I know that this might be a dumb question but what is a chaplet ?because they look like a rosary to me. How do I get a chaplet? What is the difference between the two?
The Rosary is actually a specific type of chaplet. So they are all chaplets… Just that the Chaplet of the Holy Virgin Mary is now most commonly referred to as the Rosary. They (chaplets) come in different shapes and format.

A Very well equipped Catholic! 😃

How would I get a wooden rosary? I like the feel of wooden beads.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.) i have one chaplet and other rosaries the one that looks like precious stones is my first rosary I got shortly after becoming a Catholic. The white one and the one closest to the chaplet i got at an abbey near me. The chaplet was given to me as a gift.

So finally did a picture of the three I mainly use… For the hypostatic order… The Holy Face of Christ Chaplet, the Holy Virgin Mary Chaplet (commonly called a rosary) and the Saint Joseph Chaplet…

Thank you!

I thought so too, and had to buy it. It is brass and the beads are glass.

Has anyone ever cleaned an antique Rosary with wooden beads? What did you use to clean the beads? I heard that you can use furniture polish…I bought an antique Rosary with wooden beads, and the chain is a double-link. According to my Rosary book, Rosaries were made with the double-link chain in the 1900’s, to prevent breakage. It also stated that this type of chain is almost indestructible. Your advice on cleaning the beads is most appreciated.

How badly do they need to be cleaned? I’d be inclined to leave them as they are. Anything you use on the beads could have a negative effect on the chain.

If they really have to be cleaned I’d probably go for a natural lemon oil based polish and q-tips. There is also murphy oil soap.

Thank you! A natural lemon oil base sounds like the best way to clean them. I need to clean them cause they are antique and have been used by someone else…

FYI, the nuns are a splinter group. I have no problem buying from them.
Just to be clear, splinter in this case means unapproved and unaffiliated with any Catholic Bishop or even the Carmelite Order. They are attached to a group of sedevacantist “priests”. So… that’s where your money is going…

I have that same rosary. Congratulations on your first rosary! That makes me really happy.

I deleted the post. I regret the suggestion. I made an honest disclosure and the rest is my business.

My Chaplet of the Blessed Sacrament I made myself.

@libbeylu: I think you should avoid any harsh chemicals. If I were you, I’d use a damp Q tip to clean the beads. You might want to find a professional if you think the Rosary needs a lot of work. A jeweler or crafter might be able to clean and restring the beads if needed. Good luck.

@Searching1: You did a wonderful job.

@Catholic361: I just bought a St. Thérèse chaplet. I’m awaiting delivery. I love the Little Flower.

@steph03: I have a pardon cross necklace. I love the message.

I too have this wooden rosary which is I think is vintage or maybe even antique as I think I’ve had this one for 50yrs now. The chain links are some type of soft metal, not sure what, but they are easily bent using some force and a pair of tweezers. (The medal in the top picture which the back of you can see, is not part of the rosary, but just a medal I added to it).
