There are people. There are stories. The people think they shape the stories, but the reverse is often closer to the truth.
(name removed by moderator), this is very accurate. And it is a far worthier pursuit for consideration than CH’s fantasy. Thanks for providing it.

The definition of a fantasy is an irrational belief unsubstantiated by evidence. There is ample evidence that Bacon was the first scientist to apply the scientific method. Please either refute the evidence or admit that you have none and politely slide into your own accusation.

It is inconvenient for you, and it is strange because it harkens to a time when the Pope had civil authority beyond the walls of the Vatican. But it is true and any encyclopedia will tell you so.
Also the founding fathers of America by and large were Protestant and a fair few of them were ex-members of the British Army.
Non sequitur. The veterancy and religion of General Washington (who carried with him an image of the Blessed Virgin) and of his army is not relevant to the question of the origin of the stormtroopers who built the British Empire.

I guess that Cat Herder intends us to understand that through all the history of Man all of the non-Europeans who lived on other continents were actually Catholic. Otherwise, how could the Chinese have contributed their immense store of knowledge, as well as other Asian cultures. And those Mayans, and other pre Christians: What do they think they were doing, usurping the Church’s prerogative to science? Lord, look at Alexandria! The utter presumption!!! God help all of them!
Not to mention all those pagan astronomers and physicians who learned to “observe” natural phenomena and charted the movements of the starts and planets…and those pagan “physicians” that learned from trial and error…“experiments” on what plants had the best medicinal properties.

Not to mention the role of those Muslims who excelled in science and mathematics when Christian Europe was concerned about what demons were causing what illness.
Both of you are engaging in misdirection. What I have put forward is that Fr. Bacon was the first scientist to employ the scientific method. Neither of you challenge that, instead you want to talk about those who came before.

Well, the USA landed on the moon. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the Soviets egging us on. But that doesn’t mean the Soviets rather than the USA landed on the moon.

You would have to change your position. There are plenty of Catholics who are ignorant of the patrimony of Western civilization and of the Church’s role therein. You are one of many, sadly.

What does any of that have to do with the Dissolusion of the Monasteries, or for that matter, Roger Bacon?

Look CH, there is much in what you say that is accurate. But as for context and proportion you have put your foot into it all the way through. You will come to see that, and will profit tremendously by it. You are doing just fine; just listen to to others a bit and think. Keep up the good work!

I brought those up only to show that attributing credit for Bacon’s work to England rather than the Church is ridiculous.

I appreciate your concern but you have no evidence to disprove my premise.

This is just the tip of the iceberg!

Everyone should watch this video, then spend a good fifteen minutes verifying the claims to resolve any doubts.

It would be an enlightening experience to say the least!
Yes, I watched it in its entirety. It continues to confirm why I left the Church 46 years ago and have been increasingly happy about the decision ever since, despite being at that time a very well catechized, devoted, and proselytizing RC. Thank you. But you too can find a way from belief; just greatly increase your efforts in the direction you are going. Perhaps you will join St. Thomas Aquinas in his realization. I do admire your knowledge of chapter and verse!

Yes, I watched it in its entirety.
And then you wrote it off as propaganda without bothering to evaluate the claims, including the one about the scientific method which is the topic at hand.

I never said the Founding Fathers were Catholic.* You are reading that into what I have said in an effort to discredit my argument by ascribing an imagined ignorance of history to me.

Please put away the straw man.

And then you wrote it off as propaganda without bothering to evaluate the claims, including the one about the scientific method which is the topic at hand.
Jeeez, CH, I see that you are a convert. Sorry; now I see why you “protest too much.” Like I said, take it to the extreme. Bon chance.

But I didn’t write it of as propaganda. I perceived it as erroneous in part compared to my experience and study these last 46 years, particularly in its fundamentals and portrayal of Catholic history. That’s my perception, and it is what it is. I highly recommend you exert great effort in complying to your own view as a way out of it.

Love your Quote from Mahatma. Thanks.

They said the king was a tyrant who stuck soldiers in their houses to make sure they behaved. Sounds like Gestapo tactics to me. The American Revolution is a blemish on Britain’s history like slavery is to the USA. Let’s get over it and get back on topic, please.
You are ignorant most certainly of British history and badly so.
You have yet to deal with the universal academic acknowledgement of Roger Bacon as the father of the scientific method.

“First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.” – Gandhi

Then tell us who invented the scientific method and what institution sponsored that person’s work.

Cat Herder,
By your logic, the Catholic church is also responsible for promoting abortion
Sr. Quinn is a Catholic Nun who espouses Pro- Abortion Views
She is a Nunn and sponsored by the Church (i.e. Bacon)
ergo, the Church should get full credit for her work

OR, you could see reality, that both Bacon and Quinn are Catholics who have expressed their views.

As I said before, you can’t only let the Church get full credit for ‘the Good Stuff’ Catholics have done.

Who invented Socratic philosophy and what institution sponsored the work?

Who landed on the moon and what institution sponsored the work?

If your answers are different from the above, justify your double standard.

Demonstrate that any of those espousing Quinn’s views have papal approval.

Bacon did.
