the building. Further you will need armed guards placed around the school. Will that cost a lot? No it would not when you compare that cost with what the Americans are now paying to protect the Germans and other Europeans. Americans now pay more than 700 billion dollars per year to provide security for the Germans and other Europeans. I guess the Americans fear foreign invasion of Europe or who knows what. 700 billion is what I calculate as the US yearly contribution to NATO.
So it is up to the Americans to decide if the lives of their school children are worth the extra effort in providing them security while attending school. The Americans have already decided to spend 700 thousand million dollars to protect the Europeans. Personally I don’t see why the protection of European citizens is more important to the Americans than the protection of the lives and mental well being of young American students?
In the meantime, as nothing effective is being done, American students are being traumatized by the increasingly aggressive safety drills across the US schools. These safety drills involve graphic and realistic enactments of what might happen in a school shooting. The drills themselves only cause more trauma, more fear, and more nightmares for these students. Already, students are scared and frightened out of their minds that someone will try to shoot them dead, and these safety drills only increase their horror and fright at such a possibility.

iPhones have fingerprint control, it doesn’t always work and you want someone’s life to depend on this technology?
They can’t even get it right in a phone, I’ll pass.

what is involved in stopping the gun from firing?
Not one to call it quits, [Plore] realised that the gun prevented illicit firing with a simple metal pin which it moved out of the way once it sensed the watch nearby. However, this metal just happened to be ferrous, and you know what that means: [Plore], with the help of some strong magnets, was able to move the pin without any electrical trickery.
Whatever system is used, there will be a hack around it. take the gun apart and remove the blocking mechanism. the tech isn’t here yet
Is his life worth the extra expense that the gun owner would have to pay?
gun control was started to restrict guns from certain groups of people. cost is one of the easiest ways to do this. why are gun control people afraid of the poor owning guns? your cost won’t stop the affluent. would it have stopped any mass killing to date?
Cars are registered every year and I am not aware of plans to confiscate all cars and replace them with bicycles.
after Beto, no one can deny the left wants gun confiscation.

Locks can be picked. But I still lock the door on my house. That doesn’t keep everyone out. But it does keep some people out. It is a deterrent.

after Beto,
Beto’s candidacy is dead. Haven’t you heard? I never liked Beto anyway. I like some of what Tulsi has been saying.
gun control was started to restrict guns
Since you are opposed to gun controls, what do you plan to do about the recurring nightmares and trauma that many American students are going through today? What security, if any, would you propose to give them as they attend school? Currently they are scared to death by the mandatory safety drills and the realization that they and their schoolmates may be shot dead while attending class or eating in the cafeteria.
Are you happy with spending 700 thousand million dollars for the security of German citizens and other Europeans and very little, relatively speaking, for the security of American students?
Have you ever been sitting at a desk, minding your own business, reading or studying or sitting in a school cafeteria
and all of a sudden, without warning and without time to react, someone comes in and suddenly shoots dead the person sitting next to you?
iPhones have fingerprint control, it doesn’t always work
That is Iphone. Fingerprint recognition works well at my athletic club. With today’s technological advances, I am sure that it is possible to correct the detects in Iphone. I don’t see why this would be an insurmountable task.

And if some woman attempting to defend her home against her “ex” who is ignoring his restraining order, and has now threatened to not only kill her, but her kids who are there frantically crying too as she is beaten (again) . . . .

. . . gets cut in the fray, and her right hand (her grip recognition technology hand) bleeds but she and her kids NEED the use of her using her new gun NOW . . .

. . . but her new “smartgun” says to her . . . .
Please wash your hands with soap and water and re-attempt access.
She pulls the trigger again. Again she hears . . .
Please wash your hands with soap and water and re-attempt access.
(She is not going to get a third chance. Nor are her terrorized kids.)

Then what?

This is robbing from Peter to pay Paul.

yes, but is it worth the burden placed on the law-abiding for the few that won’t be stopped and will bypass it or obtain another tool. the cost will price guns out of reach for the poor, is this worth it? some of these people have killed their relatives to get access, they are tech smart and this would just be part of the planning stage.

remember the simple answer is to lock up the gun, so it is inaccessible to all except the owner.
Beto’s candidacy is dead. Haven’t you heard? I never liked Beto anyway. I like some of what Tulsi has been saying.
but the idea isn’t and it wasn’t new with him. it was just finally spoken out loud.

I haven’t seen any gun proposals that would work, I’ve posted my opinion prior, look up past threads.

Do you think Apple hasn’t tried to get it to work flawlessly? how advanced is your clubs system? is it as secure as the iPhone technology or a looser application? besides the gun can be hacked.

If gun manufacturers had a marketable product you would see them or new gun companies pushing out these guns. It is a product that if it was reliable would be bought by consumers.

AINg (to @upant) . . .
what do you plan to do about the recurring nightmares and trauma that many American students are going through today?
I can’t answer for upant.

But for me,
I can do the same thing for these terrorized kids,
as I do for the terrorized kids who lost their moms waiting
for an unlawful “waiting period”
to get her gun
to defend her from her “ex”
that routinely ignored his restraining order
before he killed her . . . in front of the kids.

Pray for them.

Pray for them despite getting frequently mocked by the left,
when we offer our “thoughts and prayers” on their behalf.

Then what?
Then she goes to the secondary control of voice recognition.
As pointed out above, even though locks are not perfect, still we lock our houses at least in the big cities as modest protection against intruders,

Yeah. While she is being choked.

If you think this is so good,
have the Government universally be using them
for a few years and get back to me then on it.

.

As for the other (now-dead) single moms that AINg priced out of the market? And THEIR crying now-motherless children?

I’m sure AINg can come up with a Government program for that too.

.
still we lock our houses at least in the big cities as modest protection against intruders . . .
But we don’t effectively lock ourselves out of our houses when fractions of seconds
decisions NEED to be made immediately.

That is a value judgement. Answers to that will vary by people’s value systems.
