By the way, thanks for expressing your compassion about my son. He was a believer, but wasn’t living near me and I had planned to share my conversion and the things I had learned that very weekend. I didn’t get a chance. I have placed my hope in the Divine Mercy of God and I believe I will see him again one day in Heaven.
I’m sure your son already knows of your conversion. 🙂

Meantime, I find it comforting that I can now believe it is alright to pray for him. It was his death which actually brought me to the place that I could accept the teachings of the church on praying for the dead. Until then, that was one of the last holdouts I had concerning church doctrine. Incidently, it was also his death that brought me the peace and confidence to actually pray the Rosary.
God bless you! I pray for you and I know that your son is praying for you. Our blessed mother is looking out for your son and she is also looking out for you. :gopray:

The very first time I ever prayed it was during the exact moment of his death and I had dedicated the Rosary TO HIM. I don’t think that was an accident at all.
Wow! I love hearing stories like this.
I do not believe in coincidences. I only believe in God-incidences. 😉 And indeed Mary our Mother in Heaven was praying for him at that moment as you prayed, “…pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.”

Also, it was Mary who I most related to when I saw his cold body in the morgue. I knew she understood what it was like to lose a son. Since then, I love the Blessed Mother like I never thought I was ever allowed to do before.
Oh my goodness, I have goosebumps, my heart is going 240 and I have a lump in my throat; tears of joy for you http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/Alegre-Fe/Emoticons/CryHappytear.gif and tears of sadness http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i85/Alegre-Fe/Emoticons/Cry.gif for those who cannot comprehend what you feel for our Blessed Mother. I pray that everyone will soon feel the same way that you do and the only way it could happen is with God’s Grace. So I will pray for that. :gopray:

I love your posts to me. They are a huge blessing and encouragement!

I pray, too, that my loved ones will one day understand the truth about Mary. All my life, I was told she was just like the rest of us…a sinner and no one anymore special than any other sinner. We could safely mention her at Christmas–if we were VERY careful. We could have a Nativity set—(idol worship was actually allowed at Christmas only-- 😉 ) Even now, the first thing my friends and family mention when they hear we are Catholic is usually something about “Maryolitry,” Mary “worship” and “praying to dead people.” Since I struggled with this issue longest, I am pretty well ready with answers, which helps.

I truly do not think I could have dealt with death of a child, had I not found the church first.

There are many such experiences which I have had–while seeking the truth and studying into the Catholic church. They are nothing short of miraculous. And yes, when I got to “at the hour of our death” I broke down crying for my son…and cried through the remainder of the decades. About 5 minutes after finishing the prayer, my phone rang. It was my daughter sobbing uncontrollably that he had just died. My first sincere communication to Mary with my OWN WORDS, was over his body, when I cried out loud “My blessed Mother in Heaven, take care of my baby for me…I offer him up to you, my Father in Heaven…”

The first Mass I attended after his funeral and after coming back home, my Priest prayed for him…and the peace of God washed over my soul and I could feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit and appreciation for “the Communion of the Saints”. As I cried quietly in my seat, and looked at the crucifix, I said to myself, “I can never turn back…thank you Lord Jesus.”

We just dont agree …period…the website is not Christ-like, it makes fun of Sean Hannity and calls him names…again this is not how I was taught to live. live how you see fit
The attitude of “I’m okay, you’re okay” is NOT Christ-like at all. We are to admonish the sinner so he won’t remain in his sin. I don’t see “making fun of Sean” on that website either.

but I am planning on extending love and mercy and forgiveness…“and forgive us our sin as we forgive others” the Lord’s Prayer makes it very easy for me to forgive.
I did that very thing the first time I saw the video. I did not watch it while it was on air. I learned of it from this other Catholic forum. I even sent you (in a reply to your PM to me) a link to the thread so that you can read the responses in that thread including my responses (SandyFe) so that you can see that the last thing I want to do is bash Sean. You are in judgement of me in thinking that I have not forgiven Sean for his actions against the Priest and against Church teaching. I even started a thread on Sean’s “Religion” forum so as to bring to light the truth about ABC verses NFP, and you know this since that is from where you came. I expressed in that thread time and time again that I do not want to bash Sean. But you keep expressing on how you are forgiving Sean as if no one else here has forgiven him.

Forgiveness is an act of the will. That will is God’s will. We are to forgive out of love for God and because we want forgiveness. But that does not mean that we cannot express our concern about this whole situation. We Catholics need to speak out when it comes to certain Church doctrine especially when so-called “catholics” express in public what they think is Church teaching. Sean is not an “authority” on any matter when it comes to Church doctrine and Fr. E. has expressed that to Sean.

And the tables in the synagage were turned over, yes, not addressing an individual persons ‘sin’ problem (it was a church problem, wonder how many tables would be turned over in the Church today?)
Plenty I’m sure. I don’t deny that. The Church is Holy because Jesus is here. But the people in the Church are not impeccable. No one should want to leave Jesus because of Judas. This is our test of Faith. And we need God’s Grace to persevere in His Church, the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church!

susiem:
…people caught in ‘sexual sin’ are characterized by Jesus finding them privately
Hmm… Mary Magdeline’s sin was not “brought out” in private, it was brought “out” in public. Mary had to run away from the men and she ran out in public. Since she brought herself out in the public, Jesus had to confront her in public. Jesus told her to go and sin no more.

That is what Fr. E. was trying to do with Sean. Fr. E. tried meeting with Sean in private but Sean refused. Then Sean invited Fr. to appear in public on his show. Fr. E. took the opportunity to enlighten Sean on Church doctrine about ABC but Sean turned it around and disrespected Fr. E. in public. Since Sean has told the “whole world” about what HE thinks is Church teaching on ABC, Fr. E. had to try to correct that error in public to the “whole world.” Everything happens for a reason and I see a good reason for this whole situation in the future; all for the Glory of God.

…HE went to the Well when HE knew HE could confront her in privacy and in love and truth…HE told US that the -]SHEPARD/-] shepherd leaves the entire flock to find one lost sheep…also the Prodigal Son is rejoiced over and given much more than the older (self-righteous) brother…Jesus DO NOT EMBARRASS AND HUMILITATE…Amen
God will HUMILIATE those who need it. He can and will knock people off their “high horse” when needed. So if we do not humble ourselves God will do it for us.

It’d be nice if Sean would work a little harder at being a “great Catholic.” I think it’d help him to be a better “great American.” Perhaps the best starting place would be a study of charity…
Yes, Sean Hannity keeps talking about how we are to be “great Americans.” His priorities are mixed up. We are to be “great Christians” first, in particular for us, “Great Catholics!” If we are great Catholics, everything else should fall into place with God’s will.

look up grace in Greek …I extend grace, and I forgive… that may be the problem …perhaps you havent read the Bible or Church dogma that speaks to believers about these matters. God Bless…bye Sandy… I really am not uplifted by sarcasm. It isnt good for my spirit…or anyones for that matter.
I know very well what GRACE is. That is a free gift from God through the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Since I am not Jesus Christ, I cannot extend Grace to you. Only God can. I can however, extend my forgiveness to you.

As far as sarcasm, … you got me there as I have no idea where you got “sarcasm” from my post.

As I stated in my previous post, I have forgiven Sean and I’m sure others here have forgiven him as well. So please don’t act as if you’re the only one that has forgiven him.

You keep saying “bye” yet you keep replying to my posts (here and on the other forum). If you wish to put me on “ignore” please go ahead and do so.

Peace. You are in my prayers.

I see this in very simple terms. Sean *is * Catholic. Being Catholic means that you adhere to its teachings. So if you are a Catholic that believes that the pope is infallible, you should also believe that AC is wrong. So what is his excuse?:hmmm:
I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt as far as his knowledge or lack there of, about ABC in Church doctrine. One of the things we can do is pray for God’s Grace and that the Holy Spirit can enlighten him with certain things. I think one of the first things he might need is to go to Confession. 😦 Without God’s Grace he won’t even have a thought in his heart to do this. So I’m praying for God’s Grace to touch his heart. :gopray:

Jesus talked about leading another into sin and what would happen if one did such a thing. Publicly contradicting Church teaching on the matter of contraception could very easily mislead one into a bad act.
Indeed it most certainly could. Since Sean has publicly stated that it would be okay for people to use ABC, people are likely to say that it is okay since a Catholic person has stated this. Of course there are people out there that have more sense than to listen to a person on a public news channel rather than to listen to the Church, but not all have this sense. I pray that most have some common sense to go to the Church when a question comes to mind. Sean just layed on a huge burden on himself and he has no idea the calamity he may have started.

fix:
Fr. E did very well.
He sure has done well. We must not forget him in our prayers. :gopray: Let us remember Sean in our prayers also.

I am surely no authority on any of this and am still learning, but I can’t even understand why anyone of any religion would think it is alright to dissent against their church or church leaders.
  • What would happen to me, if I told the catholic church I wanted to become a member, but listed some things that I refused to follow or believe?
  • Would I be admitted as a member of the church?
  • Shouldn’t the criteria be the same for a person who is already a member as for someone who is about to become a member?
Why would anyone even want to be part of an organization that they didn’t trust to tell them the truth in the first place? :doh2:

If we pray, Sean could completely come around on these issues–and if he does, God could use all of this FOR GOOD in the end. One day, many people may listen to HIM who would not have listened to any other Catholic, because they know he can relate to them. We just never know.
Praying here :gopray:

Maybe someone should send him a good course on the “Theology of the Body.”
 I have thought of sending him one of the many books out on this subject but would he even bother reading it? 😦 And to what address would I send it? I wish I had his home address 😉 instead of sending it to FoxNews. 😛

By now, most of us have heard about the altercation Sean Hannity promoted with the good priest Father Tom Euteneuer about contraception.

Hannity promotes contraception as a hedge against abortion and does so under the mantle of “Catholic.” This position contradicts the stance of the Church and when gone public Hannity becomes a “heretic.”

This is a mark that, if gone unrepentant, can condemn one’s own soul to the abyss.

To defend heresy in public is to build layer upon layer of false pride. This adds, even more solemnly, the danger our poor brother Sean has placed himself.

False pride is the most dangerous of sins because:
Code:
False pride inhibits one's examination of conscience
so to shield from one his/her faults and to see inside.
False pride renders a conscience a false grandeur thus
elevating one’s self above reproach.

False pride opens one’s mind to doubt God’s word as
it is handed down from the Church.
Code:
False pride puts one's own notion of his/her spirituality on a
plane with the teaching authority of the Church
Code:
False pride is so dangerous because it is never noticed.
This sin is one, that if left unnoticed by the possessor. that invites and consorts with demons of the first order of Satan. False pride was the reason for the fall from Heaven. And to rid oneself of this malady much prayer of petition is necessary.

I wondered to where one would go for efficacious prayer for such a sin to be purged. The thought occurred that "…if one could petition the humblest servants of God for their prayerful intervention it would be at a convent such as Sisters of the Poor; Sisters of Charity; and such Orders as those. To combat pride with humility is a sure way to defeat the former.

Bless Father Tom and pray for Sean Hannity.

Fr. Euteneuer was on one of the two Catholic radio stations here today (I cannot remember which one) discussing the Hannity scandal. It was very interesting to say the least.

Sean Hannity has e-mail scanners/censors on his staff. It would be a roll-of-the-dice chance he will read your mail.

Over the last few years Sean has become more despotic and saturated with overt false pride. He is in danger because it prompts a heart to harden and lose consciousness of humility.
Code:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom
                     of Heaven."

Look what I found when searching through writings of the early church Fathers:

newadvent.org/fathers/15071.htm
St. Augustine
Chapter 17 [XV.]—It is, however, one thing for married persons to have intercourse only for the wish to beget children, which is not sinful: it is another thing for them to desire carnal pleasure in cohabitation, but with the spouse only, which involves venial sin. For although propagation of offspring is not the motive of the intercourse, there is still no attempt to prevent such propagation, either by wrong desire or evil appliance. They who resort to these, although called by the name of spouses, are really not such; they retain no vestige of true matrimony, but pretend the honourable designation as a cloak for criminal conduct. Having also proceeded so far, they are betrayed into exposing their children, which are born against their will. They hate to nourish and retain those whom they were afraid they would beget. This infliction of cruelty on their offspring so reluctantly begotten, unmasks the sin which they had practised in darkness, and drags it clearly into the light of day. The open cruelty reproves the concealed sin. Sometimes, indeed, this lustful cruelty, or, if you please, cruel lust, resorts to such extravagant methods as to use poisonous drugs to secure barrenness; or else, if unsuccessful in this, to destroy the conceived seed by some means previous to birth, preferring that its offspring should rather perish than receive vitality; or if it was advancing to life within the womb, should be slain before it was born. Well, if both parties alike are so flagitious, they are not husband and wife; and if such were their character from the beginning, they have not come together by wedlock but by debauchery. But if the two are not alike in such sin, I boldly declare either that the woman is, so to say, the husband’s harlot; or the man the wife’s adulterer.

aimee,

Truly, I would love for you to prove to me absolute morality. Proof, not opinion. I will be most happy to concede this point, so please fire away and provie it to me.
Let’s try to keep this thread on topic, please.
The debate about absolute morality is better served in the Moral Theology forum under Apologetics.

Peace,

Angela Tate

Moved this thread from Popular Media to buy time to investigate an offending poster complaint which will take me a while to sift through…plus, it appears this is a duplicate discussion thread which may end up being merged into a primary thread.
