Of course he talked about Jesus with the other Apostles. But Paul saw Jesus face to face (so to speak)
He saw him but didn’t ate and drink with him like the other 11 Apostle.
That is what I said, "Paul started preaching in Damascus, then went to Arabia, then back to Damascus before going to Jerusalem to meet with Peter.
No disagreement there.
Someone insinuated that Paul got his ministry and knowledge of Christ Jesus from Peter when he went to Jerusalem. Obviously, Paul had been preaching for years before even meeting Peter.
He was in Damascus for three years before seeing Peter. He proclaimed the Good News to the Gentiles. I don’t think Paul himself know the detailed life of Jesus Christ. He knew he was the promised Messiah spoken through the prophets.
I do think when Paul went to Corinthian and address the Corinthians about Breaking of Bread, he probably received that from the Apostles rather than Jesus Christ. The Apostles was with Jesus when he break the bread. Paul wasn’t there.
What else? Jesus Christ, of course. What do we Christians spend most of our time doing and talking about?
Exactly, Paul would probably ask Peter many questions concerning Jesus so he would preach better.
I have no problem with that. It is the new traditions that have come about from people who lived hundreds to thousands of years later that are not consistent with Scripture. For instance, would I go to hell simply because no one ever said to me “Mary never had any other children”?
Mary never had any children is not a new doctrine. It was commonly believed. The Gospel made no mention of it because Mary was still alive at the time. There was no need of that. I believe St. Luke probably received the story about the birth of Jesus Christ from Mary herself since there where no other Apostles present on the birth of Jesus. Joseph was dead at the time.
Well, I don’t think you would go to hell. I think that its out of ignorance some Christians do not know that Mary remain a virgin. The belief that Mary had other children after the birth of Jesus is new. That didn’t came about until after the Reformation. I believe the Reformer Leaders of Protestantism believed that Mary remain a virgin. It was developed later on that Protestant reject it.
They failed to look at the original context of the Scripture. There is no word for cousin in Hebrew or Aramaic. The Gospel writters wrote brother and sister in his place.
Second if you read Luke 2:41-52, Jesus, Mary and Joseph went to the temple.
Luke 2:41-52 said:
41 And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the solemn day of the pasch, 42 And when he was twelve years old, they going up into Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast, 43 And having fulfilled the days, when they returned, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not. 44 And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day’s journey, and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance. 45 And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him.
46 And** it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing them, and asking them questions**. 47 And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers. 48 And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. 49 And he said to them: How is it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father’s business? 50 And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart. 52 And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and age, and grace with God and men.
If Mary and Joseph had other children, they would be mentioned. It would be against the Mosaic Law if they left behind a younger child in the care of someone else. When Jesus was crucified, he gave his mother to John, and his mother to John. If he had other siblings, he would not given John his mother. If the claim that James is the brother of Jesus is true, he would be the one taking care of his mother. This is clearly not the case here. James is Jesus’ cousin or kinsman.
I tell you, Ginger2, our Catholic Church does not make up new doctrine. These beliefs have been part of Divine Revelation which has been preserved by the Church for over 2,000 yrs.
And no, you would not go to hell. God would make a judgement of that. Not us.
