Some American Catholics really don’t like Pope Francis. Here’s why

What I know is that I am a convert to Catholicism around 2002. I would never have done that if this man had been the pope at the time. I guess that is all I should say.😦
This is a devastating time for some traditionalists, including some good friends and my wife. :(.

There have been many that have been chosen by the Holy Spirit who have gone the wrong way. Even with good intentions. Popes included.

It is totally irrelevant to bring up how holy Popes have been over the last 150 years. That has nothing to do with THIS POPE.

I am also asking for help and I have received none. I have faith that the Holy Spirit will separate the wheat from the weeds. One of the things we can learn from scripture is there is always a Judas among us.

I am not a perfect person and I need mercy daily. I struggle with a lot of things. Trust that.

I am just very concerned about all of these things. I cannot believe you are not concerned at all.
I’m with you, CatholicKnight. I, too, have asked for help and received none. So, I understand completely where you are coming from. Others who have not experienced what we are going through can not be of much if any assistance to us because they cannot comprehend our dilemma.

There is an unwarranted fear in the thought that “there have been bad Popes before”. If you go back to the times of the anti-popes, you see they were not charactised as such by their teachings or developments of doctrine. They were charactarised by their lifestyles and collusion with sin. They existed within a sick institution of either secrecy and or openly in bed with the worldly powers.

If you look at the life and history of this Pope, he is open and blameless and fully understands through St Ignatius, about the dangers of secrecy and hiddenness. The way he threw open the doors of the Curia publically revealing the diseases that can flourish behind closed doors, that all goes against what the devil wants for his workspace.

Our man Cardinal Pell related that it is obvious being in the close vicinity of Pope Francis that he is a holy man. He exudes holiness that can’t be feigned.

It angers me when this reference to previous bad popes is made as though a Pope can teach error and it is up to us to decipher Church teaching in that way.

You know well that I do not have the freedom here to answer you as I would like. If I do, I will either get suspended or banned.

Hello Lormar -

What kind of help are you looking for?

What is your dilemma?

Both Lomar and Catholic Knight3… would you consider doing the spiritual exercises with a spiritual director? The ‘Retreat in Daily Life’ (or 19th Annotation Retreats) are a wonderful door into the Ignatian mind of Pope Francis. This link is a US one and I don’t know where you are situated. They are all over. Don’t be daunted by cost. They make the suggestion but if you are not financially able to meet it, there is no pressure to pay the full cost. I have done the retreat as well as a weeks silent retreat and regular weekly contemplation days. I highly recommend that road and you both seem to be aching for something to help in this unusual time in the life of the Church.
