Talk to vendors who sell to Army commissaries. Ask them what “reset day” means.

It means the vendors not only stock the shelves, but periodically, they strip the shelves down and re-set them. Standar business practice.
There are number of supermarkets around here that have the milk, cheese, butter, etc. entirely managed by the supplying dairies. That way the dairies have better control over product expiration, more accurate batch management, and the ability to respond quickly and effectively in the event of product recall. The supermarkets benefit greatly from lower internal cost even though individual supplier price may be higher.

If the “hardworking people” made the company a success, the take over would never have occurred.
Where’s your evidence that** most **disparities within a capitalistic system is caused by variance in work ethic / effort? Of course, some disparities is indeed caused by that.

Ah, attacking an argument I haven’t made, eh?

My argument is that those who espouse the politics of envy, attacking others who are more successful than themselves, do so because they are unwilling to work to their full potential.

Envy, one retort of the conservative…

Yes, envy inhibits objective thinking about social justice and unfortunately, it is a characteristic in *Homo sapiens *that evolved in the African savannah when their progenitors had a lower EQ.

I prefer a utilitarian or distributive justice approach to social justice, not something based on “traditional moral values.”

I am questioning the assumption that most people are free from akrasia and a neo-Cartesian dualism that the mind can somehow transcend the limits its genes imposed on it without any significant technological help (e.g. ampakines, racetams, modafinil, etc. are pharmaceutical means).

I do think that the envy accusation is too often brought up. How do we know that someone is envious? When Warren Buffett criticizes our current system of executive compensation, is it because he is envious? The question is, how would we know?

If other people’s minds cannot transcent the limits opposed by genes, neither can yours.

And specifically, you cannot know better that people who actually run businesses how their businesses should be run.

So as I have said before, you are perfectly free to start your own business and run it according to your ideas – let us know how you make out.😛

Ah, the old post-modernist argument, how can we reeeely know?😉

Here’s a hint – Warren Buffet isn’t on this thread. The people who are on this thread include people who have run businesses and people who haven’t. Follow the thread and see what the breakdown is.😃

To make accusations when you don’t have all the facts is just sloppy thinking. Of course, the business owners on this thread are not imune from sloppy thinking.

I thought you know more about economics than most of us here. Wouldn’t the capital costs for starting a business be too high for most people to defray?

In an extreme example, if I wanted to start a company that sells oncology products, I have to pay scientists, a laboratory, and equipment for testing and high throughput screening. Next, I should have an enormous amount of money to test whatever compound I have in humans.

Do you think anyone here is “free” to start that business?

I started my business out of my upstairs bedoroom. Ewing Kaufman(marion laboratories) started his businees in his basement, bill gates started in his garage. its not the capital that keeps people from starting their own business- its the leap of faith one has to make to walk away from a paying job.And having made that leap and suceeding it is quite bothersome that people who are afraid to take those chances want to restrict the way i do business.

Or you could to work for a company, build up some good contact and attract investors.

I started mine in my kitchen.

Also build interest from others, network at large in the industry and related fields, and like you say, maintain lots of contacts with others in the field. Get to know people personally.

And most of all do something you ENJOY!

When it comes to the morality of business decisions, I don’t think business owners have a monopoly on the truth. Now, I think business owners can provide useful information on the problem, but their perspective is often limited to their own particular situation, which may not be generalizable.

For example, you claimed that the overwhelming majority of people making minimum wage were teenagers who live with their parents. Now that might be true in your limited experience, but when presented with the data, your hypothesis was resoundingly rejected.

Does your limited experience includes starting and operating your own business.? And if you don’t want to depend on the experience of those who run businesses just what do you think should be depended on? Tenured professors who have no or Word experience? Politicians looking for a vote? Disaffected employees jealous because there boss makes more than them. Or so-called researchers to know exactly what should be done because their solutions worked in every term paper they ever wrote?

There are people who firmly believe their imagination trumps everyone else’s real-world experience.😉

Why do people always invoke jealousy especially here? That doesn’t happen as much on the IIDB forums… I bet you think the United States is the greatest developed country with its high (in the .40s) gini coefficient compared to other nations.

No wonder why jealousy is prevalent. Yeah, those poor people who don’t have health insurance shouldn’t be jealousy; they do not deserve it.
