Hi, OneNow,
Great post!
Imagine, ââŚaccording to oneâs worksâŚâ and that is not the Works of the Law - but what an individual actually does to demonstrate their belief in Christ and thus identifying the illusion of OSAS.
It will be later pointed out that via a so-called âproof textâ that just belief is all that is necessary. The snag comes in - as it always does - in looking at the context in which the quote was lifted. So, while we must hear the Word of God (as v 24 says) we can not just stop there (as v 28-29 says).
John 5: 24 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not come to condemnation, but has passed from death to life. 25Amen, amen, I say to you, the hour is coming and is now here when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.p 26For just as the Father has life in himself, so also he gave to his Son the possession of life in himself.q 27And he gave him power to exercise judgment, because he is the Son of Man. 28 Do not be amazed at this, because the hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voices 29and will come out, those ***who have done good deeds ***to the resurrection of life, but those who have done wicked deeds to the resurrection of condemnation.
As I see it, OSAS is simply toxic to anyone who follows it. Look at the numerous examples of those who get their ârewardâ first ⌠but then do not perform. By analogy, there were many banks and bank executives who came up short when the money had to be produced to satisfy depositors and creditors. The Congress (with our money) bailed these financial institutions out (âtoo-big-to-failâ was the tune to sing) and they did not fail. But, look - all of these bonuses were paid out to these most undersrving of individuals⌠who did worse than nothing to keep their bank afloat (some had been drilling holes in the floor and filling it with fraud enhanced housing loans - and when those bubbles broke, the water just poured in). These banks thought they too were saved ⌠and look what happened.
This should not come as any surprise - truly, it is just classic human nature. Once paid, there is no need to work. If we are saved with the âSinnerâs Prayerâ and an âAltar Callâ then the 25th Chapter of Matthew is meaningless. The five foolish virgins, for example, should have been dancing outside the locked door singing the OSAS tune so the door would be opened for them. But, you know ⌠that just didnât happen.
God bless

Indeed He is! Romans 2: 5-8 God will repay each man according to his works. 2Cor. 5: 10, recompense accordâs to what we do in body. 2Cor11: 15, there end will correspond to their deeds. 1Peter1: 17, God judges impartially according to oneâs works. Rev 20: 12-13dead judged according to deeds.
Assurance of salvation
Matt. 7: 21, not all who say Lord,Lord, will be saved only those that do the will of the Father. Matt. 24: 13, those who perserve to the end will be saved. Romans 11:22,remain in His kindness or you will be cut off. Phil. 2: 12,work out your salvation in fear and trembling. 1cor.9: 27,drive the body for fear of being disqualified. 1Cor 10: 11-12, those thinking they are secure may fall. Gal 5: 4, separated from Christ you fall from grace. Heb 6:4-6, describe sharers in the Holy Spirit who fall away. Heb 10: 26-27, if sin after receiving truth judgment remains.
