I have no idea why everyone hates Scrappy-Doo so much. They even have jokes about him in the franchise.

Fans in general tend to hate it when new characters are introduced. They are often tacked on to boost ratings, but don’t mesh well in the established dynamic between characters.

If fans don’t like new characters than why do they use them to raise ratings?

I always loved this one. (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

They often bring about a temporary boost. Probably because they are introduced in specials that are hyped up.

Often, the new character is a request from some executive who hasn’t been with the network the entire time the show has been running and might not have the best idea on how to keep a series fresh. Heck, they might not have any respect for the intellectual property as a work of art at all.

EDIT: I don’t know about Scrappy, but the girl protagonist introduced into the Fairly Odd Parents before it got canceled was a request from up top. Needless to say, she got mixed reviews.

That’s because Scrappy Doo is the show’s equivalent of Wesley Crusher, a smart know it all who instead of being impressive ends up being obnoxious instead.

In case anyone did not know, Wesley Crusher is a character in Star Trek the New Generation. He is the son of Dr. Beverly Crusher, ship medical officer, who is supposed to be this child prodigy.

I’m a 90s brat so aside from the classics I also got a fix of Batman: The Animated Series

I don’t get all the Wesley Crusher hate. He’s not that bad. Chill, people.

Also Scrappy is unfortunately what saved Scooby Doo from being cancelled altogether

I loved Wesley Crusher. Granted, I was a kid at the time, so the fact that there was some Doogie Howser power going on was nice.

Maybe because the character was introduced around the time the original viewers were aging out of cartoons.

My own reaction to him was that the writers were trying too hard to create a character that the viewers were “supposed” to like or admire

No idea, but I will admit that I do not like the newest version of the show.
