3 hours and 22 minutes in Senator Mike Lee read some quotes about political neutrality, and made some allegation of trade policies, and noted he has not seen the “supression of high profile liberal commentators.” He asked if they had ever censored President Obama or a democratic presidential candidate and a few other parties.
Zuckerberg noted that he would get to the senator a list, but the senator said that he wanted a name mentioned immediately. Jack told him that they do not have an understanding of the political ideology of each account. He did mention that there have been actions taken on tweets from 2 democratic members of the house, and promised to provide the names later. Sundar mentioned turning off ads from “Priorities USA” that they had made in the interest of Biden’s campaign, that they’ve had problems with the wording of ads from “Socialist Review”, a left leaning publication, said that they have taken down ads from both campaigns for showing violence, and said they he could provide more examples.
Mark and Jack both emphasized an application of their policy without intentional bias of political ideology. Mike Lee stated that their inability to name someone was evidence of bias.
Ron Johnson (3 hours 36 minutes) was asking them about their “Chan boards” and wanted to know what the political leanings were of the people that participated in those. Sundar and Jack said they don’t know the political leanings of their employees. Mark said he would guess there are more left leaning than right, but he doesn’t know.
