Should all parishes have the latin mass

I personally say we should have an English version of the Tridentine, but using a Latin one on occasion; perhaps for certain feast days or holy days?
My sentiments exactly. I don’t like the OF mass. There’s too much room for liturgical abuse in it and the EF is just so much more appealing to the soul. The Novus Ordo mass should be changed into an English version of the Tridentine mass and the Latin version of the mass should be more promoted.

Gregorian chant > awful guitar music 👍

I hope that eventually the Novus Ordo, through better translations and more ad orientam Masses, will gradually change to be so close to the Traditional Mass that people will see having it unnecessary and then the whole Latin rite will just change to having one Mass----> the Tridentine Mass.
Ain’t going to happen.

We should be having Latin in EVERY Mass, so of course every church should have Latin!

The Latin Mass was NOT “ripped away”. It was done away with after very careful consideration,. and was done away with because the vast majority of the Laity did not understand it, got very little from it, and it was not very worshipfu for the vast majority of the people. I would STRONGLY recommend that you read the actual discussion and documentation about the change to the vernacular, instead of attempting to cram YOUR prejudices down everyones throats…

I can’t believe that anyone would advocate for Priests to celebrate a Mass that they did not comprehend. That’s like saying you should pray in a manner that you don’t understand.

As to age being a factor, I strongly suspect that this is just another way of rebelling against authority.
No, the Latin Mass WAS “ripped away”. It was never supposed to be “done away with”. There was never any intention in Vatican II to completely strip away all Latin from the Mass–in fact, the council documents say exactly the opposite of what you are claiming. They say the Latin and Gregorian chant should remain in the Mass–given “pride of place” above other forms. The fact that Latin and chant is near impossible to find these days means exactly that it has been “ripped away” from us.

Many people don’t like hearing that contraception is wrong either. Should we stop with that teaching just because people don’t agree with it or understand it?

In Christ,
Rand

If the people want it, then yes. If they don’t, then no. The Mass is the Mass. There is nothing superior about the EF or the OF. And as much as I love the Latin Mass, I like being able to fully comprehend (at least to the best of my ability) what is going on during the Liturgy.

I understand that some people prefer the EF of the Mass. And I have no desire to see it done away with at all, even though I don’t attend it. But it sadens me greatly when I see sentiments like this above. I have a special spot in my soul for the OF. It’s where I decided to come back to the Church after all these years. My grandma was as traditional as they come…but sadly she missed the big picture…like sharing her faith with her grandkids or children:( In my parish there are places where they put Latin in and some chanting…particularly at the early Mass where people appreciate it more. The OF is more appealing to my soul because its the birthplace of my love for the Church.

If by saying that the same Transustantiation occurs, you would be right, neither is superior. Although the Tridentine Mass was and still is the organic Traditions of the Catholic Church from the days of Mass in the catacombs (at least for Latin Rite Catholics). However Novus Ordo was a “breach” (for lack of a better word) in the Liturgical Tradition of the Mass. Just to be clear though I believe both to be valid and licit.

I disagree here. The OF, in its intended form is just as organic as the TLM. I don’t understand why so many traditionalists treat the TLM like its the be all and end all of worship. Our eastern brothers and sisters have been getting along fine without it for years and have remained relatively intact and don’t have crazy schismatics that have resulted thanks to the hardcore trads in the latin rite…

Maybe because the Novus Ordo was created from the Consilium, headed by Abp. Bugnini, while the Traditional Latin Mass was handed down through the generations.

“If anyone saith…that the Mass ought to be celebrated in the vulgar tongue only let him be an anathema.” Council of Trent, Session 22, Canon 9 (Sept 17, 1562)

Damien Thompson: “So would the Pope like to see many ordinary parishes making provision for the Gregorian Rite?”

Cardinal Hoyos:
“All the parishes, not many — all the parishes, because this is a gift of God. He offers these riches, and it is very important for new generations to know the past of the Church. This kind of worship is so noble, so beautiful — the deepest theologians’ way to express our faith. The worship, the music, the architecture, the painting, makes a whole that is a treasure. The Holy Father is willing to offer to all the people this possibility, not only for the few groups who demand it but so that everybody knows this way of celebrating the Eucharist in the Catholic Church.”

We can all have opinions, but if we are to harp on obedience… 🤷

Note how I said “At least for Latin Rite Catholics”. Of course our Eastern brethren have gotten along just fine without the Tridentine Mass because the Divine Liturgy is the liturgical equivalent of the Tridentine Mass for Eastern Rite Catholics and Orthodox. Both the Tridentine Mass and the Divine Liturgy are organic developments of the SAME traditions of the early Christian Masses. No Traditionalist who actually understands the origins of the Mass would argue this and would despise the thought that the Eastern Rite Catholics shuold use the Tridentine Mass. The OF Mass is different though, again I believe that it is perfectly valid and licit (when performed by a Catholic priest) but it is not the organic development of the traditions of the early Christians. It was formulated by Cardinal Bugnini with the contributions of protestants with the intention of “removing even the shadow of a stumbling block” from our “seperated brethren” the protestants. In removing these shadows of “stumbling blocks” those Catholic traditions were also removed.

I have a question?

Why can’t those that prefer the EF just simply prefer it…

And those that prefer the OF just simply prefer that?

It seems like I hear so many times about how the OF is just ripe for abuse or it’s not as worshipful to God…and on and on. They are both valid Masses so why can’t people leave it at that? It just becomes very disheartning…

The question was if it should be offered in every parish not which is better. With Novus Ordo, all parishes offer it whereas only a few offer the Tridentine Mass. For example here in NL, I have to attend a NO Mass most of the time and only occasionally a Tridentine Mass. Alot of the time traditionalists do not have much of an option.

Even though I hope one day for a complete return to the Latin Mass, it just wouldn’t work right now if it was re-introduced in every parish. We’d still have the abuses we have now and their wouldn’t be an instantaneous change.
A more reasonable approach would be to have the Latin Mass in 10 pct of the parishes of the world, and then pursue a policy of Latinization from there.

I get that…but most of the answers…several of which have been deleted…explain why we should ONLY have Latin Mass and how the NO is full of abuse. This is not the first thread like this.

The problem I see with having a TLM in every parish is the shortage of priests…at least the ones out here. When you have several parishes sharing one priest or one parish/one priest with mostly full Sunday Masses…I’m not sure where you would fit one in. But I know that in my town, most of the parishes could not fit one in. However there is one parish that has several priests…why they don’t offer one I don’t know. They do offer a Latin NO Mass one Sunday a month.

Well we have Chinese here. And we have a pretty luxurious cathedral with 4 altars. The original one is now used for daily mass, the largest one in the centre for sunday mass, the first “one-way” altar is now used for Eucharist Adoration, and the other “one-way” altar is no longer in use.

Since we use Chinese, no one would actually be bothered to study latin altogether and etc. and it shouldn’t come to a surprise too se that there are no EF masses. That being said, I’d love to attend an EF mass if possible (NO is more comprehensible for us though, have have to admit it).

I don’t really know how a EF mass works, but I think it requires a “one-way” altar, which not every parish has? Yeah no EF for them.
