Senate confirms Amy Coney Barrett to Supreme Court, cements 6-3 conservative majority

Barrett will be Trump’s third justice appointed to the Supreme Court, the most for any president since Ronald Reagan

By Tyler Olson | Fox News

The Senate voted 52-48 on Monday night to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court in a move that makes the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals judge and Notre Dame law professor the third appointment to the high court by President Trump, solidifying his administration’s legacy even further just a week before Election Day as he seeks a second term.

The last president to nominate three new justices to the Supreme Court was Ronald Reagan.

Monday’s vote marked the end of a confirmation process that lasted less than 40 days from when late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died to when her successor, Barrett, was confirmed. . .

Wonderful news. Let’s just pray authoritarian Biden doesn’t win and try to destroy the court.

SEAN MORAN

26 Oct 2020

The Senate voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court on Monday night, making her the third justice to join the nation’s highest court under President Donald Trump.

The Senate confirmed Barrett along partisan lines, 52-48. . . .

. . . The relative ease with which the Senate Judiciary Committee managed to advance Barrett led the Washington Post and several leftists to call for Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Dianne Feinstein’s (D-CA) retirement. . . .

. . . Brian Fallon, the executive director of Demand Justice, said, “It’s time for Senator Feinstein to step down from her leadership position on the Senate Judiciary Committee. If she won’t, her colleagues need to intervene.”

Schumer said he had a “long and serious talk” with Feinstein regarding handling the confirmation hearings.

The Democrats’ inability to slow down Barrett’s confirmation might result from polling, which found that a majority of Americans want Barrett confirmed to the nation’s highest court. . . .

. . . Now, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas will swear in Barrett to the nation’s highest court at the White House on Monday evening.

I wonder if there’s anything Catholics here upset that a pro-life constitutionalist judge and professor was appointed to the highest court of the land.

Oh frabjous day, callou, callay!

Perhaps God’s wrath shall be appeased and Americans might be born again … instead of getting soul aborted at the judgement of nations for our luke-warmness or worse …and some Social Darwinist demons’ “right to choose!” 👿

😇 - I DO presume but couldn’t resist the celebration of the moment … and the warning Jesus may have wanted me to give. 👼

The Republicans are hypocrites, but I approve the nomination. I only hope she’ll be independent and impartial and not feel like she owes favors for her appointment.

Edit: And I’m not saying “I hope she by default rules for Biden if the election goes to SCOTUS.” Just truly I hope she makes her judgment independently, as I hope all the judges will.

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 26, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – The United States Senate voted 52 to 48 Tuesday night to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett as the next Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, marking a rightward shift in the federal judiciary’s balance of power. . . .

. . . A Catholic mother of seven widely regarded as a pro-life originalist, Barrett was a member of Notre Dame’s Faculty for Life group, is reported to have signed another letter published by Becket Law criticizing the Obama administration’s contraception mandate, and signed a 2006 ad declaring “we…oppose abortion on demand and support the right to life from fertilization to natural death.” She has also written multiple articles critical of the stare decisis doctrine, which grants weight to past rulings’ status as precedent, regardless of whether they were rightly decided. . . .

. . . Vice President Mike Pence was ultimately not needed to cast a tie-breaking vote.

. . . Concerned Women for America’s Penny Nance, calling Barrett “an inspiration to millions.”

“A conservative, constitutionalist, pro-life woman at the Supreme Court is why we voted for Donald Trump. We congratulate Justice Barrett, and we are praying for her and her family. The task ahead will be a difficult one, but we have full confidence in her abilities as a jurist.”

Planned Parenthood director turned pro-life advocate Abby Johnson commented:
“I’m going to remember this day when Amy Coney Barrett, an accomplished woman in her own right, achieved the pinnacle of her profession while raising a family, embracing her role as a wife, and demonstrating that it’s all possible without abortion. Her confirmation hearings were a testament alone to her astute legal mind, her compassion for others, and ability to fulfill her role as the next Supreme Court Justice. President Trump chose well . . . .

A disgusting act of political hypocrisy by a dying political party.
I see it as democracy in action. A United States President, elected by the people, exercising the power given to him by the office to nominate Supreme Court Justices.

And a majority of United States senators confirming a nomination, by voting to confirm, or not, due to the voting in fair elections by their constituents. The people have given them that power.

Our President was elected by the people as were the members of the Senate.

The American people, those that care about who sits on the Supreme Court, have had an opportunity to vote while considering that SC vacancies will need to be filled. They have given us a Republican president and a Republican majority Senate.

And again, tonight we saw democracy in action. Our “feelings” be damned.

As it should be.

I did not watch Gorsuch and Kavanaugh sworn in, but I’m watching this one. It’s a high point in our history imo.

After the disgusting, dishonest and politically motivated character assassination attempt of Bret Kavanaugh, any characterization of this procedure by the Democrats lacks integrity.
They lied about a good man, tried to destroy his reputation and family. I really don’t care what scoundrels like Schumer think.
