I’m not challenging the existence of the entire forum. There are many appropriate topics to discuss on a public forum such as this. However, I very strongly believe that this particular topic is not one of them. Exorcism and deliverance ministry is a very particular ministry in the Church, requiring very specific, very detailed, training. Giving advice in this area, though well-meaning, can lead to a great deal of confusion if the advice-giver is not schooled in the discipline. To be perfectly blunt, this is not a game. Now, this is not to say that we treat this ministry like Gnosticism. We don’t keep secrets in the Church. But, there are certain areas where someone trained in the field ought to be the guide. This is most certainly one of those areas.
A few posts up, I wrote an analogy of medicine. It’s the same principle. Let’s say I’m feeling sick, and a friend gives me some pills that her physician gave to her, and says, “Hey, these worked for me. Why don’t you try them?” Unbeknownst to her, I have an allergy to the pills she gave me, they are for a different condition than what I have, and they counteract a prescription that I’m already on (which my doctor prescribed). In short, my friend isn’t a doctor, and has no background in medicine. Her advice, far from being helpful, is actually detrimental.
I’ll say what I said above…Eucharist, Confession, use of sacramentals, and prayer. These are the normal remedies for spiritual ills. But, as I’m not the OP’s pastor, and thus not his or her primary care physician in the spiritual life, I am not qualified to give advice as to how he or she should treat this situation. And neither is anyone else, short of his or her pastor. Hence my advice above…speak with your pastor.
I cannot overstate how serious this is…DO NOT MESS AROUND IN THIS AREA WITHOUT PROPER TRAINING.
Fr. David or Don Ruggero…am I off base here? As always, I’m open to correction.
