You have no idea if it worked or not, only time will tell FR. E may very well have been what The Holy Spirit used to bring Sean Hannity fully back to The Church. He certainly has a lot of people praying for him.🙂
Yes, we can be hopeful that this scandalous incident will the the “kick in the pants” needed to touch the conscience of our brother Sean.

I’m gonna bow out of this discussion as I have strong feelings being a new convert, and seeing someone that I held in high regard trivially treat his faith like Sean did for show ratings sickens me.

Maybe Sean didn’t get the memo?

**MEMO TO: Cafeteria Catholics (& Sean Hannity)
FROM: Pope Benedict XVI

“The Cafeteria is CLOSED!”**

Actually I think it may be more accurate to say that the Cafeteria WAS NEVER OPEN TO BEGIN WITH

The letter was posted on the internet does not matter who it was posted to could have been Joe Smoe. It was still an admonishment to Fr E.
First, it is hardly an “admonishment” implying a hard and strong disagreement. He said the priest, Fr. E, only made a mistake in his opinion. Here is what Fr. Morris has said most recently which brings to more light, why I like him so much.
The avalanche of messages I received from all of you in response to yesterday’s column reflects the widespread interest in confronting difficult issues about faith and morality in a clear, respectful, and effective way.
While Fr. Thomas Euteneuer and I may disagree on how best to attain this lofty goal in certain venues, like on a secular television network, we are of one heart and mind on substance.
Before publishing my original article, I communicated to Fr. Euteneuer in a personal letter this attitude of fraternal unity and respectful disagreement. I also offered to consider publishing on Foxnews.com his response to my column.
In a future column we can examine the specific issue of artificial methods of contraception (the original debate), and in particular, why just over 75 years ago, every major Christian denomination opposed their use in marital, sexual relations, and why the Catholic Church still does. This may be a chance for Sean to examine the issue in depth.
Particularly interesting were the hundreds of messages I have received yesterday from non-Catholics, including many pastors, and non-Christians. In these notes you expressed your commitment to collaborate with both of us as we strive together to build a civilization of truth and love.
God bless, Father Jonathan

I heard Sean Hannity make these comments about birth control a couple of years ago and was frankly shocked. At the time I was a Mormon looking into the Catholic Church. I have since been baptized Catholic. I wrote Hannity and told him he had been rude to Father Euteneuer. I’m less concerned about Hannity’s views on birth control than I am about his mistreatment of a priest who he had on his show. He didn’t give Father Euteneuer the chance to even make his point before Hannity launched into a diatribe about the priest scandal and judging him, etc. The Church’s position about birth control is correct, and Hannity should not be publicly opposing it. He also needs to learn how to dialogue with people instead of simply slamming them. I’m a Newt Gingrich Republican – Hannity really made conservatives look bad.

God bless Father Euteneuer. He handled himself very well and didn’t let himself get flustered. Anyone have his address? I’d love to send him a letter of support and thank him for how well he represented the Church.

I have always liked this show and have been able to ‘set aside’ my irritation with Sean’s cafeteria Catholicism, but this segment really brought his true self to light. It’s going to be hard for me to give Mr. Hannity much respect after seeing how disrespectful he was to Fr. Euteneuer.

He said more than that:

*Dear Sean,

As I watched a fellow Catholic priest spar with you on the March 9 edition of Hannity and Colmes, I hung my head in shame and sadness. My colleague in religion (whom I’ve never met) used the public airways and Internet to call you a heretic and hypocrite. Because he chose to do this in a public forum, I want you and your viewers to know, publicly, that as an analyst of this television network, I believe this good priest, who does great work, exercised, on this occasion, shockingly poor judgment. I consider his willingness to give his personal opinion about your status within the Church inappropriate and ill-considered, to say the least.*

I do not believe that is as strong as Fr. E came on to Sean Hannity.

Also, according to Fr. Morris, it appears there was contact between Fr. Morris and Fr. E.

What evidence do you possibly have of this contention? It was more than apparent to me in this exchange with the good Father that Sean Hannity was bloated, derailed and blinded with pride in defending and avoiding the central issue at hand --he refusal to submit to Church teaching in a core area of faith and morals. He was but an exemplar of a cultural, cafeteria Catholic gone amok in self-will run riot. God have mercy on his soul to accept the grace for conversion.
I was being sarcastic. Sean is not about to change his mind, at least not that he reveals.

Quite frankly I really think you are missing the whole point of this issue. You seem to want to make this about who is the nicer Priest, It is not about either Priest it is about first and foremost Sean Hannity’s Cafeteria Catholicism and his utter Disrepect for The Catholic Church. It is about how he continues to profess that disrepect and spread false teachings of The Church to thousands of Catholics.

It is about how one couragous Priest said no you can’t continue to do that, it is wrong. Everyone catholics and non catholics alike crucified The Church, with so called Catholics leaving the Church because of the sex scandals. Why? because everyone screamed to high heaven how no one opened their mouths and no one said anything. Everyone moans about Pelosi, Kennedy, Kerry Etc recieving communion, why oh why? So here we have a Priest who does have the courage and people are still moaning, and complaining he should have kept his mouth shut. FR.E did the right thing, this was not the first time that it had been brought to Hannity’s attention that he was spreading false teachings. Other Priests had brought it to his attention as far back as 1994 but he ignored them.

Hannity knew/knows full well the teaching of The Church he just choose to ignore them and preach what he choose to believe. Fr.E did the right thing someone had to and I have tremendous respect for him for doing so.

There is a very strong “cult of personality” surrounding Sean Hannity, people lift him to a higher level then he ever deserved.

A fair questions is this:

What would the state of the Church be in the United States if every Priests was like Father Euteneuer? Would the sinful social agendas be in place if all Priests were like him? Would the abuse scandal ever have happened if all Priests were like him? Would abortion still be legal if all Priests were like him?

He is exactly the type of Priest we have been clamoring for.

I am replying to previous posters that have hailed Fr. Euteneuer has a hero and did such a wonderful thing while lowered Father Morris to a employee of Fox that is scared they will take away his “pay check” while they have disagreed with my opinion I responded and this is where the discussion as lead not under my own prerogative. In my first post, I disagreed with how both sides handled themselves and especially to Sean’s remarks in response to Father Eutenuer. I do not believe he(Fr. Euteneuer) went about it in the best way, he could have gone about it differently or stated other things to illustrate the Truth.

I am not saying nor have I ever stated I agree with Mr. Hannity or lowered it to a secondary subject.
Fr.E did the right thing someone had to and I have tremendous respect for him for doing so.
He had the right intention, he has the Truth but I did not grow in my respect him for how he went about spreading it. I do respect that he is spreading it and I agree priests remain silent and I am not promoting that, I am stating there must be a better way to evangelize and spread Truth while bringing Catholics that fall into error back into the fold.

i believe one of the reasons there is so much dissent and wide spread error are because of wimpy bishops and priests who don’t want to ‘rock the boat’. they are overly concerned with not hurting feelings to the point they compromise the truth.

sean wasn’t an invinsibly ignorant sinner, he knew exactly what the church teaches and tried to make fr. euteneuer look foolish for defending the truth on public television. it’s not like it was father’s show and he invited sean on it to make him look stupid for his erroneous views.

the truth hurts. most americans have over inflated self-esteem. we lack humility and when we are admonished, we feel that some injustice was done to us.

1994… Sean Hannity is contacted by Priests and told that what he is saying about abortion and ABC on tv is wrong. Those are only the recorded ones that we kow of I would bet there have been more over the years.

2007…13yrs later, Count them 13yrs later Mr Hannity is STILL spreading the false teachings even though it has been brought to his attention years ago.

Fr.E tried to get Mr Hannity to discuss these issues OFF AIR but no Mr Hannity being the egotistical media hound that he is wanted it ON AIR. Are you getting this? Me Hannity wanted it ON AIR.

So what are you talking about Fr E’s intentions were good but the way he spread the truth was wrong?
What exactly did you want him to do? tell Hannity he was right, and he was doing a great job misrepresenting Church teaching? What you don’t seem to be getting here is that sooner or later this was bound to happen to Hannity it was just a matter of time. If not Fr.E some other couragest Priest would have come along and Hannity in all his bravado would have thrown down the gauntlet and challenged him to a duel which is what he did to Fr. E, but he lost.

Oh if only!

Well we have to consider, when a time that all priests and bishops condemned anyone that slightly disagreed a heretic and demanded they repent, the largest break away(protestant reformation) occurred. So because the Church lacked compassion, lacked dialog and many other reasons including abuses and sins of clerics, we had the largest dissent in the history of the Church.

As much as I don’t want to call any Bishop in union with the Pope “wimpy” as you speak of respect towards priests, it is a two way street, I agree that some Bishops and Priests, have gone astray in staying well grounded in Truth and “gave in” to societies pressures and their human nature prevailed in some cases.Which can be attributed to one of the reasons that lead to dissent and lost of the education among many Catholics.

I do not think that I am trying to convey a point that Father E should “compromise truth” or neglect proper value of teaching the faithful precepts and reasons why many things occur in the Church.
