Various versions and editions of the Douay-Rheims Bible (a classic Catholic Bible) were printed in the United States up until 1947. You might have a valuable bible copy there Ralphy - you should open it and read the publishers information and tell us what version it is.

James
Likely versions you have … when they were published … considered official or unofficial…

The Westminster Version of the Sacred Scriptures (1935). unofficial
The New Testament … with Explanatory Notes (1954). unofficial
The Confraternity Version of the New Testament (1941).

Ralphy: answer this one question: What do you think Jesus meant when He gave the disciples the power to “RETAIN” sin?

Oh but you are forgetting about our Dear Blessed Mother Mary, she is one of God’s greatest gifts to us.
She followed Jesus her entire life, God choose her, the Holy Spirit overshadowed her and Jesus sprang to life in her. Those men who compiled all the Books of the Bible orginally, they were taught of the men who walked with the Lord and knew His Blessed Mother.
The blessed mother is barely mentioned in the Bible. What mother doesn’t follow their own sons their entire lives?

You calling Jesus a sexist?

michel
If Jesus is God, and God won’t allow women to be priests, then yes, by not permitting women to perform the same job as a man, then that is a discriminatory and sexist practice.

It’s a no brainier.

No, you barely know where to find her in the Bible is all, she is mentioned or prefigured all through it, from Gensis to the last book!! She is THE Woman.

It’s not a job, its a vocation and they are in Persona Christi, the Person of Christ/
Women can be more like the Blessed Mother. She wasn’t a Priest and you didn’t hear her complaining about it did you, or Mary Magdelene? Or any of the other women who loved Him and followed Him and all His teachings.

So now, what are you going to do with your new found TRUTH?

Love and prayers,
I reject it, so I guess I’m going to hell. 😦

Your scriptures presented. I am very familiar with those scriptures.

Assuming they are the inspired word of God () where in those verses does it say, ’ Every human being must see a properly ordained priest, in my Church, in order to receive forgiveness for mortal sins.’

It doesn’t.

This is probably exactly why Jesus left us a Church instead of a Bible, why don’t you try to realize this truth? The Bible was written by the Church for the Church.

All good questions.
You seem to know a lot about scripture … so I need you to help me understand.
Why DID Jesus give men the power to forgive sins? … and the authority to decide whether or not to use that power?

What is ‘your take’ on this scripture?

John 20:21-23
[21] Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.”
[22] And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
[23] If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

michel
Assuming that the Bible is the inspired word of the creator of the universe and this creator, could only create a system of forgiveness that involved a blood sacrifice of himself, in human form, I shall answer.

Where does it say:

" Man must see one of my priests to receive my forgiveness for all mortal sins. For venial sins, man may pray to me directly, or eat my flesh, that used to be bread, but was turned into flesh, by the summoning of the Holy Spirit, by one of my properly ordained priests, to be forgiven. If man shall eat food one hour before receiving my flesh, he shall be committing a sin’

It does not. Mans interpretation of these scriptures created confession.

OMG - then you have not read the bible with spiritual discernment - the bible lives and breathes God’s relationship with Humanity through the new Adam (Jesus) and the new Eve (Mary) literally from Genesis to the Book of Revelation.

Mary is prefigured all through the OT. She is:
The Woman of Genesis Gen 3:15
Daughter of Zion
Queen Mother
The morning rising in Song 6:9
clothed with the sun" (Rev 12:1).

Mary is the “mother”, pregnant and giving birth to a son, though remaining a virgin, according to the prophecies of Genesis 3:15, Isaiah 7:14, Micah 5:1-2; and the woman “Mother of the Lord” or “Mother of Jesus”, as she is called eleven times in the New Testament; she is the “mother” of mankind, represented by St. John on Calvary (Jn 19:25-27).

If you want your faith back - read this article and then re-read the bible - at least in the areas discussed here. Mary will make you a better man and a son of God in the image after her own Son.

MARY IN SCRIPTURE: From “Back to Christian Basics”

We MUST get people reading the bible through an apostolic and universal perspective. People are missing the majority of what the bible is saying.

No, wrong again, the inspired Word of God is Jesus Himself, who is present in all of His Sacraments that He instituted. The Church hands on all of His teachings, the Church didn’t write down every single thing that Jesus did in the Bible, even in the last sentance of St. John’s Gospel it says this…
There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.

white men?
Don’t you realize that the church started in Jerusalem.
It was the councils in Africa that gave us the new testament canon… in the 4th century.

myopic?
In the words of Quatto … “open your miiiiind”

WHO created all those cannons, dogmas, encyclicals…

Africans or Middle Easterners or Europeans?

All of the above and others who were inspired by the Holy Spirit, given by God, handed on Jesus’ teachings.

We are the Universal Church, we come from all walks of life, personally I am decendant of Europeans, but I never wrote any of those, but I’ve read quite a lot of them.

Suuuuuuuuure she is, that’s why it took until 1950 to authorize her assumption in the record books of hisotry.

Those things were already universally believed, it just took that long before it was declared Dogma, it was already doctrine (believed by the universal Church), the Holy Spirit clarifies things pretty well, He leads to ALL Truth, by God revealing.

Jesus already knew that. It just takes us humans a little longer to understand everything, it even mentions in the Bible how sometimes the Apostles didn’t understand everything, even with Jesus right there teaching them, they had to clear their head of what they already believed before they were able to understand it all.

It’s pretty simple really, just clear your head of your preconceived notions and beliefs and listen to the vast knowledge and experience of His Church, the Holy Spirit won’t lead you wrong. (then you won’t have to go to hell as you already said you would.)😃

wow … God is sexist … why oh why did he create women at all?
I mean … if they can’t be priests … what’s the point of existing?

I have a Catholic friend of mine that also would like to see women ordained (it’ll never happen).
I asked her … would you rather be a priest or a saint? She stuttered.

c’moooon … I’ll take ‘saint’ any day … there are millions of ways to serve other than by being ordained.

How on earth did they ever get women to join this new crazy religion in the first century?

I was once a member of this great Church of which you speak.

If I am wrong, and God does exist, my entry into Hell, will only be carrying out his will. For God will be judge and it is God who will sentence me. It is Gods will that I will call Hell my home for infinite.

I will experience an eternity of joy knowing that I am fulfilling Gods will.
