Should Drugs Be Legalized?

I was just tying to emphasize the fact that what you were saying was obviously wrong.

Actually it makes perfect sense. More drug users = more money available for addiction treatment, and effective resistance education. As the numbers decrease, there is less money and also less addicts that need treatment.

1st there is no effective resisitance education. Let’s get that straight. If you don’t have addicts you don’t need to treat them.

Lets also not forget that there will always be responsible users of drugs like marijuana that are supporting the system, just as there are responsible users in the Netherlands. The goal should be to change the culture around us rather than spend tons of money to force people to do things by ruining lives.

There is no such thing as a responsible marijuana user. So don’t say that again. The Netherlands has nothing to do with the US. You can’t change a stoner culture.

Let us also not forget the billions we are spending on the “war on drugs” that is not doing anything to help cut back on use that could be used for education. The better educated our children are, the less they are going to use drugs.

You are living in a dream world where you just tell people something is wrong so they stop doing it. I know people who started using marijuana when they were 6 years old. When they start at 6 how are you going to educate them.
The billions spent of drug wars would no longer be needed if everyone stops using.

Ehm No. Whitacre_girl is right. I’m sure we can legislate a law that locks up major drug dealers for life, thus preventing them from harming society. This fits the Catechism better than killing them.

We are never going stop the drug trade by being sissies. We have to be tougher than they are. Criminals understand what deterant means. If one of their people steals they kill him. It works.

The ends don’t justify the means.

The rule doesn’t apply to culture as a whole, but each individual case. THere IS a way to stop drug dealers without depriving them of the life God gave them. To kill them when there is another way to stop the crime is murder.

It’s like a man beating on a woman. You can either go over there and pull him off her, or you can shoot him in the face. If you can stop him using non-lethal force you are required to do so. if you make no effort to stop him, and just shoot him, you have murdered him in the eyes of the church.

When you go on vacation and someone breaks in your home and steals every thing you own you’ll be saying, “Why doesn’t someone stop this stealing.” Then the cops will say, “We need better education.” Then you’ll be happy and all fuzzy and warm inside.

Do you have evidence to back that up? Can you imagine every possible curriculum out there and say definitively that they are all wrong? There is effective education. It just either isn’t being used or hasn’t been created yet. We need to research that.

You’re language trying to tell me what I can and cannot say isn’t making this for a civil discussion.

There are responsible users. School teachers, doctors, principals, tech guys, programmers, even politicians. There are millions out there who lead healthy and successful lives who ocassionaly smoke pot. Again, look at the Netherlands. There are multiple examples.

THERE ARE RESPONSIBLE USERS (and I’ll say it as much as I want!) ignoring the truth doesn’t make it go away

1. A dream world? Again, read my posts. I am not saying all we have to do is tell them to stop. I am talking about education curriculum and reform that builds our children up to be adults who don’t need to turn to drugs to fill the holes in their lives with substances - legal or otherwise. I am talking about education that is effective, reaches every student, and gives them hope and a future.
2. How on earth were they using pot at six?!??!! What kind of parent allows a SIX year old to smoke pot, or gives them the privacy to allow that? There are so many things wrong there that drug use is hardly the issue. As an educator, if I heard of a 6 year old smoking weed I would be on the horn with CPS for neglect and even possible abuse.

Education isn’t the answer with a 6 year old, calling the cops on the parents is. There is clearly neglect at best, abuse at worst.

No, I would be upset. But if someone broke into my home and I found out someone killed the man instead of incapactitating him without deadly force I would be very angry at the theft of his God-given right to life.

I can point to at least the last 20 years of education failing. How’s that?

I don’t know about you but I’m not going to a doctor who is a stoner. Principals? No wonder the public schools are the most dangerous place to send a child.
Politicians? No wonder our country is so screwed up.

Again the Netherlands is irrelevant to this discussion so stop bringing it up.

It goes on generation after generation. When will we have the guts to actually do something that works?

I going to bed now so I can get up in the morning and deal with all the stoners and junkies I’m trying to educate and send to treatment. Believe it or not I know what I’m talking about. I’ve seen too many dead kids to be nice about it anymore.
