But why on earth would you settle for a teacher you know is inferior when the best of the best are right here in the Catholic Church waiting for you??? :ehh:
To tell you the truth I deleted my original response to your question. I knew that if I posted that response I would probably be asked to leave this site.
To put it mildly, I lost a lot of trust in the priesthood with all the recent scandals in the church. I also know personally more than one priest whose orientation is questionable.
I don’t mean to offend anyone reading this, but I am speaking sincerely.

You’re kidding Right?
In the altar call the person is not worshipping the minister.
And the man is not worshipping his wife.
You were kidding, I hope.
You’re kidding, right?

When kneeling in front of a statue at church, the petitioner (one who prays) is focusing on his or her prayer to God, regardless of who the statue is of.

The point is, and I think you missed it, don’t mistake outside signs of devotional use for false idol worship.

You know, like those televangelists who preach the Gospel of Wealth and Health to those who send in their donations.

I believe in the trinity and I can prove it using the biblical canon.
Would you, please?

I would be very interested to see this! :yup:

I’m not being facetious, and this is no trick or trap.

Thanks in advance.

Are you suggesting that the personal sin of the man takes away from the authority of the office he holds?

My experience in public education has lead me to believe that teachers are more in number (real and in proportion) with abusers and molesters than Catholic, Protestant and Jewish clergy.

At three different California public school districts, part of my job was to quietly move out of our district any one that a parent or child complained about. Why? It would cost our districts too much money if we fought it or if it came to light.

Many times the parents agreed to such an arrangement with the Superintendent and the Board. Pretty sick, huh, but welcome to planet earth where people REGARDLESS of their vocation, job or background are and can be very evil and cruel.

Watch out for that Youth Minister in your group. Or that Scout leader or parent or uncle of one of the kids. It could be and will be anybody, Newbie.

To assume that a priest destroyed your Christian faith shows me how shallow and misplaced that faith was to begin with.

Do you know what it means when the pope speaks
ex cathadra?
Check it out and get back to me
Literally “from the chair”, a theological term which signifies authoritative teaching and is more particularly applied to the definitions given by the Roman pontiff. Originally the name of the seat occupied by a professor or a bishop, cathedra was used later on to denote the magisterium, or teaching authority. The phrase ex cathedra occurs in the writings of the medieval theologians, and more frequently in the discussions which arose after the Reformation in regard to the papal prerogatives. But its present meaning was formally determined by the Vatican Council, Sess. IV, Const. de Ecclesiâ Christi, c. iv: "We teach and define that it is a dogma Divinely revealed that the Roman pontiff when he speaks ex cathedra, that is when in discharge of the office of pastor and doctor of all Christians, by virtue of his supreme Apostolic authority, he defines a doctrine regarding faith or morals to be held by the universal Church, by the Divine assistance promised to him in Blessed Peter, is possessed of that infallibility with which the Divine Redeemer willed that his Church should be endowed in defining doctrine regarding faith or morals, and that therefore such definitions of the Roman pontiff are of themselves and not from the consent of the Church irreformable

Yes, you can.
God, because of His generous nature, gives us Mary and the Communion of Saints as a gift. It’s a wonderful gift, but not a requirement that we make use of the gift.
ok you use that gift
I choose not to.

“Ex cathedra” is latin for “from the chair.”

This phrase is from the First Vatican Council’s statement on Infallibility, 18 July 1870, and pertains to when the pope “defines a doctrine regarding faith or morals to be held by the Universal Church [that’s ALL christians].”

There have only been TWO ‘ex cathedra’ pronoucements in the 1900+ year history of the Church: the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption of Mary.

Our own government has an official who speaks ‘ex cathedra:’ the President when he writes an Executive Pardon or goes to war without the consent of Congress, or does any number of things permitted to him by custom (defined by the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Constitution) or by statute from Congress.

Monarchs speak ‘ex cathedra.’

Non-denominational ministers speak ‘ex cathedra’ when they tell you what a passage means or what you should believe as a christian in good standing with the Lord or with his or her “church.”

What’s the problem here, Newbie??

This is not a simple answer as you already know. It requires many various biblical references and would take some time for me to compile. But I will do it. I will start with JN1:1 which proves Jesus was not a created being but everlasting and also God. Jehova Witness changed their version of this verse to corrupt the idea of the trinity. Please allow me some time for the rest of my answer

Exactly - truth is truth regardless of the character of the person teaching it. Peter denied Christ, Paul persecuted his followers. They were precisely the same sinful people after they repented (although they didn’t commit those same sins again) - does that mean that when they said ‘Christ is Lord’ it was less true???

A lot of people probably lost faith in the Apostles after Judas betrayed Jesus.

A lot of people probably lost faith in evangelical Christianity after the recent scandal when a popular minister confessed to having a relationship with a male prostitute and to using illicit drugs.

I am a christian. No priest destoyed my faith in Jesus. But a few priests destroyed my faith in priests!
Why? would a few bad teachers (heck, we’ve all had bad teachers, I know I had more than a few of 'em) destroy your faith in teachers in general? Or a few bad parents (again we all know a few) destroy your faith in all parents?
