Sex scandal -- when does it end?

The Catholic church is a very large church.
Now, google “anglican” “church” “scandals” and you’ll see that, surprise surprise, there’s a lot going on in the Anglican church.
Do the same for “lutheran”, “baptist”, “mormon”, etc.

Now do a google for “sex scandal” in “public schools”. Hey whoa howdy–stunningly FAR MORE CHILDREN have been MOLESTED in the public school system than by R.C. priests–and a lot more recently, too.

So, knowing that any church has as members both the good and the bad–saints and sinners–and knowing that any non-church group ALSO has good and bad within it–

just what point are you trying to make? It appears to me that since you joined this morning you have been all over the apologetics boards on the various threads saying basically that the church teaches false things about Mary, that it’s not a “true church”, that people within it “need to find God”. Now that’s your prerogative as an individual, to speak your opinions, but rather than play “gotcha” all over the place, why not start a thread of your own. Obviously, you have questions (and misconceptions) about the Catholic church. You could ask (if you were willing to LISTEN TO people) about the church. You could study (people have given you various sources for you to examine) and then get back to them after informing yourself.

But if all you’re here for is to give your opinion AS TRUTH and then argue all refutations, or change the topic and then argue THAT opinion, it’s going to get old REAL fast.

Dialogue has to be between two people. I’ve seen a lot of people who are willing to talk WITH you, but you have to be willing to talk WITH them–not AT them. And until you actually listen to and work with the people who are TRYING to talk WITH you, you’re not going to accomplish anything. . .IMO.

I’m sorry, but that’s not correct. SOTC is not a punishment at all! The priest does not give out punishments; he gives out penance. It is not to aid in forgiveness but to help our spiritual growth and firm our purpose of amendment to sin no more.

Once absolved by the priest acting according to Jesus who gave the power to forgive to the apostles, you are forgiven then and there. The penance is taken to help repair the wounds to my character caused by sin. It is a gift, not a punishment, a strengthening of our resolve to sin no more.

Good questions.

sorry it came out wrong i did not mean that the true church has no sinners

i take back that statement

Ok so what do you base your belief, that the Catholic Church APPEARS (your word) to have more problems than others, on?

Have you ever done any research on the problems in other Churches? If you do I think you will be quite surprised.

Really? You must know Jesus better than John - his most beloved disciple - knew him. You see, when John saw Jesus in Heaven (Revelation 1:14-17) he didn’t say “Hey, whassup J?”

No. John tells us: “When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man.” (Rev. 1:17).

Where have we seen this before? Oh yes, when Joshua beheld an angel of the Lord:
'He said, “No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the LORD.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to him, “What has my lord to say to his servant?”" Joshua 5:14.You think Jesus is a friendly playmate? Yes, Jesus has saved us from the damnation of Hell, but if you think that’s all there is to it you have a lot to learn. Unless you are in a state of grace, you better fear the Lord.

To Pray means to ASK. I sure hope you’ve never asked anyone one for anything, because man you sure are going to hell if you have. Using your logic.

sorry. sloppy of me Dhouay Rheims Bible. Yours probably has something not too changed (i hope)…

Philippians Chapter 2

He recommends them to unity and humility, and to work out their salvation with fear and trembling.

2:12. Wherefore, my dearly beloved, (as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only but much more now in my absence) with fear and trembling work out your salvation.

With fear, etc… This is against the false faith, and presumptuous security of modern sectaries.

1 John Chapter 4
4:18. Fear is not in charity: but perfect charity casteth out fear, because fear hath sin. And he that feareth is not perfected in charity.

Every church has these problems, this is not only a catholic thing.

a church that reads gods word and doesnt hide from him and doesnt judge others and make them fear god

i go to a mordern chuch a free church where all people are welcome.

im sorry to say this buit it doesnt matter how many stations of the cross you do but if you don’t ask god inyto your life you are going to hell
This is a very ignorant statement. Do you know anything about the catholic church or its faith. We read the bible at every mass and if you look at the mass, everything is straight from the bible. There is no teaching of the churchs that is contradictory to any of the bible. We don’t judge anyone but we must tell you that your church is wrong, it is the best thing we can do for you. Can you honestly say you love someone as yourself and then be unwilling to tell them they are on the wrong path? The stations of the cross is a time when you go and pray to God. Therefore it does matter how many stations of the cross you do because the more you go to the stations the more time you are spending praying to God. Now, that said, that does not mean that because someone has never gone to the stations they can’t be saved, but it helps. I would also like to say that The church is free also and everyone is welcome.

No the catholic church does not. Its just that their problems are the ones that are emphisized in the kews. If you look you can find problems in any church.

Here are some links to some bible scriptures about the Pope.

So there is a problem going to church and praying? That is amazing. It says in the bible “where ever two or three are gathered in my name there I am.” It sound as if you contradict the bible. In revelations chapers 5 and 8 it talks about the prayers to the saints.

"8 And when he had opened the book, the four living creatures, and the four and twenty ancients fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints: " Rev 5;8

"3 And another angel came, and stood before the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given to him much incense, that he should offer of the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar, which is before the throne of God. 4 And the smoke of the incense of the prayers of the saints ascended up before God from the hand of the angel. " Rev 8;3

Now since Mary is the greatest of all the saints, then I think that praying to her is fine.

Ok you need to understand that it appears you are asserting here that Catholics are NOT Christan.

Catholics are Christian. If your mother didn’t live her faith fully, that’s one thing…but that doesn’t mean Catholics aren’t Christian.

Well, many people don’t know there faith as well as they think they do.
For your info Catholics are Christians. They are the original Christians

Well, if she was raised Catholic she was always a Christian. If you really want to learn about the Catholic church (as opposed to just ranting against it), I suggest you do some serious inquiry and not just rely on whatever stories mum told you.

There are plenty of good sources (books and internet) to learn what the Catholic church truly teaches. This site (Catholic Answers) has and extensive library that offers a good start.

Blessings.

“he was a man of god but it says nothing of him being a pope”

“Pope” is as was noted above just a term or title. Through out the New Testament we see Peter acting in the role of leader of the Christians and head of the apostles. Which is in simple terms one of the responsibilities of the Pope.

“and about the sotc you can relect on the suffering yes but it is given as a punnishment during confestion and becuse of jesus we dont have to do anything to be forgiven apart from forgiving”

Punishment is not given out during Confession. You are refering to Penance. This is a simple act to show oursorrow for what we have done and our willingness to repair the relationship that has been damaged. When two people have a falling out and make up they sometimes hug. The hug is not necessary because they have already made up. But it is sign something they do to show this. Prayer is sometimes employed as penance. What better way to “hug” Christ then to reflect on the suffering and death that made it possible for you to receive forgiveness of your sin in the first place.

The penance we do here on earth is nothing compared with what God will give to us in Purgatory, for nothing can appear before God unless it is pure (Only those who are perfect as the Heavenly Father is perfect are found worthy for entry into God’s Kingdom), and we will be purified by fire. The penance we receive (and do) removes the stain of the sin, but we must still be purified of our tendancy towards sin:

Proverbs 17:3
As silver is tried by fire, and gold in the furnace: so the Lord trieth the hearts.

Zechariah 13:6-9
And they shall say to him: What are these wounds in the midst of thy hands? And he shall say: With these I was wounded in the house of them that loved me.

Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that cleaveth to me, saith the Lord of hosts: strike the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn my hand to the little ones.

And there shall be in all the earth, saith the Lord, two parts in it shall be scattered, and shall perish: but the third part shall be left therein.

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined: and I will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say: Thou art my people: and they shall say: The Lord is my God.
