We should all ignore the fear peddlers regarding 2012. They are making money selling this stuff. Remember Y2K? No? Thats because *nothing *happened!
You must have missed my post (#7)This is an easy one for me. I believe in the Bible.
Matt 24:36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven nor the Son, but the Father alone.
The Mayans predicted change not doomsday. Sensationalistic media is the culprit.
Happy 2012 everone but just in case I will be sure not to slack at the confessional. :whacky:
To add to that, Jesus promised to never leave us.These things come around every few years or so. I believe, they’re mainly the result of a lack of God in people’s lives (if they don’t believe in Him, then they’re going to believe in something). Sometimes these theories have scientific backing (Y2K, or the theories on climate change) and sometimes they are purely prophetic (like this 2012 thing, or back last April when the world was also supposed to end).
The key here is to recognize that the fear is coming from Satan, alone. Do not study these theories too much and do not fall victim to their “scientific” justifications… that is Satan’s trap. Don’t forget that science is how we (as a society) have reasoned that the earth’s population needs to be reduced and that a baby’s breath is a toxic chemical!
I saw a cartoon about that the other day. Bizarro, I think, where one Mayan is holding a calendar and says, “I only had enough room to go up to 2012.” Another Mayan responds, “Ha! That’ll freak somebody out someday.”Hey, here’s a thought. Maybe the Mayans just ran out of room on that circular thingy. It could happen! Then someone interprets the out of room on the circular thingy as THE END.![]()
Yes,okay. You get the credit for being the first one to post Matthew. Does it bother you that I agree? I hope not.You must have missed my post (#7)![]()
I agree, but I heard that it took quite a lot of programming fixes to make Y2k a non event. We should all ignore the fear peddlers regarding 2012. They are making money selling this stuff. Remember Y2K? No? Thats because *nothing *happened!
Bee-yoot-i-ful!Our work is to remain faithful through it all. Part of that is daring to be serene in our trust in God.
Exactly. We ought not get hysterical about the possibility of disasters, but rather make prudent plans in the knowledge that something will probably happen at some point. All of history is full of nasty things happening. We shouldn’t become complacent that it can’t be us, or that we will not be asked to help someone who is caught as a victim. Even being able to be self-sufficient for a few days could greatly reduce the burden on those trying to supply help for everyone who needs it. The more people who are prepared for a disaster, the better it will go for those who weren’t.I agree, but I heard that it took quite a lot of programming fixes to make Y2k a non event.
I think the one good thing that resulted from the Y2k scenario was that many people thought seriously about what emergency supplies they had on hand and – perhaps for the first time – got serious about following the usual advice from the Red Cross, etc. (Doesn’t hurt to have the right stuff to be able to keep one’s family functioning in a power outage, for example. And to be able to tell your kids that. )![]()
Even though I won’t propagate (most of) it…I welcome it. I hope it will wake up some of these people who walk around not living as Christ and the Church has taught us to live. I’m sure some of it will get people talking which opens the door for me to talk to them about the true prophecies that were given to us by God. These are people that I wouldn’t normally have that initial window of opportunity to talk religion to.I have a feeling that we’re going to be hearing quite a lot about the convergence of “Doomsday Prophecies” over the next few months (Mayans, I-Ching, Web Bot Project, etc.) that predict major disaster(s) sometime in 2012.
As fellow Catholics, what, in your opinion, do we need to do to “armor up” our minds and spirits so we don’t drift into negative thinking when we’re confronted by this kind of news?
Good observation. I was just thinking a bit ago that we are here – after all – to help each other out. With that in mind, anytime is a good time to make sure we have our emergency supplies in place–not just when disaster talk is in the air.Exactly. We ought not get hysterical about the possibility of disasters, but rather make prudent plans in the knowledge that something will probably happen at some point. A heavy dose of critical thinking!Hi all!
First off, Happy New Year to you all and wishing you many blessings in 2012!

In short, how best to stay positive about the future so we can reassure our families (especially children who will likely hear about these things)?
