Should the 19 year old Florida school shooter be given the death penalty?

I voted no, because i just don’t think a 19 year old would shoot up a school without having serious mental issues. Otherwise it just doesn’t make any sense.

I think he should be kept away from society for the remainder of his life. But not necessarily in a normal prison.

66 votes and 64% say no and less than 20% each say yes or unsure.

The overwhelming majority is for no.

This is good news to me, because this is in line with what the Church teaches.

The Church is staunchly opposed to the death penalty in developed 1st world countries, for the most part, although she doesn’t outright condemn the use of the death penalty.

America is one of the few developed nations which still uses the outdated death penalty - let’s pray it is abolished soon.

One cannot claim to uphold a truly pro life platform while advocating capital punishment.

Pro life means to uphold life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death in all circumstances, opposing abortion, euthanasia, the death penalty, and other such practices of death.

Nope, the same law that allows people to buy guns freely in the 21st century…

If you’re going by US law, he’ll have a trial by jury. Nevertheless, I’m not supporting the death penalty.

According to God’s law it’s revenge. Catholicism doesn’t subscribe to “an eye for an eye” mentality.

It’s not revenge.

The killer is a danger to society … unlikely to be “reformed”, … and needs to be removed.

Incarceration is being removed from society. And offering the forgiveness of Jesus is our duty.

Not true. Incarcerated prisoners do routinely injure and/or kill guards, other prisoners, and civilians.

Without the option of the death penalty, there is no way of applying sanctions to the worst of the worst.

Right. Than Aquinas is a heretic.
Some situations are justifiable. And the law is made by the State.

So i dont think Capital Punishment is usually equal to murder! Yet, in societies which have the means to restrict a person guilty of cold blooded murder from committing more, then we are able to show them God’s forgiveness.

Then start with the world leaders and financiers who perpetrate endless war and suffering.

If he’s executed there’s no chance of escape, nor does society have to pay its tax dollars for him to be in jail, plus he could hurt guards or other prisoners. A prisoner who has a life sentence has nothing to lose and could kill another guy who’s in for 3 years, for example

The sin Jesus was talking about was the fact that they were doing wrong in applying the Law of Moses by only bringing the woman and not the man she committed adultery with, and He also knew the Pharisees were trying to trap Him, not doing justice. By no means did Jesus say you need to be immaculate in order to execute a criminal
