I have a question for those whom are well versed in science and evolution.
Here’s my take:

The theory is that there are slight differences between individuals, and some individuals have features which tend to help them survive longer and so have more offspring. The offspring inherit those features, so over many, many generations the features tend to spread to the whole population, which gradually changes.

If a population gets divided, for example by an uncrossable new river appearing, the constant slow change across generations means that after a long time those on the two sides may look different and no longer be able to inter-breed. Where this happens we say they are different species, the common ancestor being the species of the population before it got divided.

That’s about it but it’s very important to understand that: (a) There are no goals in evolution, all that counts is survival, so high-intelligence isn’t necessarily better than low-intelligence, it could well be less advantageous. (b) A species morphs into another very gradually over many, many generations. Obviously features spread around a small population in fewer generations than a large one, so a smaller population will change more quickly, but if the population is too small the inbreeding produces non-viable offspring, so for instance all humans coming from just two parents is exceedingly improbable. (c) There’s a ban on discussing evolution in this forum 🙂 and we shouldn’t test the moderator’s patience, so for more start a thread in the Back Fence forum.

It was you who said you quoted from websites, as per:

No one would associate you with websites you don’t quote if you linked the ones you do quote. In any event when quoting from a website it’s always worth including the link – it avoids any charge of plagiarism, lets readers read more if they wish, and many websites, even free sites, are copyrighted and their terms of fair use normally require an acknowledgement of authorship. You might not worry about legalities but there will be a member of staff at CAF who does.

You still haven’t said why you brought up any of this “when it rains things get wet” business in the first place. We all got taught the geology at school, we don’t need to research it, we don’t need any questions answered, we know the stuff and have done for years. It is an ex-parrot. 'E’s passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E’s expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E’s a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn’t nailed 'im to the perch 'e’d be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E’s off the twig! Don’t worry your silly head. There are no laws against quoting half a sentence especially not when it says something like ‘and sandstones, mudstones and shales.’. I distinctly remember Lui telling me he would not believe anything I said because St. A poisoned the well by posting a detraction against You’s good name. When he eventually thought of asking for a reference to a website I directed him to one in the very next post.
Your own attempts to attack my truthiness with detraction are beneath contempt and are as abhorrant as your dead parrot accent.
I do not want a link to your dead parrot, I did not request a link to your dead parrot, and I advise you to keep your links to yourself unless someone asks for them.

Thats a silly thing to say. My house was never covered by the sea, nor was my dog, if I had one. Nor was my tuff sculpture from Sicily. Before any of your volcanoes existed the very same land they were to emerge on later was under the sea.
You’re being silly. This has been entertaining, but I have an appointment with reality, so I’ll see you around!

One of the best sketches ever written, but I prefer the Spanish Inquisition sketch, and the scene in Monty Python’s Life of Brian in which Brian inadvertently steps on the toe of a hermit who’s been silent for 39 years 364 days! When he realizes he has broken his vow of silence, he begins singing, dancing, and defending his juniper bush.

For those hesitant to start a thread, I invite you to my temporary thread
**To viewers of the nitty-gritty evolution thread" **
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=605810
in the Back Fence forum

This thread is temporary because I am getting many hints from CAF posts and other sources that there is a theological movement to change the Catholic Church. Since I am aware of Catholic history, this kind of movement is not surprising. My thread is temporary because I am not totally sure which is the best approach to defend human nature. Human nature is one of the more serious elements in the theological movement to change the Catholic Church

Because my thread refers back to the original nitty-gritty thread which was closed for being over the post limit, any kind of discussion related to human nature is appropriate. The primary focus of the original nitty-gritty thread is “methods and materials” and strange as it seems, this focus slips into all kinds of theological speculations.

In any case, **civil **discussion is welcomed.

Don’t worry your silly head.
silly head - a term of endearment used to describe a loved one 😊 😊 😊 who is acting less than normal - urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=silly%20head&defid=1801353

Would have been neat if you’d done that for me when I asked. 😦

Ahem, I never attacked your truthiness (?), it was not my accent but a transcript of the original sketch, and I strongly disagree, as long as we have free speech then it’s never good to quote without linking an attribution.

I think we’ve done this one to death now and can put it behind us without mentioning it again, so here’s a last word by way of lightening your mood. 🙂

😃 I’d forgotten that, yet like everything else these days it’s on YouTube.

Inocente, I knew Noah had a swimming pool on board!

Yet the geologic fact remains, every bit of the earth was under water! Just like Noah said…

Do you know if there is any place in the world where the geologic column is complete?
Plenty of places. See The Geologic Column and Its Implications to the Flood hich lists over 30 places where the entire Geologic Column can be found:

Not that I know of, the oldest rocks are difficult to find. The different continental plates are like boards strapped to the feet of many energetic children in a lagre shallow puddle. They move north, south, east, west, when one foot is on the surface eroding sediment another is below the surface gathering sediment.

Gentle Readers,

I assure you that the beautiful truths of Catholicism do not depend on how much water it takes to make a flood.
This gentle reader wouldn’t know granny, Genesis seems to have cornered the market. Apparently there are 1,074 chapters in the NAB Old Testament, and we’ve still not finished discussing the first nine of them after 1,800 posts . At that rate it would take around another 200,000 posts to reach the first page of Matthew.

According to Six Reasons Young Christians Leave Church, “One of the reasons young adults feel disconnected from church or from faith is the tension they feel between Christianity and science. The most common of the perceptions in this arena is “Christians are too confident they know all the answers” (35%). Three out of ten young adults with a Christian background feel that “churches are out of step with the scientific world we live in” (29%). Another one-quarter embrace the perception that “Christianity is anti-science” (25%). And nearly the same proportion (23%) said they have “been turned off by the creation-versus-evolution debate.” Furthermore, the research shows that many science-minded young Christians are struggling to find ways of staying faithful to their beliefs and to their professional calling in science-related industries.

No surprise here. Shows a lack of philosophical training. It shows education is out of balance.

I suggest all students take a mandatory philosophy course.
