Should I be friends with homosexuals?

I would say unless they are trying to pick you up then just continue to be their friend.
An opportunity may present itself where you can help guide them back.

Knowing people that are homosexual would be no problem. Treat all with human dignity. One thing you do not do though. You do not join gay pride marches and fight for their right to do whatever. That lays their sin at your feet.
Its one thing to say this, but to live it is something else. I have a handful of friends from high school that are now gay (4 out of 5 were not gay in high school). I still message with them occasionally and they are FB friends, but I have noticed they expect all their friends to support their lifestyle and Im not referring to simply being gay, Im talking about living a gay life, living together with their ‘partner’, and in one case, 2 gay females adopted a young girl.

Whenever there is any kind of ‘anti-gay’ statements in the news, I read thru my friends comments, it is astonishing how all their friends support gay marriage, engaging in gay sex, etc, in fact Id say its impossible to continue to be friends if one did not support their lifestyle.

Someone commented on the old-bible passage that modernists and relativists love, “Don’t judge.” Well to this I would say this bible passage deals with the fact that we are not supposed to judge someone’s eternal fate, meaning we don’t judge their heart to see if they have full knowledge of the gravity of the sin and we don’t judge if that person has full consent of the will (maybe they commit homosexuality out of some psychological problem or out of fear or pressure). But we should judge whether a sin is objectively grave matter, which homosexuality is a grave matter and shouldn’t be taken lightly. I am so glad I was somehow spared from this sin.

Below is a scripture verse from the New Testament on homosexuality from Romans. Read it, it says that those who that those who commit the sin of homosexuality deserve a spiritual death (i.e. hell) and not only those who do them, but also those who approve of them. Even the very sin of homosexuality was sent to these people as punishment from God for not worshiping God, giving honor and thanks to Him, and turned instead to the worship of the creature through lust.

Romans:
18
  • The wrath* of God* is indeed being revealed from heaven against every impiety and wickednessp of those who suppress the truth by their wickedness.
    19
For what can be known about God is evident to them, because God made it evident to them.q
    20
    Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made.r As a result, they have no excuse;
    21
for although they knew God they did not accord him glory as God or give him thanks. Instead, they became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless minds were darkened.s
    22
While claiming to be wise,t they became fools
    23
and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for the likeness of an image of mortal man or of birds or of four-legged animals or of snakes.u
    24
Therefore, God handed them over to impurity through the lusts of their hearts* for the mutual degradation of their bodies.v
    25
They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and revered and worshiped the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.w
    26
Therefore, God handed them over to degrading passions. Their females exchanged natural relations for unnatural,
    27
and the males likewise gave up natural relations with females and burned with lust for one another. Males did shameful things with males and thus received in their own persons the due penalty for their perversity.x
    28
And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God handed them over to their undiscerning mind to do what is improper.
    29
y They are filled with every form of wickedness, evil, greed, and malice; full of envy, murder, rivalry, treachery, and spite. They are gossips
    30
and scandalmongers and they hate God. They are insolent, haughty, boastful, ingenious in their wickedness, and rebellious toward their parents.
    31
They are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.
    32
Although they know the just decree of God that all who practice such things deserve death, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.z

My faith is definitely not in the closet. I had the majority of these friends since I was 8 years old. I went to a public high school. My old friends never told me they were bi-sexual until recently cause they knew how I felt about it. I honestly don’t know why though, even many of my friends in college and at work have been bi-sexual. When I was in college my nick name was “fag-mag” because all the homosexuals used to gravitate toward me. I am a very Catholic guy, I think they must be drawn to me because I used to be good looking and I am real nice guy. So yes, homosexuals love me, but they don’t love my Catholicism though.
lol…“used to be good looking” 😛 something happened huh. Well as for myself I don’t just go around telling everyone I am Catholic. I know one person I knew that I had a confession outside of a restaurant once. So I guess I’m not hiding it. And the few gay people I know who have told me I say nothing bad to them. People are what they are. God is the better judge as to the issues they have. And all sin is against him, and ultimately forgiven by him. I would if they come onto you, let them know your not interested and there should be no problem.

🙂

I don’t understand why you think the “sin” of homosexuality is worse than the sin of fornication.
Being a homosexual is not a sin. Having homosexual sex, or any sex, outside of the bonds of marriage is the sin.

Do you treat people who are not married, but living together with the same disdain?
How about people who have multiple sex partners, of the opposite sex?
Or is it just gay sex that you have a problem with?

It is my firm belief that many people who put this sin of homosexuality on a pedestal as an example of the worst sin ever are probably battling some inner demons related to their own sexuality. Maybe you should look into your reasons why you take the stand you do.

Indeed. It’s grave matter. And a sin of the flesh as are many things. They can be the hardest to deal with. I have my own fleshly issues, not homosexuality but otherwise. The way I understand we are to see venial and grave matter. And also the OP doesn’t know what culpability either this person has.

So if you have already made up your mind not to be friends with those who practice homosexuality why ask the question/even start the thread.

I submit to you that possibly you may subconsciously feel that cutting ties is wrong, it may be that you feel guilty about the way you have treated these people. Maybe?

From the OP of this topic I predict the answer will be “The Bible doesn’t list fornication among the sins crying out to heaven for vengeance, so God Himself sees homosexual sins, as a worse sin than heterosexual sexual sins”.

And I assume the OP wouldn’t want to be friends with murderers either.

But then we get to the other two sins, defrauding workers and oppressing the poor. Now, alright, maybe none of the OP’s friends are in a position to do this. But I get the feeling that if the majority of gays are going to hell based on this passage, then a majority of heterosexual capitalists will be joining them.

ETA: I am NOT stating all capitalists are personally guilty of defrauding workers or oppressing the poor, or that capitalism is inherently oppressive of the poor. However, I do suspect there are just as many people who are guilty of those sins, as there are those guilty of homosexual sins.

Lol! You guys are really funny. Anyways, if someone has fornication (heterosexual sex), well I disdain that too. And no, I don’t have any problem with my sexual identity, as someone mentioned, it is just that homosexual sex is evil so the people who do this could possibly be evil, God is going to severely judge these people and I don’t want to be anywhere near these people when God strikes vengeance from heaven on them. God’s judgement is scary, so no, I am not going to be their buddy. Yes, I wouldn’t want to hang out with murders either, since it is on the list of the Sins Crying to Heaven for Vengeance. If you hang out with murderers you yourself could get murdered or end up having their demons. Also on the list Defrauding Laborers their Wages, this actually happened to me before by my Dad, he didn’t pay me for a year working for him. He is my Dad, so I have to hang out with him. Otherwise, I too wouldn’t hang out with him either. I have a very close family member, who used to have homosexual sex, but he is repentant, so I see no problem with that. I am extremely sympathetic to those who fall into this sin, honestly my heart goes out to them. I understand the weakness of man, and the horrible state of our society because of the sexual revolution and relativism and modernism. People have lost their bearings. But, that being said homosexual sex is evil, and I don’t want to have anything to do with people who practice evil, unrepentant. I ultimately don’t know if the people who do this sin are evil, I can’t judge their hearts, but the sin is evil. And that being said, the sexual revolution that lead to sexual promiscuity is evil too. People lost their sense of right and wrong.

I would not be friends with them.

First, I was open minded years ago and we had a homosexual at work. He was from the Midwest and he had a “partner”. Sure they were fun, easygoing, and pleasant to be around. Then one day, they told me they just didn’t like my “style” and stopped hanging out . Not only that, but they were gossipy and had many coworkers alienate me. So much that the area manager had to be called in from out of state to settle it.

Second, about six years later, we got a lesbian coworker. She was affable, smart, and easy to talk to. This was during the Myspace days, and she befriended me and sent one of those obnoxious quizzes with 100 questions about yourself on it. It asked SJW issues like the death penalty or abortion. When it came to gay marriage/adoption, I simply answered “no”. Next thing I know she arranged a meeting with the general manager of the store and showed him the quiz and demanded I be transferred because I was violating her rights, freedoms, etc. I told her that I had a different view but it wouldn’t impact how I act towards her. Her response was pure hate, almost vile.

So I’ve had two experiences, gave these people two chances…and. got burned.

If you adhere to your claim that being gay is = to being a murderer then you are well outside what the Church teaches.

These people want “equal rights”. I am still wondering what that means. As far as “feel-goodism” theory. In practical terms, they want the rights to start trouble in the courts. And to get anywhere there the law must be perverted.

Hang out. Humm. That’s one that I have never been able to figure out about people. Hang out or around sounds to me like “wondering about aimlessly. Nothing to do and no where to go.” I myself don’t “hang out”. In this life you will find you will have very few friends. Real friends. One, if your very fortunate maybe two at the most. The rest are there with “masks”. I never hang out. I will go out and socialize with people if I am in that kinda place. But it stops there. People will be surprised. If you have nothing to do and are unhappy, when you go somewhere and have something to do. You will be unhappy, only doing things. It’s best to be content where you are IMO. “My peace I have I give to you.”

I use the term “hang out” because it generalized normal social activities without listing them endlessly…going to films, restaurants, concerts, etc.

Oh I see. 🙂 Going to films would be private. I would really have to know someone myself. Restaurants, concerts…that might be ok. Riding around in a car for example. That’s what started a lot of this dating thing. of course no one mentioned dating 🙂

There were sinners in that group. They’re desire to sin changes because of His influence, and it didn’t work in every case. Judas did betray Him.
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of the Lord. I think you miss the point of the post I replied to. “Go and sin no more” was what He said to those He healed. While the Apostles were not perfect I think we can differentiate them from the general population of that era.

In response to your replies, I know God loves the homosexual people. And yes, I understand Jesus ate with the sinners. He spoke with the woman at well, and told her her sin. I do the same, I however am not going to be friends with the people who are not going to repent after my repeated tries. So no, I am not friends with them any longer. I don’t see the need to be friends with them if they don’t convert and repent. I will always be there for them when they do have a conversion.

And yes, I do treat other sins the same that are in the category of the four grave sins I listed and many other grave sins. I sure as heck am not going to hang out with a murderer, or a miser who doesn’t pay the worker his due wages. The homosexual sin is objectively evil. I am not going to hang out with people who do evil. I have learned the hard way that evil people have really evil spirits and I don’t want these evil spirits attacking me. Plus, the saints didn’t hang out with bad company. St. Louis de Montfort said that and so did St. Thomas Aquinas.

Here are some bible verses on the topic, 👍
1 Cor. 15:33, “Do not be deceived bad company ruins good morals.”
This bible verse speaks clearly, we are not to be in bad company.

1 John 3:7-8, “Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”

Ps. 1:1-6, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; …”

Proverbs 12:26, “One who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.”

2 Cor. 6:14, “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”

:p:p I am a weak sinner, if I hang out with the ungodly, I soon will be practicing their ways. Wake up Catholics, you can’t risk your soul trying to save others.
Generally you don’t have to un-friend them. If you don’t buy into their homosexual belief system, they will want nothing to do with you.

It is my firm belief that many people who put this sin of homosexuality on a pedestal as an example of the worst sin ever are probably battling some inner demons related to their own sexuality. Maybe you should look into your reasons why you take the stand you do.
This trite meme is really quite shameful and rude. It’s no more than a shoutdown tactic.
