I saw that too… its disturbing that is the man in charge of investigating the murder of a 9 year old girl among others.

He brought politics into it… he is the last person who should have done that.
As far as I’m concerned if he can not be any more impartial that that then he needs to step aside and let someone else take over this case. What he is doing is extremely unprofessional.

Does anyone not take Loughner’s comments seriously? I’m not naming any one typology, or anyone on this forum, but there should be times when you take seriously the comments that people make. I’m not saying that you have to agree, or accept the comments as a reflection of reality, and there are obvious exceptions, such a when you’re watching the Three Stooges. I don’t know that anything could have been done differently if more people would have taken him seriously, since we live in a somewhat free country, and he couldn’t have been arrested or detained for his comments, could he?

Personally, I think that the very fact that he made such a horribly irresponsible, inflammatory, and biased statement proves that he needs to step down, or be forcibly removed from the case. He is not impartial, and true justice needs to come.

I do think people need to take statements that show violence or suicidal thoughts more seriously. I am willing to bet though, that he spouted about violence a lot, and people simply stopped listening after a while. 😦

This guy was clearly not a “leftist”: he was anti-immigrant, anti-government, and obsessed with currency and the gold standard, and also called abortion “terrorism”: nytimes.com/2011/01/09/us/politics/09shooter.html

Don Coorough, 58, who sat two desks in front of Mr. Loughner in a poetry class last semester, described him as a “troubled young man” and “emotionally underdeveloped.” After another student read a poem about getting an abortion, Mr. Loughner compared the young woman to a “terrorist for killing the baby.”

Ah, but Miss Palin should learn that the internet never forgets:

actually the democrats crossed the Rubicon last year with a political first. For the first time in our country’s history, a political party and their political leaders tried to demonize ***Average American Citizens ***(not merely politicians of the other party, but Citizens) for daring to protest against the Obama agenda. It was a first in this country, with even the President and his White House getting in on the act. The low point was where they tried to paint the whole Tea Party movement as a bunch of racists during staged confrontations in front of the Capital the day they rammed ObamaCare through. Even Bush, for all his flaws, never went after the average American citizens that were against his policies.
I remember Obama himself saying to get into peoples faces.

Then there was the whole gun totin bible thumpers comments or whatever.

The liberals couldn’t have offended more Americans at one time if they wanted to I don’t think.

Of course this kind of political venom is worse now. All of you are proving it with every post you write. Did people think this way in the past? Probably. Did they sit in front of a computer for hours writing and reading post after post about how the “other side” is wrong and “our side” is right? No they didn’t.

Just because of the Internet alone we are exposed to way, way more of this stuff than in the past. That doesn’t even include any number of television channels (Fox, MSNBC) that simply didn’t exist in past generations.

I’m convinced that A LOT of people spend an inordinate amount of time in front of their computers and going to sites like this, or Yahoo, or their local newspaper just to write hateful comments about things they don’t like.
We didn’t realize in those days that the very people we trusted were manipulating the news. God bless the internet and talk radio (LIKE Catholic Answers) where we can find information in real-time. There have always been attempts by leaders to control the news and the message. This latest incident will have those with the most to lose from a free citizenry bringing forward the old arguments to restrict our freedoms in the guise of civility, public safety, common sense, compassion, “fairness.”

Isn’t it ironic that this lovely congresswoman read the First Amendment before her colleagues last week? Perhaps we should ALL read it and remember that what happened in Germany, Russia, Vietnam, Chile, China,Cambodia, etc. CAN happen here, if we don’t preserve our rights to free speech and an open society.

Arizona shooting suspect may be linked to white supremacist group

heraldsun.com.au/news/breaking-news/arizona-shooting-suspect-may-be-linked-to-anti-semitic-group/story-e6frf7jx-1225984713213
  • THE suspect being held over Saturday’s shooting of US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords may have links to anti-Semitic race hate group American Renaissance. An internal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) memo quoted by FOX News Channel revealed the gunman - named by the media as Jared Loughner, 22 - is “possibly linked” to American Renaissance.
Code:
The group subscribes to an ideology that is "anti-government, anti-immigration, anti -ZOG (Zionist Occupational Government), anti-Semitic," according to the DHS memo.

Giffords "is the first Jewish female elected to such a high position in the US government. She was also opposite this group's ideology when it came to immigration debate," the note said. The suspect's mother works the Pima County Board of Supervisors in Arizona, the briefing added.*

Has the forum ban been lifted on linking to Alex Jones?
Sorry, I’m new here and missed that rule. I thought the article made a good point, even though I don’t listen to Jones. I submit this to the judgment of the moderators.

Ah and the internet doesnt forget DailyKos 'Targeting" the congresswoman and putting a “bullseye” on her.

Didnt the Democrat WV Senator (Manchin) pull out a gun and shot the cap and trade bill…

I have heard the term targeting and bullseye forever.

Ridiculous, trying to blame Palin. Utter nonsense.

Is it the fault of the DailyKOS who just 3 days ago published an article Titled: "this Congresswoman is DEAD to me. "

How is being pro life just a right issue? I see on these boards all the time democrats claiming to be pro life.

Oh and that anti Jewish group has denied any link to them by the shooter. He shows up no where in their records.

Could it be that he is just a mentally unstable lunatic who committed a terrible crime?

This is the liberals version of Kristallnacht agaisnt the Tea Party and Sarah Palin.

Oh hey look, the magical balance fairy argument, that always works  And yes he was a lunatic, but you would be living in la-la land if you deny the hatred being espoused by people like Palin are affecting unstable people like this guy

Why forcibly? Put the cuffs on him, throw him into the trunk of a car and dump him on the street in front of his home? Not a good idea, I think.

As far as his duties go, he is being assisted by the Arizona Bureau of Investigation and the FBI as well. If he bungles the investigation, then you might consider voting him out of office.

Keep in mind that inflammatory statements by Sheriff Arpaio of Maricopa county, Arizona never got him into trouble.

He also said

‘If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun’

other notable quotes from the President

“Get in Their Faces!”

“I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”

“Hit Back Twice As Hard”

“We talk to these folks… so I know whose *** to kick.“

“hand to hand combat”

“It’s time to Fight for it.”

“Punish your enemies.”

“I’m itching for a fight.”

Exactly, and thank you. This man was a leftist according to his friends and acquaintences (check out his web contributions), but that does NOT mean that we should blame the left for the shooting this relatively conservative Democrat.

Gabrielle Giffords appears to have been a rising star in her party. she seems to have been a gracious, lovely, woman who genuinely wanted to serve her district and the nation. Her husband is an astonaut and a Navy pilot. Outside of her stance on abortion, she seemed to be a moderate. Her shooting was a senseless act of a “mentally unstable lunatic.” Sure, perhaps the Daily Kos’s vitriol pushed him over the edge, but, I for one, don’t want to see free speech abridged because of this.

Bingo.

I actually went to his youtube channel yesterday. They guy had some real problems. He rants about literacy, but commits several grammatical (subject verb agreement and so on) errors in his videos. What other things he does post are almost nonsensical.

I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if when the dust settles, there was no clear motive just as there is rarely a clear motive in the public shootings that happen across this nation in malls, schools, and parks. The man shot conservatives, liberals, nncoent bystanders…this wasn’t a political assassination, this was an act of violence. I believe the only political part of this was the fact that people injured or killed were political figures.

No one asked the political standing of the Columbine shooters, and I think their political motivations are about as relevant as they are in this case.

And if this shooter was not a right-winger, then surely a Republican senator can openly condemn this, right? Oh wait…

politico.com/news/stories/0111/47294.html#ixzz1AZxlE0Ks
  • A senior Republican senator, speaking anonymously in order to freely discuss the tragedy, told POLITICO that the Giffords shooting should be taken as a “cautionary tale” by Republicans.
Code:
“There is a need for some reflection here - what is too far now?” said the senator. “What was too far when Oklahoma City happened is accepted now. There’s been a desensitizing. These town halls and cable TV and talk radio, everybody’s trying to outdo each other.”*
Why is he speaking anonymously? Plenty of Democrats and the president have openly condemned this, so far the only Republican congressman who has openly condemned this act that I know of is John McCain

This is the liberals version of Kristallnacht agaisnt the Tea Party and Sarah Palin.
By saying that, you show that you haven’t the slightest idea of what Kristallnacht was.
