This is the tactic that priest used with Sean. Didn’t work too well did it?
You have no idea if it worked or not, only time will tell FR. E may very well have been what The Holy Spirit used to bring Sean Hannity fully back to The Church. He certainly has a lot of people praying for him.🙂

I think it is working wonders. People are finally having it drawn to their attention that the Church still teaches artificial contraception is a sin, and she is serious about it too!

Yep it certainly has catholics asking questions about it again and what The Church really teaches and that is a good thing.

Poor Sean- He also a few days ago mentioned Gov. Romney as being a “good Christian”…the Mormons do not believe in the Trinity! They are heretical- Sean should be more careful!
Another example of poor Cathechesis and not knowing about the truth that the Catholic Church holds.

We must pray for more adult Catechesis- back to basics- maybe Baltimore Catechism time???

What about Fr. Morris? Is he not more qualified then you or I?
Morris is a ‘paid’ consultant to Fox News as I understand it. No wonder he sided with Hannity but it sounds like a conflict of interest to me. Shame on Fr Morris for taking a side of a heretic instead of a fellow priest when it is so obvious who is wrong here. Even if Fox News pressured him to do it, as I bet they did.

All I can do is shake my head. :nope:

There is a right way and a wrong way to do it. Instead of finger pointing and feeling it’s your personal responsiblity to admonish and instruct, just try living your faith and provide a good example for others to see. Telling people they are heretics and giving admonishments does not accomplish much except make people angry.

Think about what your goal is. Is it to help people understand the Catholic faith and bring them closer to God through kindness and example, or is it to shame and put down those who either disagree or don’t understand the Church? If it’s the latter, then you are liable to run off more than you bring in. This is the tactic that priest used with Sean. Didn’t work too well did it?

Think about it.
Yeah, because Sean was just about to change his mind about the issue after years of public defiance. Now I get your point.

Along with the third shooter? I hear the government staged the Apollo landing. You can theorize all you want, to say a priest like Fr. Morris who is in good standing with the Church to be pressured or because of payment, sided with Hannity(which he didn’t), is absurd.
But can you tell me why I should listen to Father Morris than Father Euteneur?
Well, Father Morris did receive a licentiate degree in Moral Theology while Fr. Euteneur received his licentiate degree in biblical theology. Fr. Morris would have much further learning and training in this specific field unlike then Fr. Euternuer.

But as that is not a well solid reason, you can also not give me a reason why I should listen to Father Euternuer. It is just the fact that you agree with how Father Euternuer went about speaking the Truth and I did not.

Father Jonathan Morris is vice rector for the Legionaries of Christ Seminary in Rome. Father Thomas Euteneuer is president of the world’s largest pro-life organization. I don’t see Father Morris being more educated on the subject of the sanctity of life than Father Euteneuer simply due to the difference in nature of the degrees the two men were granted. It’s the life’s work that matters, not the degree.

I do not wish to demean the great and wonderful work Father Euteneuer is doing, but I was asked for a reason, and I gave a possible reason. I am not saying Fr. Morris is more educated on the matters of sanctity of life, rather he has more extensive studies in ethics, in such, the situation in how Father Euteneuer came across, is a matter of ethics.

I wish there are no vice-rector’s on this forum. It is a huge responsibility to be a rector or vice-rector because you are in charge of the formation of priests, it is one of the greatest gifts and most daunting ‘burdens’ a priest can receive, IMO. A very important job, that is not to be pushed aside, as I know you weren’t but it may come across that way. Just as I wish not to make it a competition between the priests or in any way “push aside” what Fr. Euteneuer is doing and the great accomplishments in his ministry. Rather I was giving a possibility of a reason for Fr. Morris’ correct response to Mr. Hannity, noting that he did not respond to Father Euteneuer.

I really don’t think there is a need to debate the theological credentials of either priest. They are not in disagreement about the morality of contraceptives. They are both stand by Church teaching. They only disagree with how a public figure should be called out on their public dissent. Father Morris felt it necessary to publicly admonish Father Euteneur for publicly admonishing Sean Hannity. That seems rather inconsistant to me, but is not really something that I find morally troubling.

I disagree Father Morris responded correctly to Mr. Hannity. Pope Benedict’s recently released document “Sacramentum Caritatis” warns us to not receive the Eucharist unworthily. In light of the Truth, and in light of our Holy Father’s explicit direction, Father Euteneuer gave the more correct response to Sean Hannity. It is a matter of charity that Sean Hannity should be refused the Eucharist. Administering discipline is difficult, but the lack of it is neglect.

I don’t in any way intend to slight Father Morris. He spoke from his heart and said what he thought was appropriate. In light of our Holy Fathers words however, Father Euteneuer was the more charitable of the two, despite what a person’s emotions might lead them to believe.

Fr Pacwa on EWTN just scolded Sean Hannity and spoke in favor of Fr E. Hooray! I knew Fr Morris mistepped, now EWTN is getting involved.

But it was kool to hear Fr Pacwa scold Sean Hannity and reinforce my own views on this liberal parading as a conservative.

Father Euteneuer was the more charitable of the two
I can not speak for what Fr. Morris said in private to Mr. Hannity, because reception of Holy Communion and the worthiness of the a figure, such as Mr. Hannity, is to be done in private. Whether or not Fr. Morris ever spoke to him about it is unknown because unlike Fr. Eutenueuer, he did not say anything publicly about it nor should he and we should never take that as a sign as neglect or siding with Mr. Hannity.

Again, I am not saying Fr. Eutenueuer is spewing falsehood, that is not the discussion. I believe it is the approach and how it occurred is where, like Fr. Morris, I was saddened after watching the program.
Father Morris felt it necessary to publicly admonish Father Euteneur for publicly admonishing Sean Hannity.
The letter was an open letter to Mr. Hannity not Fr. Euteneuer. Fr. Morris says why he is doing this;
Because he chose to do this in a public forum, I want you and your viewers to know, publicly, that as an analyst of this television network, I believe this good priest, who does great work, exercised, on this occasion, shockingly poor judgment.
The poor judgment being “brandishing law without palpable love”. I know you disagree, but that is how it came across to me also when Fr. Eutenuer was on. What he did to me, seemed necessary for those that hold an similar opinion.

The letter was posted on the internet with an intended audience of the general public, so it is really irrelevant to whom it was addressed. Father Morris, by means of this letter, publicly admonished Father Euteneuer. I suspect that Father Euteneuer can take it though. Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

What evidence do you possibly have of this contention? It was more than apparent to me in this exchange with the good Father that Sean Hannity was bloated, derailed and blinded with pride in defending and avoiding the central issue at hand --he refusal to submit to Church teaching in a core area of faith and morals. He was but an exemplar of a cultural, cafeteria Catholic gone amok in self-will run riot. God have mercy on his soul to accept the grace for conversion.

I’m pretty sure that he was being sarcastic.

The letter was posted on the internet does not matter who it was posted to could have been Joe Smoe. It was still an admonishment to Fr E.

I’m gonna bow out of this discussion as I have strong feelings being a new convert, and seeing someone that I held in high regard trivially treat his faith like Sean did for show ratings sickens me.

Maybe Sean didn’t get the memo?

**MEMO TO: Cafeteria Catholics (& Sean Hannity)

Ooh, I love this “memo.” I’m going to print it out and pass it around! 😃 LOL

Kendy:
We need to spend less time calling people heretics and more time, lovingly showing them the way and rejoicing when they come home.
The most loving thing that Fr. Euteneuer could have done was to publically correct and admonish Sean Hannity for his very public, heretical and scandalous views as a self-proclaimed Catholic. Fr. Euteneuer all but pointed out to Sean hannity the way home to faithfulness and unity with the Church. We all saw the self-indignant, rude and defensive posturing by this self-relishing public commentator. This mantra stream of Fr. Euteneuer not being “loving” is a misnomer of what true love is.
This is so true!!

And when Father told Sean that he would withhold Communion from him, Fr. was actually being merciful. One, he doesn’t want Sean to commit sacrilege and two, Fr. E. needs to protect the Eucharist as an Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist.
