***DD just got home from guitar lessons, and her teacher would like her to pick a slow song, and a faster pace song for her next concert/recital. She picked Sleepwalk…I love this song…it’s relaxing for a change. (far cry from Bullet for my Valentine)

What do you think about that slow song? Or she said maybe Eric Clapton’s Wonderful Tonight…

I like Sleepwalk, has my vote.***
Hope this helps: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fKxz2cuLnY&feature=related .Also, check out Brian Selzer,Joe Satriani’s and Leo Kotke with Chet Atkins. These are differant variations on sleepwalk.Rocky.

***This is dd in her first concert…I forgot that there are pics on her teacher’s website, from the concerts. (this was before we had a working camera ) That’s her teacher with the hat on. 😃 He is awesome, such a great guy, and so good with the kids.

This should give you some idea, Nom…this is the dean guitar I describe above.***
***I had a pic of my dd playing at one of her concerts added with this post…sorry, it is not showing or was deleted. Anyways…I’ll have to snap a pic of it later. Thank you for your opinions, and suggestions everyone…think she’s got a lot to go on, now. 🙂 ***

If your girl really want to hear amazing guitar bridges in songs, listen to Al Stewart’s works. Actually, you can find covers for his instrumental “Denise at 16” on youtube. He also wrote my favorite guitar solo ever, in the middle of a song called “Nostradamus”. Yes, THAT Nostradamus. Also on youtube. Anyway, I hope she enjoys them. Most of his songs are extremely difficult, so musicians say. But every one of his cd’s contain amazing guitar work. Rob 🙂
Oops! The Nostradamus guitar solo may not be there. Try “On the Border” from “Year of the Cat”. I know that’s there.

Year of the Cat…I NEVER would have thought of that…lol
Thank you, Rob for these suggestions.

Being a huge Deadliest Catch fan, I think your dd needs to learn Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead or Alive! That is a rockin solo!

***Just wondering, especially for those of you who play guitar…any ideas as to good songs for a 12 yr old to learn, with great solos?

My dd is really developing as a guitarist…so proud of her. 🙂 She is trying to tackle Freebird, right now, but it’s pretty hard, she said. She’s got some parts down, but just curious if you all might have any ideas as to songs that have decent solos (challenging) that don’t have bad words/lyrics throughout? She loves Holiday by Greenday, but there are some interesting lyrics throughout…she needs to come up with a new one for her next concert, which is rolling around in a few weeks. (her teacher does the singing)

She loves Bullet for My Valentine, but again…not appropriate – I do let her listen to these songs…if the words are censored. (swear words) She listens for the guitar solos.

So…please, we could use your help! I told her Journey, but she told me it’s too ‘old school.’ 😊😊

Thank you in advance for your replies…***
o my, she is another ‘bullet for my valentine’ fan!..lol…yeah, i havent actually listened to any of there stuff but they remind me of an emo band!
but for…good guitar solos!! well…my favourite rock bands often play guitar!!
i love
  • lifehouse - ‘hanging by a moment’ and ‘everything.’
  • the fray - ‘you found me’ and ‘saving a life’
