US military funds being used to defend the actual US for the first time in a very long time.

I thought Mexico was going to pay for the wall.
You mean like “you’ll get to keep your doctor” and your health costs will go down"?

We still have four more years to get Mexico to pay for the wall. Our health care will never be the same.

I thought Mexico was going to pay for the wall.
Maybe if our COVID-19 rate rises high enough they will. There are already some border cities in Mexico that don’t want people from the USA entering.

I think the Supreme Court refused to halt construction of the wall while the lawsuit by the Sierra Club wends its way through the courts to SCOTUS. The Ninth Circuit has ruled against Trump.

If Mexico has not paid for the wall yet, it never will. Just like the Mexican authorities said.

The Sierra Club sued to stop the transfer of $2.5B from the defense budget to pay for the wall. That is the suit decided by SCOTUS. The transfer was allowed.

" WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a request from environmental groups to stop construction of President Trump’s border wall while the administration seeks review of an appeals court loss.

The vote was 5 to 4, with the court’s more conservative members in the majority. Its brief order was unsigned and gave no reasons, which is typical when the court acts on emergency applications.

In dissent, Justice Stephen G. Breyer wrote that he feared that the court’s action effectively decided the case before the justices even considered whether to hear the administration’s appeal. Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan joined the dissent.

A year ago, by the same 5-to-4 vote, the court allowed the administration to start using $2.5 billion in Pentagon money to build the wall on the southwestern border while the case moved forward in the lower courts. In June, a divided three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, in San Francisco, ruled against the administration, saying Congress had not

authorized the spending.

But the Supreme Court’s earlier order allowing the construction remains in place and will not expire until the court either denies the administration’s petition seeking review or agrees to hear the administration’s appeal and rules on it."

This is like killing vampires: what does it take to finally settle a case? Well, those who want the wall built will be satisfied that construction will continue, while those who oppose it can console themselves with the thought that what goes up can come down. This is a never ending saga.

Elections always have consequences, just who it favors is the thing.

There is never a problem with securing the southern boarder when Democrats get to do it and do it in their time frame. Conservatives or Republicans get into office and the game of how dare they try to stop ’ immigrants " .

The way politics is played upon peoples emotions is a very easy game for what seems to be the Democrat party. Maybe the real question should be, why wasn’t the wall finished decades ago. What is taking both parties so long to secure the border and why can’t they agree to streamline the process to enter the country legally and become a citizen. Why keep manipulating the voting public.

It takes a final order on a substantive issue. A temporary restraining order or a preliminary injunction is not a final order.

I believe it has become an issue because Trump found a particular item which resonated with the conservative voters. He never had a problem with hiring ‘undocumented workers’ as a businessman. Now, today he fires the head of the TVA for supposedly using undocumented workers!

All that stuff about ‘build a wall’ and ‘Mexico will pay’ was just red meat for his crowd gatherings, IMHO.

A great many of us consider the lack of a secure border, with the huge influx of illegal immigrants, plus the drug and sex trafficking trades, a serious problem. I don’t really care why Trump is addressing it; I only care that he is in fact doing something to resolve it.

OK, but must Trump say that undocumenteds (who have a LOWER crime rate than legal residents) coming to the US are criminals and rapists? Must he slur a judge by saying his ruling was racially biased because the judge is of a racial minority? That’s just pandering a demagoguery. It does nothing to resolve any problem.

Trump never said that illegal immigrants are criminals and rapists.
"In June 2015, while Trump was a presidential candidate, he said, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best.”

He added: “They’re sending people that have a lot of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”"

Well if we keep up the rates of COVID infections, Mexico will be more than happy to pay for the wall.

Canada on the other hand will also build a wall and be happy to use their own money.

He may have a point.

It’s widely known that cartel members are among those going over the border.

Right, he’s claiming that the Mexican government unloads some criminals over the border. He may be wrong, but that’s what he’s claiming.
Your comment sounds obtuse. Trump is not talking about legal immigration by Mexicans or actions of the Mexican government.

" “I like Mexico,” Trump told CNN’s Jake Tapper . “I love the Mexican people. I do business with the Mexican people, but you have people coming through the border that are from all over. And they’re bad. They’re really bad.”

“You have people coming in, and I’m not just saying Mexicans — I’m talking about people that are from all over that are killers and rapists, and they’re coming into this country,” Trump continued."

"In his July 6 statement, Trump clarified that he was referring to cases where undocumented immigrants commit violent crimes or smuggle drugs. "

Once again, his fear-mongering was of recent vintage and did nothing to solve the problem.

Unsubstantiated claim about illegals is unsubstantiated.
Now, if you leave out violating laws regarding immigration:

" The research is clear. Undocumented and legal immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than native-born American citizens. The libertarian Cato Institute published a study based on Texas data that showed native-born citizens are more likely to be convicted of committing violent crimes, such as homicide, than either undocumented or legal immigrants."

Now, if you leave out violating laws regarding immigration:
“If we stop counting crimes illegal aliens commit, they commit fewer crimes.” Who are you fooling besides yourself?
