Catholic League For Religious and Civil Rights said:

Irish singer Sinead O’Connor is warning Pope Benedict XVI not to come to Ireland, and if he does, she wants him shot. She warned on Twitter there will be a “f***in bloodbath” if the pope visits Ireland.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on her outburst:

Sinead O’Connor has a long history of Catholic bashing, so in one sense her latest foray is not unusual. What’s new, however, is her advocacy of violence. Given her precarious condition, it is not likely she could shoot straight, but her violent appeal may trigger others to act. That is the danger.

Apparently not to gin up buzz. Apparently she is mentally unstable and hurting. I pray she may find healing.
 
Mental Illness or abdication? Remember folks she’s a “Roman Catholic Priest” after all. lol Its sad that life has turned out this way for her. I hope she finds the healing and understanding necessary to find peace and prayerfully come back to the fold.

O’Connor is famous for her bald head, a few hit songs and ripping up a picture of Pope John Paul II on SNL. Now, she is inciting violence toward Pope Benedict XVI. I’d say she has had her 15 minutes.

Famous or not, it appears she is mentally ill and in need of prayers.
 
I run into people with this kind of extreme hatred towards the church sometimes… usually treating them with dignity, calm and love goes a long way towards making them reconsider… meeting anger with anger just fuels the fire.

I don’t think anyone has reacted with anger. She needs help, that is obvious.

Since O’Connor has been angry at the Church for such a long time (she tore up JPII’s picture back in 1992), I doubt she is going to reconsider anything at this late date. She needs help. I pray she gets it.

Here’s an excerpt from an old article in the New York Times detailing O’Connor’s complaints against the Church.

“…last week, O’Connor released an open letter, linking her being abused as a child to “the history of my people” and charging, “The Catholic church has controlled us by controlling education, through their teachings on sexuality, marriage, birth control and abortion, and most spectacularly through the lies they taught us with their history books.” The letter concluded, “My story is the story of countless millions of children whose families and nations were torn apart for money in the name of Jesus Christ.” Proselytizing as imperialism as child abuse – quite a leap.”…

So. Why is she not arrested for making ‘Terrorist Threats’ like all us regular folks would be?? Ahem?

Yeah, I remember her, from back in the day. Jeepers, is she still around?
 
She’s such a talented singer and artist. I was (am still? hmmmm…) a huge fan of her music. Though I admit some of the lyrics are far too politically charged for my taste. But the music is good and her voice is amazing. I saw her live at Lilith Fair back in the late 90’s, and she was spectacular.

But like nearly all musicians, I tune out their politics completely. There are a lot of musicians that make (well, mostly have made, since I’m not hearing much lately I like) music I like, yet completely irritate me politically. When musicians and other entertainers demonstrate some profiency in being a leader (as in a leader of people, not just ideas), I’ll start to take it seriously.
 
This topic is about as interesting as watching beige paint dry. This story is from April of 2010.
