Sex after hysterectomy...Just double checking

Since I’m getting a hysterectomy soon, I’m just double checking. Even though there is 100% chance of not conceiving, it’s still okay to have marital relations, right? :o
 
Ummmm… if there is 100% chance of not-conceiving, then (if I remember correctly) it is not ok to have marital relations.

If there is even a slight chance, I would then think it is ok.

You may have to wait for someone smarter than myself to answer this, but this is just from what I remember.

You remember wrong.

It is absolutely permissible to engage in normal marital relations even though the chance of conceiving is nil. This includes the elderly, the infertile, those who have had hysterectomies, AND surprise! those who intentionally and sinfully sterilized themselves.
 
Dude, I’m an old maid and even I know the answer is Yes, it is extremely okay for married people to have blessed marital union after the fact of those circumstances. You’re just happy (and a little hyper). Force yourself to relax! 😃

Ok… Just two questions then.
  1. What about the whole “open to children” statement during the Rite of Matrimony?
  2. Why don’t people just go get hysterectomies or the likes instead of being on contraceptives? A married couple is not supposed to have marital relations while using contraceptives because the option for life is not there. But this way they aren’t sinning gravely.
Also, the elderly and the infertile are not the same as hysterectomies because there is still a small chance of bringing forth life.

Would you say a woman who is already pregnant shouldn’t have sex? She can’t get pregnant again.

I’m not trying to debate. I’m just trying to better grasp and understand this area of our Faith so that I may better relay this to the people I meet in my lifetime.

And not surprisingly you’ve already been given misinformation by posting this question here. Posters on CAF will mean well but can be misinformed. You already know what the apologists on this site have to say, and you can contact the NCBC if you need further confirmation.

Now stop stressing about this and focus on the medical side of things. It sounds like you are heading towards a good resolution.

Um, someone who has had a hysterectomy including the ovaries ***is ***infertile.

All but one are saying it’s okay. I know whose opinions I can trust. 😉

Oh I’m not backing out of it that’s for sure! 👍 I just have 4-8 weeks to stew and that’s not good for someone with OCD who can’t go anywhere or do anything :o

Because many people still have questions about the Faith that need to be answered. Your simple question is one that many people have and that some people actually struggle with or totally misunderstand.
