There’s a huge difference between judging someone’s choices and judging someone’s soul.
If the hem of the dress barely falls below the buttocks then it’s inappropriate for anything, especially Mass, Divine Liturgy. When a woman takes the appropriate bow in the middle of the isle, up front and the skirt pulls up there is a problem. O
Now that I think of it, even when I wear a skirt that falls right on the knee, I feel awkward doing a bona fide genuflect. I have a feeling that if a server was staring down the aisle, they would get a glimpse. 🤷

When a woman takes the appropriate bow in the middle of the isle, up front and the skirt pulls up there is a problem. Our pastor has turned red in the face with anger several times since our conversion to Catholicism. Women dress inappropriately at our previous faith’s churches are not asked, but told to leave. As a category of people, Catholics seem so permissive to allow inappropriate behavior from my experience that I have very little faith that they’ll do the right things. It’s like a bunch of over grown teeny boppers, defiant of a beautifully arranged Church that Christ established. Now, 50 years ago, this was not true. But the Catholics that buy into the blessing theology and look at me attitudes seem to have thrown Christ out of the worship, including their lives. That’s a judgement, not a judgement on their salvation. Only God can do that.

So, my opinion of women that flaunt their booty and everything else in front of a thousand people, including children have much to contemplate on. Lecterns are clearly trained and given the proper dress code for serving. When they wear in appropriate clothing, they’ve clearly chosen to not obey Father, and therefore the bishop and the Church authority.
You appear to have a problem with women to speak of them in such a manner. Your parish church seems to have an abundance of permissive female parishners out to seduce men or is it that you see sin everywhere?

The one thing I had a hard time getting out of my mind was the women wearing a veil on her head…in a mini skirt. It made me wonder…she needs to cover up her hair but not her 😊

Having said that…why is a lot of this thread directed at women? Shorts or not, I’ve seen some pretty sloppy dressed men…

No, that’s not the case. It’s a viewpoint I hold that I hope to lose. Coming from my background, women would never do such things. My family is very conservative. It’s just the select ones that seem to want attention.

Here’s a photo of just one example of some women attending mass.

Though they are cute, they are not appropriate for mass. I threw all of my wife’s short skirts away because I was embarrassed to attend church with her. I replaced them with skirts that went down to her ankles. But it was the style of the time. They were Ralph Lauren and very classy.

I believe that some of the women that went to the podium to read were ignorant of how they looked. But I noticed that after father’s reaction they stopped. There is a woman, beautiful, that dresses cute, but also inappropriate for distributing communion. I noticed her cleaning up her act as well. Our bishop is tightening down and father has always done his best to keep it G rated.

I’m serious, when some of those women bent over you could see right through their legs. Some of the dresses are not opaque enough. I witness one woman do the hoochy coo with our associate pastor once. I nearly croaked. It was way over the top and animated with her arms above her head as she swung her hips back and forth like a go-go dancer. My wife was also offended by it.

I just don’t appreciate narcissistic women that try to draw attention with their bodies. Such women are the types I teach my son’s to avoid.

Hoochy coo? (I had to look that up). Are you saying she did this at mass?

Jack, I hate to say it but you are starting to sound like a hater of women.

Knee length skirts don’t bother me. I doubt they can see. I’m talking about skirts that fall right at or right below the buttocks. I posted a couple of examples of the length of skirts that I’ve seen go forward. Imagine a cathedral style church with the open middle isle. Then place a woman between the rail and the front pews. The woman bows, while everyone is sitting, already at “that height”. If I was a pervert, it’d be a trip. I turn my head. My mind does the rest. I try not to think. But it’s already hard enough, and Satan loves to temp people in the pews. It’s about distraction. We joke about it, but it is simply offensive. It’s more offensive after Father’s made a point of correcting people in a news letter or follow up training. The offense is the lack of respect for the priest’s authority.

I think the way people dress for mass these days has to do with catechism. Belief in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist is not held by everyone who shows up for mass. Perhaps if more people truly believed in the real presence, the attire they wore to church would change.
Aaaand we’re back to “if you don’t dress with my definition of ‘well’ you’re a bad Catholic”.
Now, dressing up for employers might be respectful to them, or maybe just to the power they might wield over us.
Or just to be a brown-noser.
Shorts, bare arms, bare shoulders and such is inappropiate.
You can’t mean bare arms as in a t-shirt, can you? That’s like everyone who goes to Mass here.

Hoochy coo? What in the world are you talking about.

No. I do not hate women. I’m conservative. If you knew my experiences with women sticking their stuff in my face, including when I was a seminarian, you might understand. Girls and women used to flirt with me, see if they could tempt me by drawing my eyes towards them. Not in my head either. We’re talking about shorts in mass. But we took it to skirts because skirts are open on the bottom. The number of women doing this is not really that bad. But what gets under my skin is people defending their behavior. I have a step sister that tried to draw my eyes towards her. That offended me. I never told anyone. But my wife saw it when we visited. She is no longer welcome in my stepmother’s home.

I understand young girls innocently falling prey to what’s in vogue. But grown women? That’s where I have a problem. Catholic women don’t like me if they are immodest. And since I don’t care what they think, I mind my own business and turn my head, while shutting my mouth. Father gets other women to correct some of those women.

Hoochy coo? That’s old fashioned terms for wiggling one’s hips profusely. We still joke about it.

You must be extremely handsome.

I’m going to have to agree with Annabelle and say that it is not only women that we should focus on.

This isn’t helpful either. :o

That’s not impression I attempted to portray. I’ve never considered myself to look very good. I have that average guy look. Nothing special. One of the guys in these photos is me.

You mean you don’t look like Jack Bauer?😃

I never meant to focus only on women. There are guys, men that show up in dresses too. But I though I clarified who they are already and why they wear them.:D.

As a seminarian, he could have been dog-ugly and there are girls that would have gotten a kick out of trying to embarrass him just because he was a seminarian.
That’s exactly right. I would give stories but I know the girls have grown up to be respected women and married to another former seminarian, much better looking. So, from my perspective, they were always making fun of me.

If I was a pastor of a parish I would find a supplier for cheap, utilitarian grey albs. Readers, EMsHC, cantors, and choir members would wear them with ZERO adornment and proper shoes else they would no longer be readers, EMsHC, cantors, and choir members. Servers would wear white albs ofr the cassock/surplice combo. 👍

I wonder how many would drop out of ministry just because of this requirement?

I think you’re on to something.
