Just a FYI, Harry has anger issues. Plus he just saw his mentor (Dumbledore) get murdered by Snape. Plus he feels that it’s his fault due to the fact Dumbledore asked him to (spoiler) force-feed him the potion in the cave by the sea in order to recover an important item, and said potion severely weakened Dumbledore. Plus he doesn’t know that Dumbledore’s near death anyways due to an incident earlier in the year. You forget that he realized his ‘error’ and attempted to use it again against Snape (in Half Blood Prince). Is that the mark of a good person?
The point is he’s not exactly stable at that point in the novel.
I think that morally his culpability would be reduced anyways due to the fact that (another spoiler) he’s got a piece of Voldermort’s soul inside of him, which has a real measurable effect on him, such as giving him a “link” to Voldermort’s mind, allowing him to speak to snakes, and in book 5 especially he has a lot of angry outbursts which seem to be due to said link to Voldermort’s mind. All of these effects disappear after the piece of Voldermort’s soul is destroyed.
Wow, you perfectly fit the stereotype of people who complain about books they haven’t read. Look, Harry Potter is even listed. However, the answer to the question is: No I have never polluted my mind by reading such unwholesome and unsavoury material.
No amount of reviews, analysis or research is enough to actually replace reading the books themselves. The problem is that you in fact do not have your own opinion that you would form from actually reading the books themselves. Instead you outsourced your opinion to people who’s motive’s are unknown and who aren’t even trying to be neutral in their review and instead try to impose their opinions on others (most likely because they have an inferiority complex and need others to affirm their own opinions in order to feel like they’re worth something). Most people would accept that reading trusted reviews and in-depth analysis of any work is quite sufficient for the purposes of debate, after all one is engaging in a debate not writing a book review. In the course of my research on HP I have read various reviews, articles and analysis from various sources, both pro and con.
And this is especially not an example of being condescending to your opponents and treating your own opinion as Gospel from the Lips of the Lord Himself. Now of course people are quite free to ignore my critique and censures of the HP novels and even treat them with the contempt that they imagine that they rightly deserve
No one has said that you shouldn’t be allowed to voice your own opinion. Don’t play the “I’m being persecuted” card. It’s such a lame excuse to try and get your opponents to pity you and back off because no one wants to be seen as a “persecutor”. I’ve seen it played enough and frankly I’m sick of people using it. Frankly, it’s the “mature” person’s version of a temper tantrum.however the one thing that they cannot do on a public forum is prevent me from expressing my viewpoint, however much they disagree with it.
