Pamela Geller is very confrontational and critical of Islam.
But then again, this is also true about the late Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, Bill Maher and the many militant atheists in their attitudes against Christianity.

Would it be really all that useful to brush them off as hate propagandists just on account of their hyper-criticism, and confrontational style?

Few people do at any rate. Their travel to any place they want for debates and book signings has gone very much unencumbered.

Of course when Maher started to criticize Islam, he really crossed at line in terms of his acceptability with the in-crowd.
I would love to hear an explanation on this.

Texas law enforcement 2. Jihadis 0.

Rumors are that Texas law enforcement agencies will soon begin training French law enforcement on how to handle such incidents. 😃

Story on the Garland PD officer that took out the two terrorists. He is 60 years old, a veteran LEO of many years, and very well trained. As a rule Texas law enforcement officers are well trained, but Garland PD sets the bar way high. Don’t mess around in Garland. They are serious about what they do.

A trained, motivated officer took on two men armed with rifles, possibly wearing body armor. Controlled, aimed fire, while moving. Excellent job.

The two terrorists got what they deserved. It does not matter what their reasoning was, it was founded in evil. Good men confront evil and destroy it.

Fighting to make people aware of the plight of Christians and other minorities in the Middle East via conventions, assemblies/protests, schools, the Internet. . . etc.

There are many things we can do that would prove to society that we are in the right, I just don’t believe holding Mohammed cartoon contests is the best way to show that we are. At worst, people will think us hateful, has as already been demonstrated in this thread.

p.s. Although there will always be those who will think us hateful no matter what we do, but it is not these people that we are trying to convince.
What, exactly, does making people “aware” of an issue do?

I am aware of the evils of the heresy of Islam, just as I am aware that breast cancer killed my mother and mother-in-law. Yet both are still present in the world.

dfw.cbslocal.com/2015/05/07/fbi-warned-garland-police-before-attack/

FBI warned of the attack to the Garland Police now it is being shown 3 hours before.

A lot of people have made these remarks about Paris, it’s braggadoccio and that’s okay but no one is going to convince me that Paris has a higher murder rate than certainly parts of the DFW complex. Sometimes, 7-Elevens get knocked over frequently and Dallas a few years ago, was even in the news about their being a high number of murders.

All the pro-gun types bring this out, I’m not for gun control but I am for fairness.

Braggadoccio?

It was humor.

One is a natural enemy (breast cancer) that man is striving to erradicate. The other is a human/evil soul cancer that man will eradicate when free people take action.

Indeed. But what does the effort to make people “aware” - dare I say it - “raising their awareness” - do to effect any substantive change?

Who was more wrong, in your opinion, the group that organized the show or the men who planned to kill them?

Peace

Tim
Both but of course but the ones who sought to kill all those people in my opinon --have the greatest sin-- The people who started this contest where just plain ignorant, naive and arrogant.
There is a great number of people who live in the USA who are Muslim or are converting right now. Here is statistics from the USA embassy link regarding this reality. iraq.usembassy.gov/resources/information/current/american/statistical.html

So, if Christian terrorists bombed a movie theater showing an irreverent motion picture towards Christianity, you’d claim the movie-makers were responsible too for what happened?

Of course – we are responsible for our actions, for what we do, etc If someone in the artistic world makes something that pokes fun, blasphemes ones religion, yes, they too will hold some type of responsibility for their actions and intentions – but that will be up to God to judge.

There are many Christians and Muslims alike that would not dream of making sport by denigrating other religions Holy symbols, objects, or people, yet I cannot claim not to have had a few childish moments at another person or groups expense. It was wrong, but I should not be shot for it, and neither should anyone else. [cartoonists]

That being said, I think that what is going on here is that the common man sometimes feels powerless to release anger at the injustices perpetrated on others by groups like ISIS. Burning people up in cages, the butchering of Christians, Shiites, and others. Perhaps drawing a cartoon is harmless way for them to release some steam? There are worse things. I am not defending these cartoonists, just trying to understand.

It hurts me to see our Holy objects and images defaced, but I am a big boy, I can take it. This IS America however, and Sharia law does not apply here. If they can’t take the heat like the rest of us do, they need to pick another kitchen.

There is no insult in portraying Mohammed visually. Like Sunday shopping, this is a discipline that Muslims are free to abstain from, but it is not denigrating either Mohammed or Islam for others to portray Mohammed visually in film, or in any of the visual arts.
Traditionally, Judaism and Islam have not portrayed the human form whatsoever in art. Even this is no longer true, with and the photos on facebook and other media knows no such religious bans.

Being “aware”, absorbing facts and information, is fundamental knowledge. When people are kept ignorant - …well there’s the answer.

Freedom of speech is fundamental to being “aware”. Those who are wringing their hands and decrying a “horrible, terrible” cartoon contest have not been made aware on many levels regarding freedom.

Cartoons are an art form of literature. These drawings have been a part of teaching since the cavemen wrote on the rocks! Even graffiti is an expression of this.

Most of the hoopla expressed vilifying this cartoon contest is by design enhancing the cause of the enemy in an effort to use sympathy for radical Islamic terrorists.

So, is fundamental knowledge really an answer? Yes, I can know about some thing, sit on my couch, and bask in my awareness. But what does such knowledge accomplish, other than stroking the ego?

At what point does the pride of accomplished awareness transition to what might be called fundamental action?

You are 100% correct, you should not be shot for it. However don’t be surprised when actions based on hate, even if they are childish, incites more hate and resulting in unintended consequences.

I would be surprised if it was Buddhists or Christians or Taoists or Jews that would be shooting and uttering death threats, if they were the objects of childish antics.

Nobody is surprised when it is Islam though.

Again to reiterate,

Theo Van Gogh was slain for producing a short movie critical of the treatment of women in Islan, sounds like a documentary.

In a recent honor killing, the daughter was killed along with her husband because she converted to Christianity.

I think one thing Geller and others are getting at, is we are having a bit of a de facto Sharia Law imposed on us with this process.

It’s a bit beyond just making an objectionable cartoon.

Here was this Danish cartoonist where his cartoons seemed to be pivotal in this matter. Actually, I don’t see his cartoons as objectionable.

If you were responding to my post please read what I wrote. If you incite hate be prepared for unintended consequences.

Do you think women should all wear birkas as well if some Muslims see that Western clothes as inciting hate or disrespectful of Islam? Perhaps all persons convert to Islam as well?

That’s the deal, it is imposing their values, their law on us.
