I’d say it’s not just excessive force that’s the issues, but whether the punishment is appropriate to what actually happened. It’s unfortunately not uncommon for some parents to spank because the child is upsetting or frustrating them, which may not indicate that the child did something wrong.It is not a sin to spank your children as long as excessive force is not used.
