Could it be the Holy Father’s background and coming from Argentina
Why is it that every time the Pope says or does something that raises eyebrows, it is always because he’s from Argentina? I don’t remember the constant apologies for our German or Polish popes.

It could be that it is because the European influence around the world is not looked at with great affection, especially in Latin America.

We are a “universal Church” not a western European Church, and it seems to me, and others that I know, that many people who consider themselves “traditional” only look at the western European influences on the Church and deem them to be the only correct options.

True, but again, coming out in public is not a good way to make points with your boss.
Pope Francis has zero obligation to defend his decisions to anyone, and the dubia questions are written in a way that however he answers, someone, somewhere will have a problem with it.

The Pope is of Italian decent. Argentina has a strong European culture, particularly Italian and German. I don’t understand why people treat him as if he came from the Amazon jungle?

Um, maybe because he was born there and sees that the European influence wasn’t always a good one.

So my question was why does everyone make the excuse that “it’s because he’s from Argentina.”?

I don’t think it is an excuse, it is a reason for a different world view, one that is not based in the culture and morals of Western Europe.

But, the culture and morals of Western Europe were based on the Church founded by Jesus two thousand years ago. Sadly the Church in Europe is currently in decline. But the traditional European Church sent missionaries to the world. Many of them gladly gave their lived to bring the good news of salvation. Here in Europe we now receive missionaries from Africa and Asia to reevangelise . The Church is a family. The Church I attend has members
from Africa, Asia and many parts of Europe .

Technically the Church was founded on the culture and morals of 1st century Judaism with Roman and Greek influences…the “Western European culture” didn’t exist. The Orthodox church probably resembles the culture and morals of the Church founded by Jesus more but there would still be many differences.

While this is true, many of those same missionaries forced conversions and made natives assimilate to European culture, effectively killing off their traditions and mores.

I will say it again, the Church is universal, and universal does not mean uniform.

No it is not.
LG 22…The pope’s power of primacy over all, both pastors and faithful, remains whole and intact. In virtue of his office, that is as Vicar of Christ and pastor of the whole Church, the Roman Pontiff has full, supreme and universal power over the Church. And he is always free to exercise this power.

I remember frequent apologies for JP2 and BXVI based on their national origins.

Perhaps you did not notice the raised eyebrows because they came from the left instead of the right?

You made me chuckle,Mike. I must admit…
It can be hilarious sometimes,at least for me,others it makes some sense, but above all, what is very positive is the good disposition to try and understand him. That is so valuable. And much more logical to try and understand one person, than intend a Pope to understand each of us,billions.

Pope Francis has said very clearly early on that he did not like bishops to be traveling around all over. Bishop Schneider is bishop of a particular place and it is important that he serve the people of his assignment.

Seriously, Max… why? Just why?
[Pandora’s box cartoon]
How many times are you going to post this same cartoon, Dizzy? Not sure if it’s a violation of forum rules, but it’s really no different from copy-pasting a reply you’ve used before. It’s definitely not a contribution to the discussion. If you simply don’t like a thread but have no inspiration to comment susbtantially, why not just refrain from posting?

You might have noticed I have contributed to this thread, and I consider that cartoon a contribution as well. I asked Max a question that included the cartoon. I asked him why he was posting this potentially Pandora’s Box question. He answered, and I didn’t push the issue. I’m not sure where the rule violation would have occurred? I like to use pictures, memes, gifs, and emojis as a part of my responses. I use them frequently, but they rarely ever stand alone without some kind of question or discussion to go with them. There are a finite number, so you are likely to see them more than once.

Additionally, I think it has had its desired effect. As with all satirical cartoons (as with the story of pandora’s box itself) it’s a caution. You are welcome to ignore it if it bothers you.

Fr Z has also said, more than once, that Archbishop Vigano’s physical life is literally in danger… and often warns about the hateful and / or violent tendencies of “liberals”… while I enjoy many of his posts, there’s sometimes a tin foil hat conspiracy feel to that blog.
If you predicted something like Antifa to Americans a few years ago, they would have said “No, never happening in the US”.

As I said, I don’t know if it’s a rule violation. I just noticed that your first comment in this thread was simply the Pandora’s-box picture you have used before elsewhere. By posting just that, with no further comment, you seemed to be taking a repetitive approach to indicating your discontent with a thread. Of course you dislike me pointing this out, but I really believe you (or anyone) should enter a thread with a substantial, original comment, not a recycled post.
