M—I owe you an apology–I misread your first post in the other thread when you said
By the way, nothing more novel and NOT a requirement as the sign of peace, this is purely OPTIONAL in liturgical law. If I do give the peace sign, it is only to be charitable, and only to those NEXT to me, after which I quickly kneel and close my eyes, for the Agnus Dei (The “Lamb of God who takes,” etc.).

I did not remember you posting the underlined section. I just remembered the second part.

Optional for the congregation was the point of discussion, but if you do give it when instructed (albeit grudgingly) we actually agree.
