Ummm, are you certain about this? My understanding is that Baptism is efficacious.
I’ve heard that excuse. That was as much, if not more so, the Spanish State than the Church… at least in terms of the true underlining motivations.
I have pleaded with members of CAF to stop making excuses and trying to cover up abuses. It looks terrible on the outside when we do that. Don’t try and deny history, instead take ownership and don’t repeat past mistakes. If you talk to many members here they will tell you that all the forced conversions and the Inquisition were 100% the government and that the Church was just begging the government not to do itThe Church needs to take responsibility for its anti-Semitism leading to the deaths of millions of Jews
But when the Catholics are in a position of power, it make for extremely serious consequences. That hasn’t changed much over time, as we know from current problems. Not all Catholics act according to Catholic teachings and even commit faults. Really this is kind of obvious.
And when those in power act from the authority given to them by the Church, and in the name of the Church, it is more than an individual’s fault. Sorry. That’s more of an individual fault then the Church in its entirety.

You should read up on Croatia during world war two.Bearing False Witness by Rodney Stark is the book I read a section of which addressed the forced conversions as largely a myth.
And what happened at the massacre at Glina. You should read up on Croatia during world war two.
